McGahan to Be Honored by Rick Winterson
T
here’s a Reception at the Seaport Hotel ne x t T hu r s d a y evening, October 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. The evening’s key event will be the presentation to John McGahan of the 2023 Martin J. Walsh Leadership in Recovery Award. John McGahan, a resident of South Boston, is the President of the Gavin Foundation and a noted leader in recovery efforts all over South Boston, Greater Boston, and eastern Massachusetts. they were in recovery. That was 60 years ago in 1963; Gavin’s approach turned out to be very effective. Under John McGahan’s guidance, the Gavin House is still active as a home for recovery, while the Gavin Foundation has greatly expanded its efforts to other locations. Two facts will illustrate the Gavin Foundation’s notable accomplishments: It now serves 10,000 individuals a year, and the Foundation has grown to a dozen locations in South Boston and nearby. The 2023 Leadership Award to John McGahan is sponsored by the Joseph Nee Collaborative Center of South Boston. Edward Foley is its President; Andrew Ward, LICSW, serves as the Collaborative Center’s Executive Director. In our interviews with him, Andy stressed the immense importance of John’s leadership. He said, “John (McGahan)
