WILLOW WAY
Academic : University at Buffalo Semester : Spring 2020 Studio : Ecological Practices Project : Group Professor : Joyce Hwang Location : Silo city, Buffalo
NEW NATURE This studio explores the design of a Willow way as a means to investigate the incorporation of various technologies. A project collaborated with regidized metals for silo city. An intervention at silo city showcasing coalescence of architecture and landscaping on the structure. To work proactively and cooperatively through different design- build phases of a project to produce ecological interventions at silo city. Initially, the project was designed by a team in fall 2019 and was hoped to get constructed by the 2020 spring semester, but when the design got finalized, there were still some challenges regarding the construction.
The project has an apparent morphology, but still left certain unanswered this studio gave us the chance to explore and critical analysis about the project. In the 2020 Spring, In the guidance of professor Joyce Hwang being part of the studio allowed me to explore testing materials, assemblies, site analysis, and shop drawings. Volunteering in 2020 summer and as well as fall in guidance of professor Nick Rajkovich, I worked as a volunteer in assisting the construction of willow way.

Team Fall 2020 Sonali, yukta, sneha, katie and Christa
An axonometric diagram illustrates the location of exterior end points of the three different funnels. To confirm the exterior points of the structure of Funnel A, B, and C. As we know, the center point of the plan and the center of interior foundations i.e the center of the funnel, exterior end points are marked using the triangulation method. The slide shows the marking drawings of all the exterior end points of Funnel A. Team Fall 2020 Sonali
Lateral Bracing
To prevent the structure from bending or deforming, our next motive was to focus on lateral bracing. By eliminating horizontal members, we were able to achieve the amount of triangulation that the lateral bracing does create some diamonds shapes, but they are surrounded by triangles on all sides, providing adequate strength and support to the structure. Lateral Bracing Plan Team Fall 2020 Sonali and Yukta
Mechanical connection - 58 joints Lashing connection - 1267 joints 3/4” x 12’ 5/8” x 20’ 5/8” x 12’ + 5/8” x 20’
Moving forward about thestructure from the perspective of joineries, we worked on the lateral bracing and considering three different joineries, mechanical or welded and lashing tried to resolve it accordingly on the basis of the required strength.

AREA OF INTERVENTION In 2020, the entire world was hit by the pandemic and many uncontrollable situations were formed. This is not the first time we are facing such a pandemic. We have experienced a similar situation before, so why COVID 19 is different, only because of the rapid state of spreading and no cure till now. We have two areas of intervention. One is controlling the rate of spreading, and another is the invention of a cure. As a designer, our preference is to contribute in a wise way for the community.
There is one effective way of prevention, that is social distancing or proximity. This is effective but difficult to maintain everywhere. Through this project, an approach has been made to cater to this problem. In situated technology studio, our motive was to explore alternative ways for controlling the rate of spreading with the help of using Arduino and implementing different sensors to create a virtual boundary around the user.

No it’s not a Box It’s a wearable accessory that you can carry as a bag or attach to your bag. A device that will alert the user to create a virtual boundary around. If there is a probability of violating someone’s boundary or if the user is entering a crowded place, it will light up when a person enters on the interpersonal zones. Scgematic Diagram Gnd

TWENTY RESTORATIVE ACTS OF ARCHITECTURE The studio focused on architectural representation creating drawing and model making as a strategy that can effectively convince the audience about the new possibilities in the future that doesn’t exist. Reflecting the year 2020 in different ways and then creating our own idea for a project that will be located in UB south campus which is inspired by our own thoughts from the past year and vision which lies ahead.
Recalling events of 2020 in various different ways and analysising and channeling them to create a drawing.Through this studio I explore how to express emotions, experience in abstract way. The studio helped me focused and challanged my idea towards more creative and abstract ideas. Using lines and shapes to make something feel the way you want it to, it does not need to look like something realistic.

My Highlighted Emotions If someone will ask me, how was my 2020? I would say quite conflicting with all the roller coaster ride of emotions.I represented my feelings in a short story where my enjoyment turned into boredom. Twenty Twenty It felt like a perfect year in the beginning of twenty twenty. I stayed at my aunt’s place for twenty days.. Boy! I ate twenty Indian dishes after being away from home for twenty weeks. I went to the largest aquarium in the world watched a twenty minute dolphin show. It felt like a perfect year for having fun in twenty twenty. Celebrated my friend birthday on twentieth January with twenty friends. That night was the only night when we were happy and free.. the freedom only lasted for twenty seven days in the year of twenty twenty .. Twenty twenty went on a fast-track mode… aha ah!! Yeah, we were safe, confused, and lonely at some time. It was miserable, we sanitized and washed our hands twenty times a day forgot about our normal lives. Now, it was time to adapt the new normal after twenty weeks.. ah ah!! I don’t know about you but I’m feeling twenty twenty introduced us to normal new. It felt like a perfect year in the beginning of twenty twenty.

The Look During 2020, I felt like a warrior, and I guess everybody did. Upcoming through all the emotions which were taking place. Getting inspired by thoughts and feelings made me wonder if I wanted to look for myself. It will be something that speaks for the courage conflicting and perplexing feelings.
The look represents a different interpretation for every aesthetic. The crown on the head as the Survivor, the overlaying of geometric shapes represent the merging of the feelings, slit speaks for the courage, claws for warrior and, at last, the wings for an escape. The World 2020 felt like an endless level. This is looking inside the mind of the wearer where there are different levels In Figure 1, it shows how can confidently she is looking down and the world and understands it In the Figure 2, when she looks up at the same world, it’s confusing like a maze.

