Jon Cronin Receives Walsh “Leadership in Recovery” Award by Rick Winterson Here in the City of Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, there’s an important award that recognizes significant efforts in the cause of Recovery – it’s the Martin J. Walsh “Leadership in Recovery” Award. In this case, the word “Recovery” means overcoming alcohol or drug abuse. Monday evening, January 13, in a highly meaningful ceremony attended by 200 at South Boston’s Seaport Hotel, Mayor Walsh conferred the third annual “Leadership in Recovery” Award upon Restaurateur and South Boston Developer Jon Cronin. Over the last two decades, Jon Cronin has freely given a great deal of assistance and economic support to the cause of Recovery, even though Jon isn’t in Recovery himself. He did this work and made his contributions because he realizes that people with substance abuse problems need a helping hand from members of the

Recovery requires a collaborative effort – an effort that resulted in the South Boston Collaborative Center 20+ years ago. Last Monday’s Award program was quite impressive. It was opened by Andy Ward, the
Bob DeLeo, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker. It was especially meaningful to hear Speaker DeLeo – not only were his remarks humorous, but he’s also the very first recipient of the Mayor Walsh’s “Leadership in Recovery” Award. Mayor Walsh then conferred Continued on Page 2
