Founded by conductor and composer Brent Chancellor, LUX, in collaboration with Carnegie Hall’s Link Up and South Orange Performing Arts Center, presents a new vision for classical music specifically aimed at inspiring young audiences. LUX merges high-energy performance, dynamic lighting, and synchronized projections to introduce students to the orchestra in a uniquely engaging way.

You will interact with the liveliest of lecturers and encounter all kinds of problems and puzzles, unlocking your magical powers as you go.

The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System

NJ Poetry Out Loud Region 5 Competition

Poetry Out Loud (POL) is a national poetry recitation program sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation for students in grades 9-12, traditionally designed for public, charter, parochial school and homeschool teachers. For the 8th year, SOPAC hosts the Region 5 (Essex and Union counties) NJ POL Competition.

POL encourages students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. During the competition, not only do they share their interpretation and delivery of poetry; they also vie for awards and scholarships totaling $50,000. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life.

Among the many featured skills are fantastic fog-filled bubble sculptures, a cube bubble, funky foam, a big band bubble concerto, trapping an audience member (or two?) inside a gigantic soap bubble and much more!
