Indoor five-a-side arenas upgrade with HARMAN Indoor 5-a-side arenas in Swindon and Birmingham have recently undergone substantial face lifts, including state-of-the-art audio visual systems, new 3G pitches systems and facilities for a version of five-a-side football played on a smaller field and mainly indoors.

The sound system was largely sourced from the HARMAN catalogue, represented in the

UK and Ireland by Sound Technology Ltd., and specified and installed by system designers Nottingham Audio Visual (NAV) working for project management company, The Media Group.

Processing is under BSS Soundweb BLU-100 control, with BLU 8v2 and Soundweb Contrio EC-8BV controllers. Audio is sent to 4-channel Crown DCi amplifiers which drive the systems, using HARMAN’s BLU-Link digital audio bus.

JBL’s AE Series was specified — principally the AC2212/00 and AC599 matched with AC118S subs.

JBL Professional has introduced the VTX A12 line array offering a completely redesigned solution for midto large-size touring productions and high-end fixed installations.

VTX A12 features a new full-face grill design that reduces the number of exposed components and protects the loudspeaker from extreme weather and road conditions. The enclosed grill helps the system achieve IP55 and can be finished in a variety of colours to suit fixed install applications.

An HF section with three uniquely designed drivers, a new Radiation Boundary Integrator (RBI) with four 5” mid-frequency drivers and two lightweight 12” low frequency woofers with 4th-generation Differential Drive design combine to deliver a system with the highest output per weight, increased sensitivity above 6kHz, great low-frequency extension, and 90 degree directivity down to 300 Hz. Best-in-class rigging enables fast setup and precise configuration featuring a patented locking mechanism to automatically lock the cabinet angles to the desired position. Array elements are stored in vertical transport carts in a collapsed position to allow for quicker setup and derigging.

JBL Array Link

A patented internal locking mechanism makes it easy to set arrays from 0.25 to 10 degrees using selector pins. Once the system is suspended, the mechanism automatically locks the cabinet angles at the designated positions.

Boiler Shop installs complete HARMAN system Integrated corporate and live event systems, including a JBL VTX flagship line array and twin Soundcraft Vi consoles, have been specified in a new venue in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, part of an ambitious rejeneration project on a site rich in the city’s locomotive heritage.

For control, a new generation Soundcraft Vi3000 was specified for FOH and a Vi2000 for monitors, allowing the same amount of processing at either end, but with the smaller frame size of the Vi2000 purpose selected to fit on the stage. Each console connects to its own Vi Stagebox 64/32 via Cat5, allowing both operators control of their own high quality preamps. A Soundcraft Realtime Rack Ultimate provides FOH engineers with studio quality UAD-2 plug-ins. The Mac Mini and touchscreen allows not only control of the Realtime Rack, but also 64-channel record and playback directly from the Vi3000’s on-board Dante port.

The Live Music sound system comprises two hangs each of six JBL VTX-V20 line-array elements, powered by three Crown I-Tech 4x3500HD amplifiers. Subs consist of nine VTX-S25, ground stacked as three cardioid clusters of three, powered by five Crown I-Tech 12000HD. Front fill is provided by three stand-mounted JBL VTX F15s.

The Corporate system comprises of CBT 70J column arrays with 70JE LF extension units, powered by Crown DCi4|1250N amplifiers. A BSS network is constructed from BLU-806 and BLU-160 units, the 806’s DanteTM allowing for future expansion of the system.

Vi3000 for Hackney Empire

One of London’s landmark theatres has installed a new Soundcraft Vi3000 digital mixing console as the first phase in a planned sound system upgrade.

The Grade II-listed Hackney Empire is one of the few surviving Frank Matcham designed music halls, built around the turn of the 20th century, and according to Technical Manager, Othman Read, with the new desk the venue has made its first excursion into digital en route to replacing the entire technical infrastructure.

Soundcraft brings automatic mic mixing to Vi Series Soundcraft has released v6.3 software for the Vi console range. The update contains three new features - vMIX automated microphone mixing and the ability to control input channel processing from the master Vistonics screen- plus a significant number of improvements and fixes.

HARMAN Professional Solutions adds AES67 support HARMAN Professional Solutions has announced support of AES67 across networked audio and video product families.

New Soundweb London BLU-806DA, BLU-326DA and BLU-DA devices will support both Dante and AES67 natively and will replace the BLU-806, BLU-326 and BLU-DAN devices respectively.

Crown DCi-DA Dante amplifiers now also support AES67 through a firmware update.

AUDIO ARCHITECT 2.0 The HiQnet Audio Architect 2.0 update - available now - includes the new Soundweb London devices and updated firmware for the Crown DCi-DA amplifiers.
