01.

SAJITH’S RESIDENCE

Status: Completed Type: Residential Architecture Location: Birunani, Coorg, Karnataka This modest home is located on a 4 acre plot in Coorg, designed for the client, his mother & his two dogs.

The home follows an open floor plan where the common spaces flow continuously into each other and are unobstructed by walls; save for spaces such as the bedroom & washrooms. The design is a response to the weather in Coorg with its heavy rains & cold winters. Hence, the roofs are sloped to accommodate for the rains.

The home was constructed on a fairly limited budget & this led to certain decisions including the use of un-plastered walls on the exterior, concrete roof tiles supported by a metal frame as opposed to a fully concrete sloped roof, polished concrete flooring, built-in concrete furniture & a sparing use of ceramic tiles. All of these add to the raw & brutalist style of the residence.

My responsibilities for this project include designing, creating drawings, 3D modeling, rendering & site coordination.

MC LUXURY

Status: In Construction Type: Commercial Architecture & Interior Location: HRBR Layout, Bengaluru, Karnataka Maruthi Ceramics is a brand focused on high quality ceramics, surfaces & fixtures. This project, titled MC Luxury is a step up from their previous endeavours & is their entry into the luxury brand space. It features brands such as Cielo, Alape, Dornbracht, Antonio Lupi & many more.

The facade is a simple array of patterns depicting the company’s logo made of back-lit acrylic on a base of ceramic tiles.

The interior is designed by siphoning off spaces and creating certain pocket of spaces that we referred to as mock-ups which featured a certain theme or brand. It allowed us to explore a range of style by utilizing the unique identities of the brands that were being offered.

My responsibilities for this project were to gather relevant information about the site, designing with the help of the brands, prepare the drawings, 3D modeling, rendering, coordinate with vendors & handling site with periodic updates.

03.

MAINI AEROSPACE

Status: Conceptual Type: Commercial Interior Location: Bommasandra, Bengaluru, Karnataka This space, located on the terrace of an existing office, is to function as a breakout space for the employees at Maini Aerospace. The terrace itself is covered by a sloped roof with a grid of metal columns placed throughout. The requirements for this space included a podium for events & casual discussions, a seating space with a small pantry, a reading corner & open spaces for games & physical activities.

The approach to this design was to use a curved pathway leading throughout the space while also allowing the user to discover the space in a non-linear fashion. There is a heavy use of curved seating, ceiling suspended ropes & platforms which divide the space without creating a visual obstruction.

This project is conceptual as it was never constructed.

My responsibilities for this project was to coordinate with the team that prepared the drawings & use that as a base to create a presentation by means of 3D models, renders & digital sketches.

SUN MOBILITY

Status: Completed Type: Commercial Location: NA This goal of this project was to create an enclosure for a charging unit, a machine designed to charge & store reusable batteries, and protect it from environmental hazards.

The company Sun Mobility created the system “Quick Interchange Station” that allows for electric vehicles to swap batteries at a fuel stations & continue operating without pause.

The firm was tasked with creating an enclosure for the same, although the task itself may seem mundane, the challenge was to be able to recreate this exact unit all across the country; numbering over a 1,000 units across the country in the first phase.

My responsibilities for this project were to design, make drawings, coordinate with the fabricator for execution & create a manual that stated in detail all the material required to build this & the procedure for doing so along with helpful graphics to aid the process.

SHANKAR MALL

Year: 2013 Type: Commertial Architecture & Interior Location: Tumkur, Karnataka Shankar Mall is one of the first malls in Tumkur, nicknamed “The Shard”, it is designed to stand out from it’s surroundings with it’s large angular facade that leans forwards creating a very distinctive silhouette.

The construction started in 2013 and has been recently opened to the public with all it’s amenities that include stores, fast food restaurants, terrace bar & many more.

My responsibilities for this project were toward the end of the construction, I was tasked with creating a render showing the facade with the finalized cladding material, which was silver tinted ACP paneling. I also needed to create a view of the north entry with the curtain wall. All of this was achieved by modeling the structural details provided in detail & placing the specified finishes & creating the final image.

06.

CRUISE TERMINAL

Year: 2019 Type: Academic, 8th Semester (Thesis) Location: Mangalore, Karnataka This is an academic project in the 8th Semester (Thesis). The project site is located on the coast of Mangalore. It is a transportation facility dedicated to cruise ships. The overall site is 1,65,000 Sqm with a mild slope leading into the ocean on one side & into a river on the other.

The design proposed used the site to orient the structure perpendicular to both the sea & the river creating a sort of bridge between the two allowing for land and water transit as needed by the users. The design also included a long jetty that extends into sea allowing most moderately sized vessels to sail closer to pick up the passengers without being grounded.

HIGH RISE

Year: 2018 Type: Academic, 7th Semester Location: Mysore Road, Bengaluru, Karnataka This is an academic project in the 7th semester (AD). The project site is located beside the Mysore road metro station & was to be a 60 floor high rise deisgn. The goal was to understand vertical circulation, fire safety & operational challenges at that height.

The design that I proposed for the building came from a study of wind loads on massive structures & a combination of simple parametric design that focused on reducing wind load by allowing it to pass freely across it’s twisted surface.

SALON INTERIOR

Year: 2018 Type: Academic, 7th Semester Location: BEL Road, Bengaluru, Karnataka This is an academic project in the 7th semester (Interior Design). The site was located on BEL road & was to be a hair salon. The task was to design the interior to suit the theme & mood we wished to set.

The design I proposed was that of a 20th century salon with an industrial interior focusing on raw finishes such as concrete, exposed bricks, unpolished wood surfaces & painted metal.
