“ L o q ue c ons truy e una c om unida d” ¡BIENVENIDOS A LA GUÍA DE DONACIONES A ORGANIZACIONES SIN FINES DE LUCRO 2026: DE PARACHUTE A ASPEN! He observado a nuestras comunidades crecer y cambiar, he conocido gente extraordinaria y he llegado a apreciar lo que hace este lugar algo especial.

COLORADO GIVES DAY is Dec. 8, 2026 Giving Season begins Nov. 1

“ W h a t M a k es a C om m unity ” WELCOME TO THE 2026 NONPROFIT GIVING GUIDE - PARACHUTE TO ASPEN! This year, this letter feels a little different for me. I’ve called this valley home for 20 years. I’ve watched our communities grow and change, met extraordinary people and come to appreciate what makes this place special. For the past six years, as executive director of The Sopris Sun and through my work on this Nonprofit Guide, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know hundreds of people working in nonprofits throughout our region. I’ve seen firsthand how much heart, creativity and determination it takes to keep these organizations going, often with too few people and not enough money. What continues to impress me is how much they accomplish, whether they’re helping someone through a difficult time, creating opportunities for young people, protecting the places we love or bringing people together. This past year, I decided to be open about my cancer journey. I’ve never doubted the importance of community, but sharing something so personal brought a different kind of connection. The conversations, messages and encouragement I received reminded me how much it means when people take the time to reach out. It reinforced something I’ve believed for a long time: the connections we make with one another matter. That’s one reason this Guide means so much to me. Throughout these pages, you’ll meet more than 100 organizations serving communities from Aspen to Parachute. Some provide food, housing and health care. Others support education, preserve our history, care for animals, protect our environment or bring art, music and culture into our lives. Some are familiar names, while others may be organizations you’ve never heard of. Each contributes something different to the place we call home. I’m especially grateful to serve alongside a group of caring nonprofit leaders through Mountain West Gives, people who share their time, experience and ideas to strengthen our communities. I’m also proud of the role The Sopris Sun and Sol del Valle play in producing this Guide and sharing the stories of our region’s nonprofits. Last year, participating nonprofits raised more than $1.5 million through this regional giving effort. That’s an impressive number, especially for communities our size. But what matters most is what those dollars make possible. A family finding stability. A student discovering a new interest. A trail being maintained. A performance bringing neighbors together. None of it happens without people willing to contribute. Some write checks, others volunteer, businesses provide sponsorships and individuals find their own ways to pitch in. It all adds up. As you explore these pages, I hope you’ll take time to learn about the missions of these organizations and the work they’re doing. You might discover a cause that speaks to you, an opportunity to get involved or a resource that could help someone you know. With Colorado Gives Day coming up on December 8, there’s no better time to get involved. Whether it’s making a donation, volunteering your time or including a favorite nonprofit in your estate plans, there are many ways to make a difference today and for generations to come. After all these years, I continue to be impressed by the people who make this region what it is. This year’s experience reminded me that sharing our own stories can bring us closer together, too. Thank you for being part of what makes this community special. With gratitude, Todd Chamberlin Executive Director/Director Ejecutivo The Sopris Sun/Sol del Valle

The Alfred A. Braun Hut System is a non-profit organization that owns and operates seven huts (Barnard, Goodwin Greene, Markley, Lindley Tagert, Green-Wilson, and Opa’s Taylor). This is the oldest hut system in Colorado, since 1958 the Braun Huts have provided backcountry skiers with warmth and access to the beautiful and rugged Elk Mountains. The huts were originally owned by the US Ski Association and managed by Fred “Opa” Braun. Fred and the local community built (and rebuilt) the six original huts. In 1997 the Alfred A. Braun Hut System Inc. non-profit was formed and purchased the huts from the USSA. A massive campaign-- supported by donations from the community and volunteer labor--renovated five of the original huts, built the new Markley Hut, and in 2012 built the new Opa’s Taylor Hut.

MISSION STATEMENT To raise funds in support of Carbondale public schools for the betterment of our community.

The Carbondale Education Foundation started just before 2024, founded by enthusiastic parents who wanted local public schools to thrive beyond their current resources. Our vision is a Carbondale committed to academic excellence, innovation, and inclusivity. Together, we are shaping a brighter future by investing in the foundation of K-12 education and nurturing the leaders of tomorrow. CEF is still running entirely on volunteer time and effort. However, in our second full school year, CEF transitioned from a new initiative to becoming an important part of the public educational landscape by providing teacher grants, experiential grants, and supporting school supply funds - ensuring every child starts on equal footing. We have expanded our horizons, moving beyond foundational support to holistic investment in our students’ futures.

