MISSOURI’S MOST TRUSTED NAME IN REAL ESTATE COMES TO ST. LOUIS FALL 2025.
Welcome to St. Charles County
You're going to love it here! Not only does St. Charles county reside in one of the most beautiful states in the Midwest, but it also has its own array of impressive historical background to share. Remember Lewis & Clark, that famous duo that mapped our expanding country after President Thomas Jefferson purchased the Louisiana Territory from Napoleon of France in 1803 for a mere $15 Million? Those two famous explorers actually started their expedition from St. Charles on the Missouri riverfront on May 14, 1804 after securing all the provisions they needed for their famed journey west.
Another well-known historical figure that we claim is Daniel Boone. Daniel Boone was the epitome of a true frontiersman. After living life as an excellent hunter and trapper, and providing for his family, Boone began leading settlement parties to Kentucky and Missouri. It was noted in Lewis and Clark's journals that their expedition stopped at Boone's Settlement on the Missouri River.
St. Charles county definitely has that small-town feel, but, in reality, we are the fastest growing region in Missouri. The St. Charles county live, work, play experience is one you won't ever want to part with. You will be pleasantly surprised to find beautiful homes at affordable prices in urban and suburban communities in addition to available rural acreages (pages 12-18).
While you are checking out the neighborhood vibes, focus on where the kids will attend school. Take your time, you'll find the school that is a natural fit for your family (pages 34-40).
Once settled, enjoy the region's rivers, lakes and rolling hills. Coupled with top-ranked hospitals, universities, sports teams and historic neighborhoods, we've got you covered. Having fun and staying healthy is our number one priority here in the Midwest.

Liston Design Build helped the owners of this historical home make their space brighter and more accessible for years to come.

“ We love this Saint Charles historic area because of its architectural diversity, great neighbors and convenient location,” says homeowner Sue Kurtz. “We enjoy walking, and we have quick access to banks, grocery stores and restaurants.” While the location of their home had suited them well for the past 20 years, Sue and husband Roger knew they’d have to make some changes to the home’s interior in order to age easily in the space.
Originally built around 1870, their home needed a few “tweaks,” Sue says. Their remodeling wish list included better access to the cellar, a main-floor bathroom with a walk-in shower, a dedicated laundry room with sink and a larger closet for Roger.
To check off these must-haves from their remodeling wish list, the homeowners reached out to Keith and Jeanne Liston of Liston Design Build, a 35-year-old design and build firm. “Our clients live in close proximity to Liston Design Build’s office,” explains
Jeanne. “Our clients would walk by each day on their way to the yoga studio, and they watched the remodeling progress [of our office space]. Impressed by the changes, they inquired about a possible remodel, and one thing led to another, resulting in a beautiful transformation to their home.”
The design team suggested including a new kitchen in the addition; this allowed the conversion of the previous kitchen into the laundry room, bathroom and walk-in closet that they’d originally requested. “At the beginning of the planning process, we knew we needed to build an addition, but we never expected to include the kitchen in our renovation project!” comments Sue. “When Keith suggested that we put the kitchen into the new addition, we thought his idea was brilliant!”
During construction, the team and homeowners tried to save as many materials as possible, including the Corian countertop from their old kitchen island, which they used for the countertop in their pantry.
They also saved three of their old kitchen drawers, using two for hanging shelves in the laundry room while the third (which has the original installation date of June 2, 1950, and the signatures of the two carpenters who built the cabinets) sits on their kitchen counter by the stove. By repurposing existing elements in the home, Sue and Roger were able to keep some of their personal histories from the home while preserving the historical integrity.
“ This home is registered as a historical home and required approval via the city of St. Charles Landmark board,” explains Jeanne. “Additions on the exterior must reflect the original structure and meet historic preservation requirements.”
“ Each day we are awed by the beauty, charm and comfort that the Listons helped us create,” says Sue. “Liston Design Build helped us weave a blend of old and new in our historical home with an addition that respects the integrity of our 150-year-old residence. Jeanne and Keith are delightful, and they treated us like family right from the beginning.” See stlouishomesmag.com for resources and additional photos.

