Many people celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas with family and friends, inside a cozy house, next to a big Christmas tree, or munching on delicious food, but some people are not able to experience Thanksgiving and Christmas in the same way. This year, the Roaring Fork High School National Honor Society decided that it would be a good idea to help out the families and individuals in the valley that need a little extra support over the holidays. The National Honor Society at RFHS has chosen to create an angel tree. The angel tree is going to be set up at the Carbondale Branch Library with cards containing the age, gender, and preferred gift of someone in need. The cards will be hung on the tree allowing anyone from the community to take a card from the tree, purchase a gift for the person on the card, and return it to the Carbondale Library or Roaring Fork High School. The RFHS National Honors Society members will then collect the gifts, wrap them up, and deliver them to the families. The idea of the angel tree is to lend a helping hand to families that can not afford gifts for each other and hopefully give these families an extra smile over the holidays. Leader of the RFHS National Honor Society, Barbara Mason, said, “I came up with this idea because I saw it at Alpine Bank, and I decided it would be good for the club to do some-

thing beneficial for the community. It makes me feel good and makes me so happy to see kids from our school helping out the community. It’s like giving back, and it makes me so happy to see the change we’re bringing to the community.” All the members of the RFHS National Honor Society feel the same way as Mason does, and are very proud to see the club come together to help individuals out over the holidays. Lorenzo Andrade, a junior at RFHS and a member of the National Honor Society, said, “The angel tree project gives me a sense of fulfillment and happiness. It feels so good to know that I am helping out a child and family, and bringing a smile to their face over a holiday. That is so special.” The RFHS National Honor Society as a whole is excited to be helping out in the community and hopes to be able to make some family’s holiday seasons just a little bit brighter.
