‘Not how The Galaxy you treat is at her people’ feet Highway petition in parliament A PETITION with nearly 11,000 signatures opposing the proposed Stage 4 of the Bruce Highway Western Alternative has been tabled in Parliament. Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell, tabled the petition on Tuesday, following months of grassroots activity raising concerns about the impact of the proposed routes. Residents of East Caboolture, Elimbah and Moodlu were at risk of housing resumptions, with many incensed at what they saw was a lack of legitimate consultation with the community by Transport and Main Roads. Over 500 submissions

were also received. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday evening, Mr Powell said: “I stand before you on behalf of the resilient and tight-knit communities of Moodlu, Caboolture East, and Elimbah, whose voices are raised, not in opposition to progress, but in defence of their homes, their farms, our environment, and our heritage.” The tabling of the petition was the culmination of almost three months of community efforts to communicate and bring awareness to the impacts the road proposal would have on locals and residents. Mr Powell said: “This is not how you treat people.” Full story p3

Local push for council AN “attachment and love of the region as it changes and grows” has led to Michael Bishop nominating as a councillor for the Somerset Regional Council at the upcoming election. Mr Bishop has resided in the Somerset region for the past 10 years, while his family has had an association with Glamorgan

Vale and Lark Hill for about a century. “My early childhood was spent on farms around the Kingaroy area where my grandparents had a newsagency in the main street for 25 years,” Mr Bishop said. “My mum was a nurse and it seemed only right that she taught our family to be compassionate.” Story p5
