INSIDE: HOMETOWN HEROES WINNERS, 4A Legal fees, landfill and raises top BOC agenda MERIS LUTZ mlutz@covnews.com

Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting was dominated by spirited discussions of the county’s legal spending, the citizen landfill committee and employee raises. Commissioner Nancy Schulz voted against approving the financial report after voicing frustration with the board’s lack of planning regarding legal costs, which were supposed to be discussed at a retreat in January that was cancelled. According to the financial report, legal services are at 139.3 percent of budget, with County Attorney Tommy Craig billing the county more than$800,000 so far this fiscal year. That does not include external legal services for issues such as the landfill.
