Ribbon Cutting Celebrates O’Connor Way Senior Housing

oston Mayor Kim Janey cut the ribbon on O’Connor Way Senior Housing Wednesday a f ter no on to of f ic i a l ly welcome home its residents. “W henever I can cut a ribbon on new housing, or housing that’s affordable, or housing that is for seniors, it is a wonderful day in the city of Boston,” the mayor said. “We’re really excited to be here today,” Donna Brown, executive d irector of t he South Boston Neighborhood De ve lopment C or p or at ion, said in her opening remarks. “We completed this project in December and we have not been able to celebrate until now.” O’Connor Way, which boasts 46 units of affordable housing for the elderly, was developed on vacant land donated by the
Boston Housing Authorit y. The project was spearheaded through a partnership of the South Boston Neighborhood D e ve lopme nt C or p or a t ion a nd Ca rita s Communities. Kate Bennett, administrator for the BHA, thanked Donna “ for being t he a f fordable housing wa rrior t hat you are. You have forged a path in this neighborhood where no one ha s gone before. “I’m sure I speak for others in expressing gratitude. Your impact here, at this site, and t hroug hout Sout h Boston, is remarkable. Young families joined the MOMS Club of South Boston Wednesday for Bubbles & Music in DCR Marine Park, a free night of family fun featuring Mr. Vinny the Bubble Guy and the Toe Jam Puppet Band. The kids couldn’t get enough of the bubbles! The event was sponsored by Save the Harbor/Save the Bay and DCR Massachusetts.
