very week in and around Carbondale seemed to be action packed in 2014, with long-time traditional events mingling with new ones. Clockwise from upper left: More than 100 sheep were trucked in for the National Sheepdog Trials at Strang Ranch and more than one took a direct route to the ground; guys of all sizes and abilities dashed into the ring for the men’s wood-splitting contest at Mountain Fair; the Aspen Valley Polo Club on County Road 100 east of Carbondale laid acres of sod, built a new barn, arena and other facilities, then brought the sport back to the former Preshana Farm
directly south of Catherine Store; Mark Burrows gives his daughter Ticah a smooch following Roaring Fork High School’s graduation ceremony, which saw 60 students conclude one part of their lives and head on to the next.