At Challenge Aspen, we believe that when access is equal, possibilities are limitless. For 30 years, we’ve transformed lives through adaptive skiing, snowboarding, rafting, biking, music, dance, and more—creating moments of joy, growth, and independence. Each year, we serve hundreds of individuals with more than 100 different disabilities, adapting over 25 unique activities. Last year alone, Challenge Aspen provided 3,680 activity days to 734 participants—and over half received scholarships or free programming thanks to donor support. Donations directly underwrite adaptive equipment, expert instructors, and scholarships, ensuring no one is turned away due to cost. When you give, you’re not just funding a day on the mountain— you’re fueling transformation: a child learning to paddleboard independently, a teen with vision loss discovering skiing as a lifelong passion, or a veteran rediscovering joy in the outdoors. Together, we are building a more inclusive world where everyone, regardless of ability, can thrive in the outdoors and in life. English In Action is dedicated to strengthening the quality of life for everyone in our community by helping adults learn English, develop digital literacy, and by building cross-cultural relationships. We do this through one-on-one and small group tutoring, weekly drop-in classes and activities designed to help students overcome obstacles to learning English. By improving their language and technology skills through our programs, our adult learners can manage their daily lives more effectively and become more engaged in community life. We are proud to report that our students and volunteer tutors often develop deep and enduring friendships. Breaking down cultural barriers is no small feat, but the benefits of nurturing a more connected community - one in which everyone has a voice - are immeasurable.

In the decades since, the organization has become an important community resource, preserving and sharing the unique history of Glenwood Springs, a Colorado treasure. For 50 years, Grand River Meals on Wheels has been a vital lifeline for homebound older adults from Parachute to New Castle. Backed by Grand River Health, the program delivered nearly 28,000 meals in 2025 to meet rapidly growing community needs. However, its impact extends far beyond nutrition. A dedicated team of nearly 100 volunteers provides daily wellness checks and crucial social interaction, often serving as the highlight of a recipient’s day. The program also ensures the well-being of clients’ companion animals through its dedicated “Portions for Pet” initiative. More than a simple food delivery service, Grand River Meals on Wheels stands as a powerful testament to community care, offering essential connection, safety, and unwavering support to vulnerable neighbors when they need it most. Journey Home Animal Care Center (JHACC) is honored to serve the animals and people of Colorado’s Western Slope. Our team provides medical care, shelter, and affection to over 1,400 animals each year. Through humane education initiatives we have helped children and adults from all walks of life to learn more about animal care and safety. The low-cost clinic in our building offers spays, neuters, vaccines, and testing at affordable prices to our community, with assistance in Spanish and English. Thanks to our growing veterinary staff, those appointments are now expanding to Monday through Friday. Our pet food pantry provides support to struggling pet owners, and our staff helps to unite animals with their forever homes. Donors, volunteers, and community advocates are the backbone of the work that we do; and we are proud to serve our compassionate community across five counties.

For over 40 years, LIFT-UP has been trusted as an essential part of our region’s social safety net. LIFT-UP’s five fixed food pantries a n d i t s M o b i l e M a r ke t a n d o t h e r emergency food programs serve more than 6,000 unique individuals from Aspen to Parachute. Many of our neighbors struggle to keep up with costs in one of the most expensive parts of the country. Some are seniors. Some are weathering an illness, job loss or other setback. A surprisingly large number are workers who earn too much to qualify for federal benefits, yet not enough to make ends meet. LIFT-UP’s goal is as simple as it is profound: to ensure that all residents – regardless of income, age, ethnicity or immigration status – have dignified access to nutritious, culturally sensitive food.

Response is the only nonprofit in the upper Roaring Fork Valley dedicated to serving survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, stalking and human trafficking. Response has been providing confidential, trauma-informed, bilingual, and free services to survivors in our community for over 40 years. This help includes crisis intervention, legal, and medical accompaniment, assistance with protection orders and other civil legal matters, as well as a 24-hour crisis helpline. We work with our community to end domestic and sexual abuse by providing healthy relationships educational programs in our local schools. Response also provides vital housing support for survivors and their children. In 2025, Response’s Halle Center for Hope and Healing opened in Basalt, providing not only a new headquarters for our work, but also a 7 unit shelter that can provide housing to up to 9 adult survivors and 15 children at one time. Response also offers housing assistance to clients to help them achieve independent housing in our community. For survivors and their children, this program means the difference between another night of fear and the chance to finally feel safe. Response’s advocates walk alongside survivors as they begin to rebuild by offering transitional housing, rental assistance, and support with jobs, housing, and counseling. Every step is designed to help them move from crisis to stability, and from survival to true independence. By supporting Response, you give survivors not only safety but the hope and strength to imagine and achieve a future free from violence.

