SCSD will strengthen and nurture connections across the Somers community through engagement, constructive partnerships and the inclusion of all voices.

Community Involvement

There are countless ways the greater community supports the Somers Central School District’s mission to educate the whole child. Groups and individuals generously give their time, resources, and expertise to share a wide variety of experiences with students.

Family Engagement

Engaging families in our schools is important for promoting student success and creating a positive school culture. When family members participate in school events, deep family-schoolstudent connections are forged and those partnerships support children’s wellness and academic development.

SCSD Vision 2030

This year, the district reviewed and recommitted to SCSD’s mission, vision, and collective commitments to ensure that we, as a district and a community, have consensus on how we are moving forward in excellence in Somers schools. District and school leaders gathered input from dozens of parents on the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA), and the Community Pulse Coalition, as well as from students and teachers. At each workshop, participants were guided through a process to explore their hopes for the future of the district. Each group produced a visual representation to identify their aspirations for SCSD in the years to come.

After the process of discussion and reflection, the consensus was that the district should continue with its current mission: to ignite a passion in each student by engaging all learners at a personal level to ensure success in a global society. The discussions also identified a few areas of opportunity, including additional emphasis on fiscal stewardship as well as family and community engagement.
