From the Dean’s Desk Welcome to the 2016/17 Theatre Season at Florida State University. For 43 years, the School of Theatre at FSU has brought the thrill of live theatre to Tallahassee audiences, and if you have been with us before, you understand why our program has become one of the most renowned in the nation. You have seen students perform on this stage that went on to earn Broadway roles and others who now hold important leadership positions within the theatre community. Each and every one of our student actors – past and present – gain experience here at FSU that prepares them for a multitude of careers in theatre and beyond, and while the faculty and staff serve as their educators and mentors, your support by being here and playing the role of their audience, is equally important. I thank you for being a part of our theatre community and hope that you are enlightened and entertained by our performance today.

We at the School of Theatre are excited about the upcoming season and invite you to become a part of our journey. We are committed to a learning environment that builds on our rich past as it enters a new year – encouraging excellence, imagination, artistry, and leadership to empower our students to create the theatre of the future.

This year at the School of Theatre, we hope that you will take great pleasure in exploring the bounty of our upcoming season. Together, we will have the opportunity to investigate what kinds of armor we put on in hopes of surviving the world around us. How being ourselves can be the greatest gift we can give and how in the end, love really does conquer all.

Our ability to present theatre in meaningful ways depends on the deep and continued generosity of YOU – our patrons, donors, and community. It is fitting to take this moment to thank each of you for your varied and deep, individual connections and financial contributions to the School of Theatre. The School of Theatre at Florida State As one of the top-tier theatre training programs in the nation, the School of Theatre at Florida State provides its students with a wide variety of theatrical and educational opportunities. The primary mission of the School of Theatre is to offer students a comprehensive education in theatre and to prepare emerging artists to enter the professional theatre industry. As a result, the School of Theatre provides both student artists and community audience members a diverse array of productions that explore the spectrum of our shared humanity.

Founded in 1973 under the vision and leadership of then-Dean Richard G. Fallon, the School of Theatre enjoys a national reputation, in large part, because of the excellence of its undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as a gifted faculty of nationally recognized professional artists/educators. The London Theatre Studies program, the chance to work side by side with guest artists and eminent scholars, as well as showcase opportunities in New York City and Los Angeles are just a few of the many reasons why students are attracted to our various professional and academic degrees from all over the United States, many foreign countries, and every county in Florida.

Alumni of the program include Broadway stars Montego Glover and Leslie Flesner, television producer Steven Sears, Emmy Award-winners John Papsidera and John Brace, Broadway producers Heather Provost and Darren Bagert, Playwright and Professor Suzan Zeder, and a host of talented entertainment industry professionals. Through their creative work, research, publication, and service, School of Theatre alumni contribute to the commercial, educational, and cultural life of the citizens of Florida and the nation.

The School of Theatre at Florida State is a member of the University/Resident Theatre Association, Inc. and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre.

Who’s Who Daniel Deist (Douglas) is a junior BFA Acting major from Roswell, GA. Previous credits include The Tempest (Caliban) and Twelfth Night (Antonio).

He is excited to be working with this cast and crew and thanks his family and friends for their continued support.

R. Ward Duffy (Leonard) received a MFA in Acting from the FSU/Asolo Conservatory in 1989. He has performed across the country in plays ranging from Shakespeare to Shepard and contemporary playwrights such as David Lindsay-Abaire, Sharr White, and Theresa Rebeck. Television and Film credits include The Good Wife, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, The Knights of Prosperity, and the upcoming Days And Days. He is happy and proud to be working with the talented cast, crew, and production team of Seminar. He lives in NYC with his wife, actress Henny Russell, and their dog, Bailey.

Cecil Jennings (Martin) is a senior BFA Acting major. Previous credits include Hedda Gabler (Eilert Lovborg), Twelfth Night (Sebastian), and Breathless. Cecil is excited to be working with Ashley, Chloe, Hannah, Kate, and Cameron.

Skye Kim (Izzy) is a sophomore BA Theatre major from Orlando, FL. Seminar marks her FSU debut.

She thanks her beautiful family for their continued support and Thomas for encouraging her to audition.

Mary Beth Ritter (u/s Izzy, u/s Kate) is a senior BA Theatre major from Lakeland, FL. Recent credits include A Little Night Music (Petra) with the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival. She is thrilled to be part of such an awesome cast and thanks her friends and family for their constant support.

