Keep Main Street open Dear Editor: Our heartfelt thanks to the wisdom of the board of trustees for their decision to keep Main Street open for the Mountain Fair.

In a recent article in The Sopris Sun, trustee A.J. Hobbs suggested in a letter to the trustees and town staff that Main Street should be closed during the Mountain Fair for safety reasons. Closure of Main Street would be detrimental in numerous ways including the following : • Re-routing traffic to side and parallel streets would unnecessarily flood neighborhoods with cars unfamiliar with town, endangering walkers who are without sidewalks for their convenience and protection. Fair goers seeking parking denied to them on Main Street would add to the already serious problems neighborhoods face with overcrowding and illegal parking. Main Street has ample sidewalks, crosswalks and signage already in place to accommodate crowds. And fair goers have to bear responsibility for their own actions.

• Main Street businesses pay premium rents and contribute heavily to the tax base of Carbondale and deserve continuity of access throughout the fair. They depend on access, parking, an inviting atmosphere and the convenience to their customers to carry purchases a reasonable distance to their cars.

Closure of Main Street would be extremely detrimental to each of these necessities.

• In past closures of Main Street for First Fridays, the chamber of commerce has encouraged and even invited businesses, some of which were out-of-towners, to set up vendors booths to sell their products on the street, in direct competition with nearby businesses. To think that the next step in closing the street would not be to allow vendors to line the street to sell their wares would be indeed naive.

We applaud the members of the Carbondale Board of Trustees for understanding the

necessity of keeping Main Street open and trust that further discussions will reflect the same results: That Main Street is a vital and proud part of the town of Carbondale, which should remain open and accessible to all who visit here.

Buddy thanks Dear Editor: On June 23, over 100 Little Buddies, Big Buddies and some of their family members attended the Buddy Program’s annual picnic at Arbaney Park in Basalt to celebrate summer and their wonderful relationships.

We had wonderful entertainment and activities with juggling phenomenon Jammin’ Jim, as well as world-record holder Hula Hooper, Betty Hoops (aka Betty Shurin), plus games and, of course, lots of delicious food.

A big thank you to Megan Rainnie and Food & Wine Aspen for donating food for our event.

Also, a big shout-out to all of those Buddies and family members who brought some of their favorite dishes to share with everybody.

outdoors. Working at Carbondale’s Waldkinder Adventure Preschool has given me the boost I needed to return to my chosen profession of teaching. My job afforded me the opportunity to facilitate learning and exploring the Roaring Fork Valley with five, 5-year old children. Drum circle founder ready to pass the baton

By John Colson Sopris Sun Staff Writer Laurie Loeb has been called the “mother� of the annual Carbondale Mountain Fair, which returns to town this weekend for the 44th time, and for years she has been the “facilitator� for what most agree is the spiritual opening event of the Fair, the Friday afternoon drum circle in Sopris Park.

At the age of 75, Loeb has decided it is time to do something different and let someone else lead the 400 or so drummers who each year join the circle. “My mom lived to almost 102, and my dad made it to 94,� she told The Sopris Sun this week. “So I may be around for a long time. But I don’t have to be in this position.�

Loeb has served on the town’s board of trustees, she’s been a long-time teacher in different subjects and has lived in Carbondale since moving from Aspen in 1970.

For the past 16 years (with one break) she has been the main organizer of the drum circle, which this year is to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday.

And though she said she is determined that this year is her last at the helm of the drum circle, she noted that she tried once to hand the role over to someone else. “I did pass the baton three years ago,� said Loeb, sitting at the same dining room table from which she once ran the Fair’s operations. “But it didn’t take.�

That was the year, 2012, when fellow

drumming enthusiast and Carbondale resident Kip Hubbard agreed to take over the volunteer work of organizing and leading the drum circle.

But for various reasons, Loeb said, Hubbard actually only did the job for one year, 2013, a year when Loeb could not have done it herself due to health issues.

Other things got in the way of Hubbard’s continued leadership, Loeb took back the task in 2014, and this year Hubbard is working as a summer-camp director in Missouri while Loeb searches for another successor to what has been a labor of love for her since 1999.

Drum circle roots The drum circle actually got its start back when Loeb was 16 years old, and came to the Aspen Music Festival & School as the youngest student there and one of the few female percussionists around.

