n Saturday, May 30, a seven-alarm fire took place in the 1420 block of Columbia Road, on the western corner of its intersection with Douglas Street. The first alarm was turned in at approximately 3:30 a.m. last Saturday morning, May 30, and quickly rose to seven alarms. The fire was most intense right at the corner formed by the two roadways; damage was extremely severe in the rear of the seven houses involved. It took approximately six hours for the Boston Fire Department (the BFD) to bring the fire completely under control. Fire crews then remained onsite until late Saturday afternoon to make sure that the huge fire was completely extinguished and local hot spots would not reignite. Fortunately, no civilians
