Saturday, May 18, 2024
@3:00pm
The United Baptist Church Annandale, VA

Thank you for joining us this afternoon to support The Arc of Northern Virginia, a 61-year-old non-profit organization working to promote and protect the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities!
Our program today focuses on uplifting and inspiring stories of persistence despite attempts to stifle boldness, finding hope and joy in the face of fear, and reaching for the unreachable stars!
If this is your first Sopranessence experience, you’re in for a treat! Our performances are made to break the stereotype of classical music being stuffy and distant. One of the fun ways we do this is by unconventionally taking melodies, typically sung by one voice, and trading off musical lines like runners in a relay race. Or maybe we’ll “mash” together a couple of songs and see what new story evolves. It’s all about having fun with music and bringing you, our audience, along for the ride!
We sincerely hope you enjoy today’s performance. Be sure to join our email list (scan the QR code below) or follow us on Facebook, Instagram or YouTube (search for Sopranessence) so you can stay updated on our 2024-25 season, when we’ll celebrate our 10th Anniversary!
We’d love to welcome you to our growing group of supporters. If you take any pictures at today’s show, please share them and tag Sopranessence when you post so we can give you a shoutout. We love hearing from our friends and supporters on social media!
Wishing you a wonderful Summer!

I feel a rush of joy in my bosom, which announces delight in the midst of my fears. We hope that the trouble will end happily - Fate and Love are not always tyrants. Sometimes goodness is born from pain. When one believes the danger is the greatest, an even greater calm shines forth.

Always left to stoke the fire…a barbaric life. While my sisters go to parties with their father, I remain to sigh alone. Yet, I had a blissful dream – my fate changed, and maybe I’ll be happy tonight! Every woman will die of envy! No longer can they call me the little ash-girl. I’ll be as beautiful as Venus, have fancy clothes, diamonds and a crowd of suitors falling at my feet! But, I have to stay and stoke the fire. Love tells me not to tremble.