BIRD BLIND In Fall 2019, after lockdown due to covid-19 class turned online and the construction of willow way was suspended and this project was reappraised again. Rigidized Metals asked for proposals to incorporate a design strategy to replace the plywood box that now covers the pond water circulation pump. A structure for observation situated over the pump, which worked with the topography of the existing berms and allowed the path to run through the structure.
The structure’s proximity to the water led to its intended purpose to be a bird blind, allowing photographers to take shots of birds with the silos in the background for a truly unique shot. A large quantity of out of commission grain scoops used at one time in the machinery housed by the silos were provided to us, to find a way to reuse them in building a bird blind in the site of silo city.
Salvaged Materials
Paying homage to Silo City’s history as a site of grain processing, Panelled Views seeks to r epurpose the large amount of grain scoops to the fullest extent possible as construction materials. Organization

Aesthetics
1- The scoops are interlocked with other pieces and thereby yield open spaces are provided 2- Opting for a simple geometric strusture made the formation of the panel through the scoops interesting
Usage of scoops
1- The scoops serve as a permeable partition between the observer and the flora and fauna of the site. 2- The contrasting color add value to the aesthetic of the structure. 3- Use of climbers and vegetation on the surface will help to attract the birds. 4- This may also help them with their nesting.

Academic : University at Buffalo Semester : Fall 2019 Studio : Comprehensive Studio Project : Cultural Professor : Kenneth Mackay
GALLERY SPACE This studio explore the design of a Gallery Complex as a means to investigate the incorportation of various technologies into the integrated design of a builindg. The contemporary builing includes a vast array of system: structural, heating, ventilating, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, envelope and enclosure. In a public each of these systems contributes to the creation of an artifical environment which facilates human comfort, social interaction and life safety.
The same design intent reflects in the planning. The gallery blocks are overlooking the canal outside thereby creating an ambience which lets the visitors feel the nature outside. The outside view helps break the monotony of the solid space that the visitors feel in a gallery, ultimately enhancing the viewer experience.
Orchitecture Origami, an ancient japenese technique, uses folds, creases and; geomertical forms to create a visual art form. Drawing inspiration from the same, the roof structure has been developed rationally to enhance the visual experience of the visitors.
Origami has been increasingly used in other aspects of design like structure in many upcoming projects around the world.
1. Flat unit cell
2. Half molded cell
The main theme of the design is to enhance the human experience of viewing in an art gallery. Taking a cue from the same, the wall surface and ceiling is given as unconvential form based on Origami technique.
3. Standard molded cell Oriagmi Roof- This projects attempts to take the defining elements of origami folding and implement them on as a structural aproach to create roof design as well as used on the builing.

Professional : 10 Decimal Design studio Project Type : Office Space Location : Greater Noida Year : 2018
PUBLIC SPACE The project focused on the proposal received from the client for having a separate registration and office secretariat block for the newly constructed halls in the Indian Expo Mart Limited campus. To minimize the footprint on the first floor and more spill-over areas, the roof of an existing s ervice block near the site was also integrated with the new block area. The inspiration for the design of the fort court of the building is taken from the ghats of Varanasi. It is envisioned to be an interactive community space for the project.
The series of pavillions takes the visitor from first to Second-floor level, appreciating the a ctivities on each level and building a sub-conscious interaction with brands, products, and technologies displayed on the pavillions. The walls with the pavillions acts as backdrops for various activities and can be suitably used for the branding or advertisement. COMMERCIAL, RESIDENTIAL, OFFICE DESIGN The Urban Design problem was to design a mixed use that included commercial residential and office spaces. As per the design instructions a larger portion of F.A.R is dedicated for commercial spaces followed by the residential and then the office spaces. Mixed-use developments are pedestrian-friendly complexes or buildings athat blend two or nore residential, commercial, cultural, institutional and industrial uses.
Four benefits of mixed- use developments 1- Urban Renewal 2- Placemaking 3- Reactivating underutilized space 4- Reduction of traffic, parking needs and pollution

HOME FOR FAMILY The project is a private residence designed for a family of 6 includes a middle-aged couple with a young couple and a girl in her teenage. The project focused on increasing the space of the existing house by not demolishing the whole structure and preserving it as per client requirements. The demolishing was done to give large spaces in comparison to earlier planning. The planning was done while keeping Vastu shastra in mind (Hindu feng shui).
The project gave me a chance to enhance my knowledge about structure modifications and different concept building throughout the project. The project was completed in November 2019 with further modifications in the planning and structure.

DOME Academic : University at Buffalo Semester : Fall 2019 Subject : Structures Project : Group Topic : Study of Dome Professor : Christophar Romano
MOUNDS The class explores to understand the material and a structure that they aee intrinsically linked. it develop am intuitive understanding and deep respect for the physical laws of nature such as balance, density, mass, weight, gravity, and compression. The motive was to develop a tacit understanding of material properties through didactic and empirical experimentation.
The project requirement was to design a minimally reinforced dome structure that fits the given criteria 38”L x 38”W x 12-22”H. The motive was to build up an intutive understand of why structures work and why things break, to learn through failure.
Formwork Process 1/8” Steel rods
18 gauge almunium wire
44”x 44” ply board 1.5” steel plate
Geometric Description: The ribs are generated by providing tension at the ends and supported with the help of ply planks. Multiple ribs are overlapped on each other and an elliptical dome is produced. The formwork for doubly curvature dome is stiffened with the help of 18 gauge aluminum wire and the ribs are drilled to the base of the plywood.
Material Data: Dimensional Data: 1. Portland cement : 4 liters 1. Dimensions: 38” diameter 2. Coarse sand: 8 litres 2. Thickness: 0,25” 3. Expanded glass (aggregate): 4 liters 3. Volume (in3): 14940 4. Water: 5.5 liters 4. Weight (lbs): 30947 5. Burlap 5. Surface area (Sq. ft): 214
