An American Flag in the Polish Triangle by Rick Winterson

ou are of course aware that the American flag f lown over Pulaski Park and set on its own pole has disappeared. The pole was set in a concrete plinth immediately to the right of the memorial stone that has the bust of Casimir Pulaski on top. This pole was bent to the ground by a lone vandal; the vandal then ripped the flag from its ties. The whole sequence was caught on film by a security camera. It was nothing but a senseless act of vandalism However, even events like these can have a (somewhat) happy ending. South Boston Online is pleased to report that Rob Santiago, the City of Boston’s Commissioner of Veterans Services, has presented a replacement f lag to Stasia K acprza k, the President of

the Polish American Citizens Club that originally created Pulaski Park. This not only conf irms Boston’s dedication to veterans, it also confirms our City’s strong support of worthwhile civic associations like t he Polish A meric a n Citizens Club. Good job! T he Pol i sh A mer ic a n Citizens Club is 82 years old. It was founded in 1939, partly because of the many Polish patriots who f led the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany. The Club has become a proud addition to its neighborhood, located immediately after the Rev. Chmielinski Bridge (over the Southeast Expressway) in Casimir Pulaski Square at 82 Boston Street.
