The Sopris Sun sees it all. How lucky are we?
Dear community,
Dear community,
Dear community,
Dear community,
As we round out the first half of 2025, The Sopris Sun invites you to take a look at our 2024 Annual Report, patiently compiled by our board and staff. It was a year of significant changes in the Valley, and our weekly nonprofit newspaper, together with Sol del Valle, worked tirelessly to cover it all.

New this year, we’re highlighting Sol del Valle coverage independently, beginning with the relaunch in June 28, 2024, when inserts were removed from The Sopris Sun and Aspen Daily News and energy was refocused on a standalone product published and distributed by The Sopris Sun. Come celebrate the relaunch of Sol del Valle with us this June 28 at the Glenwood Springs Library from 4 to 6pm. The free Fiesta del Sol event will feature music and dancing, food, prizes and a community resources fair.

As evidenced by our annual content inventory, The Sopris Sun and Sol del Valle are community-focused newspapers highlighting local creativity while informing our readers about the issues they most care about: our schools, environment, businesses and governments.
In 2024, The Sopris Sun also proudly joined the first Press Forward grantee cohort, benefitting from a national initiative to strengthen both nonprofit and for-profit newsrooms. Recent government policy shifts and downsizing has placed immense demands on private funders to bridge the resulting financial gaps for many nonprofits. In 2024, grants covered about 35% of our costs. Given the much greater demand for limited pools of money, we anticipate grants will account for only 15% of our $800,000 budget in 2025.