Ian Sicks (u/s Martin, u/s Douglas) is a junior BFA Acting major from Brookhaven, MS. Previous credits include New Horizons: Original Works Festival, The Chairs, and Twelfth Night (Curio). He thanks Erin, Mom, and Dad. Antonina Vargas (Kate) is a senior BFA Acting major from Miami, FL. Previous credits include Some Girl(s) (Tyler), Breathless, Nouveau (Patricia), and The Motherf**ker with the Hat (Veronica).

She thanks Cameron, the cast and crew, and her amazing family and friends for all their love and support!

Rachel Buechele (Costume Designer) is a third year MFA Costume Design candidate. She holds a BFA in Theatre Design and Technology from Oakland University in Rochester, MI. She has previously worked at Utah Shakespeare Festival, Hope Summer Repertory Theatre, and The Henry Ford Museum in the Period Clothing Studio. Recent credits include A Chorus Line (Costume Designer), Spring Awakening (Costume Designer), and Much Ado About Nothing (Scenic Designer). Rachel would like to thank her family and Brian Williams for always being there for her.

Zach Cramer (Sound Designer) joined the staff of the School of Theatre in November 2009 as their Sound Designer. Since then, he has designed nearly all of FSU’s productions.

Favorite FSU credits include RENT, The Drowsy Chaperone, Jesus Christ Superstar, How to Succeed…, Much Ado About Nothing, Spring Awakening, Ragtime, Legally Blonde, and Hedda Gabler. Other design credits include the award winning Theatre Tallahassee productions of The Full Monty, The Producers, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, and Avenue Q, and the Theatre a la Cart productions of The Who’s Tommy, Ragtime, Seussical The Musical, The Secret Garden and Nine (winner 2008 FTC, 2009 SETC and advanced to national AACT).

Ashley DeLuke (Stage Manager) is a senior BA Theatre major from Clifton Park, NY. She served as an Assistant Stage Manager for Legally Blonde, The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi, and New Horizons: Original Works Festival. She thanks Mom, Dad, and Britt for their constant love and support.

Tamara L. Honesty (Scenic Designer) is delighted to return to FSU after designing Legally Blonde.

Recent credits include Crowns, Other Desert Cities, Becky’s New Car (Human Race Theatre Co.); The Wild Party, Jane Eyre, Tempest (Western Illinois University); Picnic, La Cenerentola (University of Cincinnati—CCM); River Rat & Cat, The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi (Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park Educational Touring Co.). Her scenic design for Picnic won numerous awards and was showcased in the World Stage Design 2013 online gallery. She is a proud member of USA Local 829 and USITT. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor of Scenic Design at Kent State University. Check out her website at www.edwardlaynedesigns.com.

Who’s Who Cameron Jackson (Director) serves as the School’s Executive Director and holds a BFA in Acting from New York University and a MFA in Stage Management from the University of Alabama.

Cameron has taught at Mars Hill College, the University of Tennessee, Arizona State University, and was a founding Director of The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland. Cameron has worked at Virginia Stage Company, Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre, Folger Shakespeare Library, The Promenade Theatre, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Manhattan Theatre Club, Clarence Brown Theatre, La MaMa ETC, the Performing Arts Center at SUNY Purchase, The Minetta Lane, The Clurman, The Lion, Circle Rep, The Beckett, New York Theatre Workshop, Riverside Players, City Hall, Ruth Eckerd Hall, Sun Valley Rep, and Perry Street Theatricals. A native Floridian, Cameron has spent several years on the road with shows like Penn & Teller, The Refrigerator Tour, Jekyll and Hyde, Dirt with Ralph Waite, and over 300 performances of Harriet the Spy. Cameron has been involved in some aspect of a production in every state except Hawaii, Alaska, and Washington.

Highlights of his productions include The Art of Success with Tim Curry and Mary Louise Parker at Manhattan Theatre Club, A Christmas Carol with Helen Hayes, Raul Julia, and Len Cariou, and a New York Theatre Workshop production of Sally’s Gone, She Left Her Name with Michael Lerner, David Canary, Cynthia Nixon, and Robert Sean Leonard.

In addition to his work in academia, production management, and stage management, Cameron was an actor for ten years and the Chair of the theatre department for the Pinellas County Center for the Performing Arts, a performing arts high school.

