South Boston residents started 2016 the same way they have for decades: by jumping into the frigid water of the Atlantic Ocean on New Year’s Day. This year, up to 1,000 people participated in the L Street Brownie’s annual swim, which started at 8:15 a.m. Friday. Above: Tommy (in the kayak), for the 30th year, bugled the plungers into the water. Read about the event and see more photos on Pages 8 and 9.