At the time, she said, she was “on track to be a symphonic percussionist,� concentrating on the timpani as her instrument of choice for two years, 1957-58.

But her inner party deity got the better of her, she said, explaining that “I was kicked out at 17 because I wasn’t in for my bed check. I was out with the townies, having fun.�

By then, however, she had been bitten by the Aspen bug. “I threw my career to the wind and I became a ski bum, much to my parents’ dis-

By 1969, disenchanted with how Aspen was changing, she bought property in Carbondale (from Wally DeBeque, one-time owner of the Dinkel Building), which included three dilapidated old houses on GarďŹ eld Avenue that were in various stages

of abandonment and disuse.

After ďŹ xing up one of them and moving into it in 1970, she continued with her renovation work and started renting out two of the houses to supplement her lifestyle. She still lives in one, at the corner of GarďŹ eld and 3rd Street, and still rents out the one next door.

New Carbondale book is a real name dropper

If you’ve never seen your name in print, or even if you have, check out “Memoirs of a River ‌ Up the Crystal, Vol. 2,â€? by Charlotte Graham, which concentrates on Carbondale.

Graham devotes pages to what she calls “characters� and gives mentions to dozens of residents who are living and those who have passed on. Her previous book, “Mem-

oirs of a River ‌ Up the Crystal Vol. 1â€? contained somewhat of an index that she herself put together. This time she hired professional indexer Deanna Butler, the granddaughter of the late David and Shirley Thompson of Redstone. It turns out ďŹ nding an indexer was a little bit of a story itself.

Graham and Doug Whitney were caretaking the Thompson house last winter after Shirley died, when she learned their granddaughter was a professional. “She asked me how many pages I wanted, and I told her ‘Do what you need to do.’� The result is an index with items ranging from current and past blacksmiths of Carbondale in the “B� section (Bill Smith, John Hoffmann and the Pattison family) to the Coal Basin mine.

Most of Vol. 1 was a compilation of monthly columns Graham wrote in the

Crystal Valley Echo starting in 2007. Most of Vol. 2 comes from interviews and research.

Easy to talk to and down to earth, Graham said she doesn’t tell her subjects she wants to interview them. “I don’t tell them I want to interview them ‌ I ask if I can come over and visit a bit.â€?

Weaving in and out of the people, places, events and organizations from the past 128 years, Graham clears up things not generally known or answers questions such as “Where did Dolores Wayâ€? get its name? Answer: Deloris June Hook Hinkey of Satank. “Memoirs of a River ‌ Vol. 2â€? will be available at the Carbondale Mountain Fair Valley Artists Booth all weekend. She’ll also sign books at the booth at 6 p.m. on Friday, and at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Second Mexican rodeo of 2015 slated Sopris Sun Staff Report The second Mexican rodeo of the summer is scheduled for July 25 at the Gus Darien Riding Arena on County Road 100, east of town. The rodeo is to begin at 4 p.m. and end at 9 p.m., according to a weekly memo sent by Town Manager Jay Harrington to the town board of trustees and town employees.

Among the many regular chores performed by town workers over the past week was the preparation of the Glassier Park horseshoe pits for this weekend’s annual Carbondale Mountain Fair competition. Considered by adherents to be the oldest continuously surviving element of the many Mountain Fair events, the horseshoe throwing contest along Weant Boulevard, next to the Bridges High School complex, is a bucolic reminder of days when things weren’t quite so hectic here.

Other chores accomplished by the town crews, according to Harrington, included: • Helping with the delivery of piles of topsoil along the Highway 133 corridor, in preparation for landscaping work to finish out the highway expansion project; • Saw-cutting and repairing parts of Sopris Avenue, where drywells have been malfunctioning during recent heavy rains; • Repairing a water leak at the town-owned and town-operated Gateway RV Park at the juncture of Highways 133 and 82; • Excavating and repairing a broken irrigation main-line in the alleyway behind the Dinkel Building; • Weeding flowerbeds along Main Street and in the town’s parks; • Trimming and lifting the “understory of trees” in the town’s parks and the Evergreen Cemetery on 8th Street.

In addition, the town hired workers from Mountain Temps to help pull weeds along the Highway 133 corridor; High Rise Tree Service to remove some medium-sized elm trees along Defiance Drive; and Aspen Tree Service to prune the trees in and

around Sopris Park.

