DOGS OF BURBERRY
![]()
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the adoption of dogs and cats increased globally by 250%, with a main contributor to this number being UK households. However, one week before Freedom Day, Dogs Trust saw a 39% increase in phone calls to hand over dogs that owners no longer wanted.
This number is continuing to increase year-on-year and according to the RSPCA, rehoming has dropped 8% while animal intake is up 8.4%. Only 17% of owners adopt their dogs from shelters and rescues which has led to an 9.4% increase in the average stay for a dog in a rescue shelter. This constant pressure on shelters is continuing to increase due to the cost of living crisis, which has impacted pet owners’ ability to afford their pets. As a result, Dogs Trust has reported a 48% increase in re-homing enquiries in the past year.
Burberry For Dogs is a campaign aiming to raise awareness of the issues that dog rescue centres in the United Kingdom are facing currently. Celebrating the charm and uniqueness of each dog, Burberry hopes to go beyond the realms of conventional fashion and beauty campaigns, by showcasing that beauty truly does come in all forms, shapes, and sizes.
The Border Terrier edition features 20 border terrier dogs from rescue centres around the United Kingdom. These are all available for adoption on our charity partners websites.
Burberry have partnered with Dogs Trust and RSPCA for this campaign. All proceeds from purhcases of this lookboook will be donated equally to these charities.
