Recovery Celebrated with Joy and Laughter

ecovery is a marvelous word. It basically me a n s “g e t t i n g better, or getting something back”. And “Recovery” always refers to something important, like health, a stolen artwork, or an out-of-orbit space capsule. And did you know that September is National Recovery Month 2019?

Monday, September 16, was Recovery Day, celebrated all around Boston, starting at City Hall. The word “Recover y” in Recovery Month refers to overcoming addiction – an addiction to substances such as drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or prescription medications. Most Recovery observances are actually celebrations, because putting an addiction behind you is such a joy. Last Friday evening, the 13th, the Gavin Foundation celebrated Recovery with a (free) Comedy Show, including a taco buffet with dessert, at the IBEW Hall on Freeport Street. Yes, it was an outstanding celebration of the joys of Recovery. And no, it made no difference that the Gavin’s Recovery celebration took place on Friday, the 13th! John McGahan, the President