Work continued this week on Highway 133 between Carbondale and Redstone, causing lane closures in both directions and prompting motorists to keep an eye out for flaggers.

Recreation programming at town facilities the week of July 13-17 included Motion Mondays Water Fun Day, a pre-school event; Start Smart Baseball with nine participants; the second session of Youth Tennis Lessons and Youth Climbing classes; skate lessons and the final week of bike-park lessons at the North Face Bike Park.

In addition, the Trails & Tents hiking program took 10 participants to Thomas Lakes at the base of Mount Sopris.

Harrington noted that the summer’s baseball season ended last weekend for the 9-10-year-old age group, with a tournament at the Bill Hanks and RVR baseball fields.

At the John M. Fleet Municipal Pool, session four of swimming lessons ended today (Thursday), and the fifth and final session of lessons is to begin on July 27.

Also, the second in the town’s series of three Child/Youth Mini-Triathlons took place on July 18.

Continuing recreation programming registration is available at the town’s website, www.carbondalerec.com.

Harrington wrote that for the past two weeks, three workers from the Colorado Job Temp Services have been pulling weeds at the North Face Bike Park, and that it is hoped that the majority of the weeds will be gone from the riding surface as of the end of this week. The weed-eradication was requested by the town’s insurance carrier, and is expected to be “an ongoing issue,” Harrington wrote.

Town staff was scheduled to meet with a lighting company, Musco Sports Lighting, this week to discuss erecting lights at Ron Patch baseball field adjacent to Carbondale Middle School.

Cop Shop From July 9-16, Carbondale law enforcement handled 251 calls for service. During this period, those officers and other authorities handled the following cases of note:

THURSDAY, July 9: At 1:07 p.m. Carbondale police were sent to the alley behind Main Street regarding an accident. They encountered a 59-year-old man who was the driver of the vehicle, and the police ticketed him for drunk driving and released him to a sober party.

FRIDAY, July 10: At 4:20 a.m. police arrested a local man on a charge of domestic violence and third degree assault in an incident involving another man.

FRIDAY, July 10: At 12:21 p.m. police got a call from a local woman reporting that her husband’s vehicle had been entered the night before. She reported that nothing of value was taken, and that a piece of cloth had been left behind, apparently by the intruder or intruders.

FRIDAY, July 10: The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office informed Carbondale police about an alleged sex offense that had taken place in Carbondale. The case is under investigation.

TUESDAY, July 14: Police started an investigation of an alleged phone scam perpetrated on a Carbondale resident.

WEDNESDAY, July 15: Police got a report of an attempted fraud, in which a caller claimed to be from the Holy Cross Energy utility and demanded payment immediately or the reporting party’s power would be cut off.

Unexpected heat at Carbondale fire district meeting

By John Colson Sopris Sun Staff Writer A survey of Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District residents, presented to the fire district’s master-plan steering committee as a draft report laying out the survey’s findings, generated some unexpected heat at a meeting on July 15.

During that meeting, some committee members questioned the survey firm’s methods and conclusions about public perceptions of the fire district’s job performance.

The survey, and an explanatory report presented by last week by Chris Cares of the survey-marketing firm RRC Associates of Boulder, are part of the fire district’s ongoing master planning process aimed at helping the district dig its way out of ongoing financial hardships caused by declining revenues. The Steering Committee is a standing group of volunteer advisors assisting the district with creation of an updated Master Plan governing operations and finances.

According to a slideshow presentation about the survey, it was mailed to 3,277 randomly selected residents of the sprawling district. Cares reported that 547 of the mailed surveys, known as the “invitation” sample, were completed and returned, for a response rate of 17 percent, which Cares said was sufficient to ensure statistical validity for the survey.

Another 72 surveys were completed from an online “open sample” but were tabulated separately, Cares said, explaining that the report is mainly based on the “invitation” sample.

As Cares went through the slide show on

July 15, some members of the committee started firing questions at him about the methods used and the results obtained.

For example, when Cares noted that the demographics (age, length of residence in the district, household income) of respondents responses did not match up with the demographics reported in the most recent U.S. Census, he explained that his company had massaged the numbers to reflect the census data.

“How can you manipulate the data and call it more accurate than the data you collected?” demanded Steering Committee member Ray Sauvey.

“It’s a widely used technique” for dealing with inconsistencies in survey results, Cares replied.

“But you’re changing the data,” Sauvey insisted. “This boggles my mind.”