Hit the Trail
The Katy Trail offers unforgettable outdoor excursions throughout St. Charles County.
By Maya Brenningmeyer

Running along the route of the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, the Katy Trail spans 240 miles across Missouri. With countless walking, biking and horseback riding trails, historic sites and more, there are endless opportunities for entertainment.
Step into History
Curving along the Missouri River, with more than 20 towns in its vicinity, the trail is packed with opportunities for lunch stops, winery visits and more. Historic St. Charles sits as a tribute to the start of Lewis and Clark’s expedition. Step back into colonial times while visiting historic South Main Street. With more than 125 boutiques, locally owned businesses, restaurants and attractions, there’s fun for the whole family. Don’t miss out on the Lewis and Clark Boathouse & Museum to learn more about how the pair discovered the Gateway to the West.
Joyride
Further into St. Charles County, the Katy Trail winds through Missouri’s wine country and the Historic Daniel Boone Home. Make a detour into Defiance to rent bikes and spend a day cruising up and down the trail, taking in some of the best natural sites Missouri offers. The Katy Trail Bike Shuttle runs during May, June, September and October to help riders transport their bikes to the trail. Additionally, bike tours are available for those looking for a guided experience. Looking for a quick stop to rest? Popular spots for bikers to stop for a break include the Bike Stop Cafe in historic St. Charles, Good News Brewing Company in Defiance and the Augusta Bakery and Coffee Shop.
Looking for a historical excursion? Stop just off Highway F and take a stroll around the Historic Daniel Boone Home. Here, visitors are invited to explore the free site and peek inside the reconstructed 19th-century village and gift shop.
Comfort Zone
If you’re planning to spend the day on the trail, it’s important to know what amenities the site offers. Open from sunrise to sunset, the trail is pet-friendly, but they ask that pets remain on a leash at all times. Some trailheads offer restrooms and water areas and a comprehensive list of each site's amenities can be found on the Missouri State Parks website. It’s also important to note that the trails are covered in crushed limestone, which helps absorb the impact for outdoor activities but could make bikes dusty during multi-day rides.
Nature's Playground
St. Charles County offers a vast array of outdoor recreation. From dog parks to lakes to camp sites, there’s an endless amount of fun and history to explore at St. Charles County parks.

VACATION MODE
Located just minutes away from St. Charles County, Innsbrook Resort is a luxurious, outdoor haven perfect for a quick, easy getaway.
By Maya Brenningmeyer
Whether you’re looking for an escape from the city or a chance to enjoy the beauty of Missouri’s sprawling landscapes and lakes, Innsbrook is the perfect place for a staycation. Located 45 minutes west of St. Louis, the 7,500-acre campus holds residential properties, event centers, incredible dining options, boutiques and a golf course surrounded by beautiful lakes.
Midwestern History
Ed Boyce, the late founder of Innsbrook, was inspired to create the community after seeing an A-frame chalet in Aspen, Colorado, and dreaming of bringing a similar scenic getaway to Missouri. Boyce teamed up with Warren Wobbe Sr. and completed the Aspenhof development in Warren County in 1969. From the original 520 acres and 154 chalets, the project would grow 15 times the size of the original development. The name Innsbrook was created in reference to a region of Austria known for beautiful A-frames. In Boyce’s words, the development is a mix of “nature, recreation and serenity.”

MOVING with pets
To make the transition between residences easy for you and your pets, check out these helpful tips from tripswithpets.com.
BEFORE THE MOVE:
• Become familiar with leash laws, pet ordinances and pet licensing requirements with the state or county you are moving to.
• If you are renting, carefully review the lease to ensure that pets are allowed before you move in.
• Secure a new vet and have records transferred in advance of your move. Talk to your current veterinarian for referrals or research vets in your new area online.
• Get your pet a new identification tag that includes your pet’s name, your name, new address and phone number.
• Have a plan for how you are going to properly restrain your pet in your vehicle.
• If your move requires an overnight stay to reach your destination, plan ahead for overnight accommodations that are pet friendly.
MOVING DAY:
• Keep your pet secure. Place your pet in a designated safe place where he/she won’t accidentally escape as people are coming in and out of the house.
• Check on your pet frequently and try to maintain a regular feeding, walking and bathroom schedule.
YOUR NEW HOME:
• Prepare your new home. Have all of your pet’s necessities and essentials ready for them on day one so they feel comfortable in their new settings.
• Keep them leashed when not in the house or yard until they are familiarized with the new surroundings.
• Secure pets during move-in. Just as you did on the day you moved out, keep your pet in a safe and quiet place to ensure they don’t accidentally escape.
• Have a recent photo of your pet in the unfortunate event that they do run off during the move.
