While feeding his cattle on Easter Sunday morning, Felix Tornare of Milagro Ranch on Missouri Heights takes a moment to give some love to this three-day-old calf. Some calves are quite approachable when they’re young but most prefer not to let people get too close. Number 25 here is in the minority, as he obviously enjoys getting his ear scratched. Voting deadline: 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5 By Lynn Burton Sopris Sun Staff Writer As of Tuesday, March 29, approximately 20 percent of the 3,300 ballots mailed to Carbondale residents for the 2016 municipal election had been returned, according to Town Clerk Cathy Derby. (Editor’s note: If you received a ballot in the mail with your name on it, you are eligible to open it, make your picks and send it back in the mail. (Don’t forget to put stamps on it), or to schlep it over to Town Hall between 7

a.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5 at the latest. If you have not received your ballot in the mail, head over to Town Hall and get one. You must be registered to vote, according to a town legal notice. You may now register to vote up to and including Election Day as long as you have been a resident of the state of Colorado for 22 days prior to the election. You must also be a resident of the municipality on the date you register). There are three components to the 2016 municipal election. In the trustees election, three

seats are up for grabs and the candidates are (in random order as per a legal notice placed in The Sopris Sun on March 24): Ben Bohmfalk, Wayne Horak, Patricia Warman, Allyn Harvey, Dan Richardson, Michael Durant, Marty D. Silverstein and Doc Philip. Each winner will serve a four-year term on the seven-member board. The ballot includes two tax-related questions. Ballot question 2A asks whether voters want to increase taxes on their electric and natural gas bills to pay for programs to reduce greenhouse

emissions and encourage energy efficiency and renewable energy use. Ballot question 2B asks whether voters want to increase property taxes by 3 mills to pay for capital improvements, including: streets, sidewalks, trails, parking and more.
