Guild Fundraisers VENDOR

Our mission is to make a difference by identifying the community’s health and wellness needs while bridging the gap between those needs and the cost of the solutions.

The SOMC Development Foundation encompasses fundraising efforts for Hospice, Cancer, Employee Relief, Heart & Vascular, Pediatrics, Community Health and Wellness, the Endowment Fund and the areas of greatest need.

These funds generate much needed support and enable SOMC to continually deliver extraordinary care for future generations to come. We consider it our responsibility to serve our community and we take pride in doing so.

Recently Approved Projects Car seats for children in need at our pediatric offices Pediatric Fund

SOMC Cancer Center and Breast Services recognized National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the second annual Light it Pink Lantern Launch.

The community gathered at the Hill View Retirement Center pond to decorate lanterns and launch them in memory of or in honor of those who have been impacted by cancer.

Hope lanterns were also launched to wish for a cure.

Our New Fund

We appreciate all who came and supported the event! It was a beautiful evening with an even greater meaning celebrating loved ones who have fought or are fighting cancer. Proceeds from the t-shirts sold went directly to the SOMC Breast Cancer Compassion Fund.

Diabetic education library for the public Juvenile Diabetes Fund

Tens of thousands of families across the United States are devastated each year by the death of their baby. The SOMC Development Foundation created the Nursery Bereavement Fund to help relieve whatever pain these families maybe experiencing.

Clothing items for sexual assault victims and trauma patients in the ER Annual Fund

as Perinatal Bereavement Kits, pamphlets, books, keepsake impressions, keepsake memory box, photo access and burial outfits as well as a possible burial fund for families who are experiencing an additional financial stress or burden with burial expenses.

Join Our Coat Drive This winter, give the gift of warmth to a child in need. Please join us in collecting new coats to give local students who may not have a coat otherwise.

The SOMC Development Foundation is partnering with local schools to distribute coats to any child that may need one. You too can join our cause and help!

Our goal is to collect a total of 750 coats. Coats will be collected between now and Dec. 6th.

We have a few different options on how you can get involved:

Donor Spotlight: on the Importance of Giving Back Sam McKibbin is a prominent radio personality in Portsmouth, OH. He has served for 21 years at the local station, WNXT. Sam is also a retired United States Air Force, Navy and National Guard veteran, where he served a total of 32 years. Amongst his other accomplishments are teaching newswriting and reporting and also creative writing for nearly 10 years.

Today, Sam has added to his impressive resume by giving back to the community; one specific way he has done this is by giving to and through SOMC. Sam has ties to SOMC through friendships, including Mary Arnzen of the SOMC Development Foundation, but also the closest tie of all is his beloved wife, Jeanette, of 45 years who worked at SOMC for 27 years. From his late wife’s dedication to the organization and through his friendships,

he decided he wanted to support SOMC and become a Legacy Society Member. From there, he found a passion for supporting SOMC Hospice.

“We obviously need [a hospice center],” he said as he noted how many areas around Portsmouth do not offer this type of facility.

Sam served on the SOMC Hospice Board in its first few years of operation, and that is where he said he fell in love with the facility and the service being offered at SOMC. “The Hospice Fund is my favorite [SOMC Development Foundation] fund because of all the good that it does,” he said.

Sam said he finds being involved in the community important because he lives by the motto of being kind to people and doing what you can to fill a need. He encourages others to not only be kind, but to be honest,
