sada, località 100 km a sud di Gerusalemme, dove, dalla fortezza di Erode, si possono ancora osservare i segni lasciati dagli accampamenti dell’esercito romano.

Passeggiare per le strade di Gerusalemme vuol dire ritracciare una storia millenaria e una storia di popoli che è ancora viva, nel ricordo, nelle usanze, nei monumenti di questa città mistica.

I simboli ebraici si mescolano alle effigi turche, alla iconografia cristiana e alla tradizione araba, nello spettacolo di un luogo unico al mondo dove la convivenza non si risolve solo nei simboli, ma anche nella vita quotidiana: agli ebrei ortodossi si affiancano musulmani e cristiani, in un vitale riflesso dei quartieri di Gerusalemme.

Dalle rovine della cittadella, nella parte più a ovest della città vecchia, si ammirano centri e chiese cristiani, la splendida moschea nota come Cupola della Roccia, secondo alcuni l’edificio islamico più antico al mondo, e sinagoghe: tutto a pochi metri l’uno dall’altro.

Fra le stradine che si diramano fra i vari quartieri si raggiungono due delle principali attrazioni della città: il Muro del Pianto e la Chiesa del Santo Sepolcro.