Cameron is a member of Actor’s Equity Association, the Stage Manager’s Association, and a mentor in the USITT’s Stage Management Mentor’s Project.

Zach Murphy (Technical Director) is a second year MFA Technical Production candidate from Clinton, MS. He recieved his BFA in Theatre Design and Technology from the University of Mississippi.

Regional credits include Bigfork Summer Playhouse (Assistant Technical Director, Master Carpenter), Surflight Theatre (Master Carpenter), and Oxford Shakespeare Festival. He worked on last season’s The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi (Assistant Technical Director) and is looking forward to working on the upcoming How I Became a Pirate (Assistant Technical Director).

Genny Wynn (Lighting Designer) has worked in many venues all over the country. Some of her favorites include Mill Mountain Theatre (Roanoke, VA), Company of Fools (Hailey, ID), and Peach State Summer Theatre (Valdosta, GA).

She has taught Lighting, Sound, and Set Design at Boise State University and Christopher Newport University. This fall, she is excited to be joining the faculty at Valdosta State University as an Adjunct Professor. She wishes to dedicate all her work to her wonderful mentor Pat Simmons.

About the Patrons Association The Patrons Association was established to support the students, faculty, and staff at the School of Theatre by promoting activities that enrich the School and the cultural life of our community.

Founded in 1970, the Patrons Association and its 300 members provide a valuable link between the School and the community, and help to ensure the best possible theatrical entertainment for Tallahassee.

The Patrons Association provides support for student scholarships as well as valuable assistance to support performances and programs that enrich the lives of all students and community members.

This year, the Patrons Association raised over $38,000 towards student scholarships and recruitment. We believe that with your involvement, we can further enrich the lives of our students and community members by providing an outstanding theatre experience, community programming and outreach, student and faculty enhancement, increase national student recruitment efforts, and support visiting guest artists through Patron supported and sponsored annual fundraising efforts and events.

Patrons Scholar Spotlight: Hannah Katz Hannah is a junior from Cooper City, Florida and is very grateful to be a Patron Scholar this year. She has a great deal of experience with student-producing organizations on campus and is thrilled to be assistant directing Seminar alongside Cameron Jackson.

Hannah was challenged to analyze a show from a variety of perspectives—director, actor, technician, etc. This assignment allowed her to engage with views outside of her own and enlightened her on just how varied and fantastic theatre is inside the FSU community. Hannah hopes to pursue a career as a director at a regional theater or—her dream job—on Broadway.

Hannah can’t thank the Patrons Association enough. With one financial burden lifted, she will have more invaluable time to spend on creative endeavors as a student. She also thanks her family and friends for their endless love and support.

Whether you are returning or visiting for the first time, we want you to feel comfortable and be familiar with our facilities and services.

As a courtesy to the actors on stage and other members of the audience, we ask you to silence cellular phones, pagers, and watch alarms during the show.

Lost and Found articles should be turned in to the House Manager and may be claimed at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, located in the Fine Arts Building.

Recording or photographing any part of this performance is strictly prohibited.

Cameras and recording equipment must be checked with the House Manager.

Restrooms are conveniently located in the lobby area.

For persons in need of hearing reinforcement, infrared headsets are offered free of charge in the Fallon Theatre. Headsets should be reserved through the Fine Arts Ticket Office.

There is no charge for this service; however, a driver’s license, major credit card, or $10 returnable deposit is required.

Patrons in wheelchairs will find handicapped parking available in the parking garages adjacent to the Fallon, Lab, and Studio Theatres.

Wheelchair seating is available at all of our theatres and should be requested when ordering tickets.

Patrons should seek the House Manager for assistance upon arrival.

Everyone must have a ticket for the event including infants and children in laps. If your child is causing a disturbance, please exit to the lobby. It is not advised that children under our recommended ages listed per show attend School of Theatre productions.

Smoking is not permitted in any Florida State University building.

Gift Certificates may be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office in any dollar amount. Gift certificates are great ideas for birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions.

There are a variety of ticket packages and discounts available. Theatre parties with friends and business associates may be organized at substantial discounts for groups of 10 or more.

Hours of operation for the Fine Arts Ticket Office are Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Ticket Office will open 60 minutes prior to each performance.

Late arrivals will be seated at the discretion of the House Manager. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to performance time to guarantee seating. Patrons arriving 15-20 minutes after the start of the performance will not be seated until intermission.
