It seemed as if more and more folks were talking about what they are grateful for as New Year’s Eve approached this time around. Close proximity to wildlife, such as this great blue heron, topped some people’s list. This picture was taken less than a mile east of town on Blue Heron Lane. Roaring Fork Audubon Society member Mary Harris says the heron is probably part of the Rock Bottom Ranch preserve, which is located along the Rio Grande Trail.