In response to a question from committee member Chuck Torinus, who appeared not to share Sauvey’s concerns, Cares said the manipulation of the data did not result in much of a change in the results, but was in line with a surveying technique of using “preweighted data” to ensure that the pool of respondents matches up with the target population statistics.

Cares also said the goal of the survey is to focus not so much on the detailed data points it contains, but on “broad strokes” identifying possible areas of conflict, confusion or lack of understanding about the district among the constituents.

An early question in Cares’ report asked respondents, “Is the fire department doing a

good job?”

A bar graph showed that 72 percent of the invitation sample answered, “Yes,” while 26 percent answered, “Uncertain or don’t know” and roughly two percent answered, “No.” A pie chart regarding the same question, however, shows only that nearly 98 percent of respondents answered, “Yes” to the jobperformance question, while approximately two percent answered, “No,” a representation that again drew criticism from Sauvey.

“Why would you eliminate 25 percent of your respondents?” Sauvey asked. “That’s false, that’s just plain false.”

But Cares said the intent was to show that, “of those who had an opinion,” 98 percent believe the district is doing a good job.

“But we’re not trying to take the 72 percent and say it’s 98 percent,” Cares emphasized. “They’re not the same.” He said the report is meant to show that there is a sigFIRE DISTRICT page 15

Hauser on board at American Rivers American Rivers, a conservation nonprofit that protects and restores rivers, has named Colorado Mountain College President Dr. Carrie Besnette Hauser as one of three new board members. Commissioner proposes solution for CRMS issue

By John Colson Sopris Sun Staff Writer Officials apparently have found a solution to the ongoing problem of Garfield County Road 106 at it bisects the campus of Colorado Rocky Mountain School near Carbondale, which involves blocking the movement of auto traffic from one side of the campus to the other while permitting through traffic by pedestrians, bicyclists and equestrians.

The Garfield County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) — John Martin, Mike Samson and Tom Jankovsky — on Tuesday seemed to agree with the proposal, which initially was made by Martin during a commissioners meeting in Glenwood Springs on Monday, and was further explained during a walking tour of the roadway through the campus on Tuesday.

Members of a citizens group that has been agitating for establishment of an officially sanctioned, well-marked public trail on the road through the campus said they were content with Martin’s idea.

But at least one person connected with the CRMS side of the dispute, attorney Chad Lee, said after the Tuesday walking tour of the roadway that he did not think the school’s board of directors would be happy surrendering control of traffic movement on campus.

The proposal from Martin involves the erection of two fence lines running east and west, at two points along the CR106 right

of way through the campus — one would be opposite a driveway leading from the CR106 right-of-way eastward into the main campus, the other further north along the right-of-way.

These fences, under Martin’s plan, would prevent cars, whether parked or moving along either end of the right-ofway, from continuing through to the other end.

The idea, Martin explained on Tuesday, was to memorialize a 1979 agreement by the county to withdraw the CRMS stretch of the CR106 right of way from the county’s lists as a roadway for motorized traffic.

The 1979 agreement was a compromise reached when the school asked that the roadway be formally vacated and returned to CRMS ownership and control, a request the county rejected. The agreement left the roadway open to public use by pedestrians, bicyclists and equestrians, but was intended to eliminate motorized public use of the road and restrict it to vehicles operated by school personnel, students and parents.

At the end of Tuesday’s walking tour of the roadway, Martin explained that the BOCC would discuss the proposal at its meeting on July 27.

As things now stand, the public path would be on the road surface that now exists because the commissioners were unwilling to spend the estimated $200,000 or more that it would cost to either pave the

Martin, however, specifically left open the possibility that if some other funding could be arranged, the county would not oppose either paving the trail or installing some other surface.

At a joint meeting with the Carbondale Board of Trustees, the commissioner asked

whether the town would be open to maintaining the trail, at town expense, according to Trustee Allyn Harvey.

Harvey said the trustees were reluctant, but agreed to discuss the idea further once county and town staff had a chance to come up with details about exactly what maintenance of the trail might involve in terms of using town money and staff.

BLM plan includes ompson Divide protections Sopris Sun Staff Report Added protections against oil and gas drilling in the Thompson Creek area southwest of Carbondale, and a change in management practices for The Crown area adjacent to Prince Creek Road, are the main Carbondale-oriented effects of the recently released Resource Management Plan (RMP) of the Bureau of Land Management's Colorado River Valley Field Office (CRVFO).

