n 1620, exactly four hundred (400) years ago, the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock after a very difficult voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in their ship, the small, threemasted Mayflower. The date they arrived was December 18 on the Julian calendar, after the Mayflower had first landed five weeks before on the tip of Cape Cod, where Provincetown now sits. For many reasons, the Pilgrims decided to establish their permanent New World colony in this place, which they then christened with the British name “Plymouth”. So the current Year of 2020 is a very important anniversary in American history. Some claim that it should be the f irst a nd most impor ta nt remembrance of all.
