e are now six days into the eight-day prelude leading up to the Fourth of July, the American Independence Day, 2021. T h i s c om i n g Su nd ay, the 4th, the United States of America will arrive at its 245th Birthday. So enjoy it, observe it, and celebrate it, especially now that the COVID-19 pandemic finally seems to have taken a turn for the better. Last Saturday, Boston began “Independence Week ” wit h the 40th Harborfest, a day-
long “Hello Harbor” festival on Long Wharf. Holiday events continued with a Kickoff today, when Boston’s Mayor Kim Janey gave her welcoming speech on “The Steps” in Downtown Crossing at 11:30 this morning. Tomorrow – Friday, July 2 – is really a part of the long Independence Day weekend. After teaching at Gate of Heaven School and South Boston Catholic Academy for many years, Mrs. Powers will be missed, but is now starting a new journey of her well-deserved retirement!