According to the federal agency, the Record of Decision and Approved Resource Management Plan deal with 505,200 acres of surface area, and 707,200 acres of subsurface mineral rights in a six-county area that in-

cludes Garfield and Pitkin.

Overall, the plan designates 680 miles of routes for motorized use, 577 miles of routes for non-motorized use, and extends protections for 34,400 acres of lands that show wilderness characteristics, including Thompson Creek.

For example, the BLM has control over roughly 9,500 acres of terrain in the Thompson Creek area extending into both Garfield and Pitkin counties that are now protected from oil and gas leasing because of wilderness characteristics. The acreage is labeled as an “extensive recreation management area” (ERMA), which permits mountain biking, hiking, sport climbing, horseback riding and hunting.

This includes an area designated as an Area of Critical Environmental Concern around what are known as The Fins rock formations along lower Thompson Creek, and the Lorax trail that parallels Thompson Creek Road but on the other side of the high ridge east of the road.

Also, roughly 9,000 acres of land in the area known as The Crown, in Garfield, Pitkin and Eagle counties, are now designated as a “special recreation management area,” (SRMA) which limits off-highway and motorized vehicle recreation to certain sections.

“We are still managing for multiple uses there, but recreation has a greater emphasis

now,” said BLM spokesman David Boyd.

“Specifically, we are emphasizing mountain biking while continuing to maintain some existing motorized routes.”

With the new designation on the Crown, mountain bike use in the winter is prohibited, not just motorized use. “(This) shouldn't have a big impact on folks,” Boyd continued. “We haven't seen much winter use in there. The restriction is to protect wintering wildlife.”

The ERMA designation of the Thompson Creek area essentially is a continuation of management policies that have been in place since 1984, according to the BLM's RMP documents, available at the agency's website, www.blm.gov.

Sopris Sun Staff Report Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District is reminding residents to know where their nearest fire hydrant is.

“After a wet spring, weeds have grown tall and could make it hard for firefighters to find fire hydrants during an emergency,” said a fire district spokesman.

The district is asking residents to look for their nearest fire hydrant and remove any weeds around it, so that firefighters can easily gain access if needed.

The district suggests clearing at least three feet around the hydrant for easy access for firefighters.

“The simple act of cutting back weeds around a hydrant could make a difference,”

the spokesman continued.

Fire chief Ron Leach said there are more than 840 hydrants in the fire district. “With as much rain as we had in the spring, we simply do not have the manpower to clear the weeds from around all of the hydrants in our district of 300 square miles,” Leach said. “We are asking residents to step forward and assist our community safety effort.”

Leach added that if firefighters can’t see a fire hydrant, they could lose valuable time gaining access. “That extra time could raise the risk of injury or property loss.”

He also said the district suggests lending a hand to a neighbor who may need assistance clearing out their hydrant. “This act of kindness could benefit your entire neighborhood.”

In 1972 she was thrown into the task of organizing a local iteration of a traveling Chautauqua, sponsored by the Colorado Council for the Arts and Humanities, when the original organizer was injured in an automobile accident and Loeb stepped in a mere two weeks before the event date.

That Chautauqua soon morphed into the Mountain Fair, which in turn led to creation of the Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities (CCAH), which Loeb ran for seven years. “It was small and the ofďŹ ce was this table,â€? she said, placing her hand on the wooden surface, “and it was totally a volunteer job.â€?

Today, CCAH is a major artistic and economic driver in the middle section of the Roaring Fork Valley, with ofďŹ ces at The Launchpad (formerly the Gordon Cooper Library on 4th Street) and a paid staff.

Loeb holds a graduate degree in psychology and counseling, which indirectly lead to her interest in drumming as therapy. That in-

terest blossomed when her aging mom moved into the Heritage Park care facility at the north end of town in the late 1990s.

She put together a therapeutic drumming class for the elderly residents at Heritage Park, and soon began getting calls from a variety of valley organizations interested in hiring her to do the same for them. That, in turn, led her to make a sort-of business out of it called Rhythms Of The Heart.

And in 1999, after a week-long training session in Hawaii on how to facilitate a drumming circle, she brought a few of her personal drums to Sopris Park, gathered a group of some 80 enthusiasts, and the drumming circle was born.

