Dr. Hennessee to Retire by Rick Winterson
H
is full name is Dr. Millard T. Hennessee; he is engaged in Podiatric Medicine & Surgery (foot and ankle), His office and practice is located at 654 East Broadway, but since the good Doctor is willing to make house calls any day of the week, perhaps it is more accurate to describe his practice as being anywhere in the neighborhood. Wherever he is needed, he will be there. And that is the way Dr. Hennessee has practiced healing since arriving in South Boston 38 years ago – in 1981. Now, he plans to retire to Cotuiit, as of June 28. Dr. Hennessee has always loved South Boston. He originally came from a project neighborhood in Ba ltimore himself, and he says, “Coning here was just like coming back home”. One of his first
adventures in South Boston began near M Street Park. He was in his car, and stopped to ask directions. Without a moment’s hesitation, the person he asked insta ntly hopped into the Doctor’s car and said, “C’mon, I’ll take you there.” He even knew the Doctor’s patient and told him to go to the second f loor. He remembers making a house call on a patient one gray, cloudy day. She met him in the kitchen, where a little light was coming in, because she had run out of light bulbs. Another at-home, elderly patient kept looking back and forth while Dr. Hennessee was examining her. It turns out she was watching a skittish squirrel that had been entrapped inside her house. They both dissolved into laughter as the Doctor tried to sweep it out with a broom, which
