William McKinley advocated for the SOMC Hospice Center long before the blueprints were drafted.

He knew the benefits it would bring to the community were endless. When campaigning to build the inpatient hospice center began in 2006, he was a huge promoter of the project, so much so that he donated in support of the project in memory of family members. He had the lobby, the family kitchen and the nurses station all named in memory of his mother, Octavia McKinley, RN, and the conference room named in memory of his aunt, Ruth McKinley Malone, RN.

Eventually, William saw his advocacy come to fruition as the inpatient hospice center served many families from the community to the point where there began a discussion of the expansion of the hospice center. He once again supported this project to help even more families in need. He sponsored the nurses’ station in the new ad-

dition in memory of both his mother, Octavia McKinley, and his aunt, Ruth McKinley Malone.

William also sponsored the beautiful donor wall that hangs in the main lobby of the hospice center. He did so to honor all the donors of this project who helped turn his long-time dream for the community into a reality.

William says he loves supporting the SOMC Hospice Inpatient Center because he knows how necessary it is for a community to have access to such an excellent facility with just as outstanding care. He says it has turned out to be the #1 charity in Scioto County that blesses everybody from the hills to the hollers.

He lives by a quote close to his heart that his mother always said, which is also proudly displayed on the donor wall: “If a feller can’t help a feller when a feller needs a feller, then he ain’t much of a feller.”

Our mission is to make a difference by identifying the community’s health and wellness needs while bridging the gap between those needs and the cost of the solutions.

The SOMC Development Foundation encompasses fundraising efforts for Hospice, Cancer, Employee Relief, Heart & Vascular, Pediatrics, Community Health and Wellness, the Endowment Fund and the areas of greatest need. These funds generate much needed support and enable SOMC to continually deliver extraordinary care for future generations to come.