Over the intervening years the circle has grown exponentially, getting to 500 or so participants in ďŹ ve concentric circles at its height about six years ago.

Today, she said, the circle typically numbers “in the 400s.�

She evinces a mixture of eagerness and sorrow at the thought of giving up the baton, but the eagerness wins out quickly as she talks.

She still bicycles and practices yoga regularly, though not as frequently or as intensively as she once did, and the huge garden outside her kitchen window is now managed by a family that rents the house next door and keeps her supplied with fresh produce.

And she still teaches a regular exercise class, Silver Sneakers, but just once a week instead of three times per week, as she did up until about two years ago, when she found herself exhausted and suffering from some serious maladies. “And that’s when I started to slow down,� she said with a grin, remarking that it was time to admit “my body is a hell of a lot older than my mind feels.�

the circle, and being ready to step in if the rhythm slows, or if a drummer gets offbeat and needs to be helped back into the stream of sound.

Quoting her trainer and mentor, Arthur Hull of Santa Cruz, California, Loeb said, “You have to have three-point radar on all the time. You have to work in the round, you have to face everybody. If you have your back to people, they can’t see the gestures of, well, of conducting.�

Having been built up over more than a decade and a half, Loeb said, “This drum circle here is pretty well seasoned, pretty well trained.�

But it needs a conductor, a facilitator, to keep it on track and prevent things from unraveling, she said, explaining “every participant is a thread in the fabric of the event.�

She is talking to one prospect, she said, and she has sold off the dozens of drums she once owned, mostly to participants in the circle “if they promised to bring them back the next year, back to the circle.

Which they did.�

So everything is ready for her to hand off the baton, if she can only ďŹ nd the right person, she concluded.

Exhibitions The Wyly Art Center presents “Retrospective: Intimate Gestures” featuring nationally exhibited artist Sarah Peterson through July 31. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Wyly Annex hours are Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Madigson’s work highlights Renaissance images layered with antique objects and transparent sheets, using the theme of time in a literal sense, embedding clock parts into the works, and sometimes hanging pendulums from the frames.

“The people who painted so long ago were as alive as each of us now. They had hopes, dreams, and lives we can never know. I bring them back to life, perhaps only for a moment, but alive nonetheless. It is this mix of transience and permanence that is so captivating to me,” Magidson said.

Magidson will discuss her work in an art talk at the Wyly Annex at 5:30 p.m. on July 28. She will show the short film “Windows Through Time,” which details her development as an artist and her exploration of the delicate balance between the material and the spiritual as an underlying theme in her art.

There will also be a Q&A session following the film. The Wyly will host artist dinner at the annex on July 30.

Grandin will then visit the Ascendigo adult-enrichment program for people with autism, located in the Third Street Center, and the Ascendigo Adventures equestrian program in Carbondale.

Grandin will also tour the Yellow House, an autism-friendly residence located one block off Main Street. It is a low sensory, low/non-toxic environment that is energy and water efficient and has many safety and security features to support the residents.

The Yellow House was conceived and funded by Sallie Bernard, whose son has autism, and designed by Steve Novy at Green Line Architects, who is also designing the cow-friendly dairy barn planned for Sustainable Settings.

Transformational community gathers Sopris Sun Staff Report A group of authors, teachers, community organizers and co-founders in the “Interspiritual” movement is converging on Carbondale and Aspen for a three-part conference on July 24-26.

Titled Healing Earth, Healing Self: A Gathering of the Transformational Community in the Roaring Fork Valley, the conference is cosponsored by Davi Nikent (Center for Human Flourishing), Aspen Wisdom School at the Aspen Chapel, and Colorado Mountain College Sustainability Studies.

The program includes: Dr. Kurt Johnson (co-author of the “The Coming Interspiritual Age”; Mirabai Starr, “Interspiritual” author, including “God of Love”; Dr. Rick Clugston (major architect of the Earth Charter; co-founder of the Ethics and Spirituality Initiative working on UN sustainable development goals); Rev. Mac Legerton (director of eco-ministry programs of the Forum 21 Institute and the Order of Universal Interfaith, and Director of the Center for Community Action); Karuna (teacher of well-being and transformation, specializing in Kundalini yoga); Rory McEntee (coauthor of “The New Monasticism: An Interspiritual Manifesto for ContemINTERSPIRITUAL page 15