The Farm Collaborative is building a thriving, regenerative local food system in the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond. Through hands-on education, farmer training, and community programs, we cultivate healthy soil, strong connections, and food systems that promote human health and reverse climate change. • 0% Interest Loans (2Forks Club): We provide zero-interest loans to farms and food businesses, helping them grow, adopt regenerative practices, and strengthen the local food economy. • Earth Keepers and FarmYard and Me (ages 0-4): Hundreds of children each year connect to nature, food, and farming through immersive summer camps and school-year programs. • Farmers in T rain in g (ages 14-18) & Apprenticeships (18+): Aspiring farmers and apprentices gain real-world skills and mentorship to become resilient land stewards and food leaders. • Farm to Fridge: Each fall, we purchase over 4,000 pounds of local produce to provide free, fresh food to 1,500 community members in the Roaring Fork and North Fork Valleys. This CSA-style program supports farmers by extending the life of their harvest while nourishing families. • The Farm Co Market—operating up to 6 days a week year-round. Guided by 1 shared mission—”local first, regenerative always”—the market proudly hosts 25 local farmers and food entrepreneurs across 3 regional valleys. Together, these programs nurture future farmers, strengthen local food, promote health and connection, and regenerate the land we all depend on.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to inform, inspire and build community by fostering diverse and independent journalism.

Independent journalism is crucial to a functioning democracy, a healthy community and a shared social understanding. The Sopris Sun / Sol del Valle is the only bilingual, rural, community-based nonprofit newspaper in Colorado. As a nonprofit, we are very community-centric, providing a platform for creativity and traditionally underrepresented voices, including from our youth and Spanish speaking populations. We foster our relationship with the community through an active board of directors, a staff eager to work beyond their titles, an extraordinary pool of over 25 freelancers — some of whom write, photograph and illustrate in kind — and more. It’s truly a labor of love. Our youth journalism program, launched in 2021, takes high school students from throughout the valley and introduces them to the many aspects of putting together a newspaper, as well as important regional mentors. They learn about history, the evolution of technologies, interview skills, journalistic ethics, photography, deadlines, invoicing and more. Students are paid for each piece of published work.

UpRoot Colorado works to transform Colorado’s food system by addressing the interconnected and resolvable issues of food waste, food surplus, and nutrition insecurity through our Gleaning Program. “Gleaning” is the act of harvesting surplus crops and redistributing them to people in need. We collaborate with farmers, orchardists, and fruit tree stewards with surplus fruits and vegetables. We organize volunteers to help with the harvest, and partner with hunger-relief organizations to redistribute this fresh, locally-grown, and nutritious food to people in our communities who want and need it. UpRoot is the only organization working on agricultural surplus recovery at a statewide level in Colorado. Since 2017, UpRoot has gleaned more than 800,000 pounds–which equates to more than 9 million servings–of surplus, nutrient-dense food, increasing the amount of fresh produce available at Colorado hunger-relief agencies (where it is among the most highly requested items by people who rely on food pantries). In addition to reducing agricultural surplus and increasing access to nutritious food, UpRoot’s work creates opportunities for volunteers to learn about and connect with our local food system, increasing our collective understanding of and appreciation for our food and those who produce it.

YEAR ESTABLISHED

2016

MISSION STATEMENT

Amplifying voices through the arts.

Everyone has a story to tell, and everyone deserves a chance to be heard. VOICES transforms the true stories of local community members into meaningful connections by providing the page, stage, canvas, or microphone they need to share who they are with their neighbors. Our programs include In School residencies, On Stage original theatre productions, and In Community projects such as a storytelling podcast, story circles, and our traveling ARTery Tiny Stage series. In 2026, VOICES is celebrating 10 years of serving the community through programs that inspire confidence, engender compassion, and spur belonging. We seek to amplify the voices of everyone in our region, particularly youth, sages (75+ years), immigrants, women, and LGBTQ+ community members, while welcoming all who want to listen. We believe art can transcend boundaries, and that when personal stories are told through the arts, they have the power to strengthen mental health, education, and an empathetic community for everyone.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Will Roush

YEAR ESTABLISHED 1967

MISSION STATEMENT

Wilderness Workshop’s mission Is to protect the wilderness, water, and wildlife of Western Colorado’s public lands.

Founded in 1967, Wilderness Workshop works with communities across Western Colorado to protect the wilderness, water, and wildlife of our public lands. From the Continental Divide to the Colorado Plateau, we bring people together to understand what’s happening on the lands around us, speak up for the places they care about, and help shape their future.Across 8.5 million acres of public lands, we actively monitor and defend the lands, waters, wildlife, and habitats that communities across Western Colorado depend on. Working with the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and local and national partners, we bring decades of conservation experience and deep knowledge of land management, environmental review, and public policy to defend these places from industrial development, public land sell-offs, and efforts to weaken conservation protections, while advancing lasting protections, responsible stewardship, and access to the places people value. Your support makes this work possible. Every donation helps Wilderness Workshop stay engaged on the ground and at the table, from tracking threats to public lands and weighing in on land management decisions to bringing people together to care for the places they know and love. Colorado’s public lands belong to all of us. Together, we can help make sure they remain healthy, accessible, and protected for the communities and landscapes that depend on them. Get involved. Become a member, take action, or explore the landscapes we’re working to protect at wildernessworkshop.org. Participa.
