ALTRINCHAM

Bradley Stevenson's equaliser was enough for the Moors to draw 1-1 against Altrincham in the FA Cup, forcing a replay at Damson Park.

In the fourth minute, a loose clearance nearly allowed Regan Linney a shot on goal, but the ball ricocheted out of play.

In the tenth minute, Altrincham had their first chance of the game as Alex Newby picked out Tom Crawford, six yards from goal. His header though was straight at Laurie Walker

Five minutes later, the hosts were awarded a penalty after Kahrel Reddin was brought down in the area. Linney stepped up and converted from 12 yards to make it 1-0.

On 19 minutes, Finn Howell played Conor Wilkinson through on goal after some good play from the Moors Wilkinson tried to shift the ball onto his left foot, but the Altrincham defender did enough to block the shot.

In the 25th minute, Jack Stevens floated a cross on the left-hand side and was met by Marcel Oakley at the far post, but his header went just wide of Ethan Ross’ goal.

Three minutes later, Newby sent a cross from the right-hand side towards Linney, but the striker’s header went over the bar.

In the second half, the Moors had a majority of the ball but could not break down the stubborn Altrincham defence.

On 65 minutes, Stevens was played through on the left-hand side before cutting the ball back for Sam Bowen, whose left-footed shot was blocked by the Altrincham defence.

Two minutes later, Altrincham broke on the counterattack with Newby cutting inside on his left foot, before curling an effort wide of Walker’s goal.

On 71 minutes, the Moors equalised through Bradley Stevenson.

A long throw in from Jamey Osborne was flicked on by Tunnicliffe towards Stevenson, before he controlled the ball and fired a shot past Ethan Ross into the far corner and make it 1-1

Six minutes later, a short corner from the Moors saw John Bostock with space to shoot from 25 yards out, but his effort was straight at Ross.

A minute later, the Moors broke on the counterattack with Joe Newton leading the charge before he passed the ball into Wilkinson, but his shot was saved by Ross

On 79 minutes, Ross was called into action again to deny a second Moors goal, as the ball found Stevenson on the edge of the box, but the goalkeeper did enough to stop the shot before the Altrincham defence cleared.

Rotherham United staged a stunning fightback to come from 3-0 down to beat Solihull Moors and reach the FA Cup third round.

The National League side looked set to reach round three for the first time in their history when Jimmy Ball tapped in just after the hour following early goals from Jamey Osborne and Alex Gudger.

But the Millers, who had previously barely threatened, scored four times in the final 14 minutes to turn the tie on its head.

Freddie Ladapo started the comeback when he side-footed home before Michael Ihiekwe curled in to give the League One side hope.

Michael Smith then twice headed in crosses by fellow-substitute Chiedozie Ogbene to earn Rotherham a dramatic victory and secure a home tie against Championship side Hull City.

WELCOME

Welcome to Damson Park, Altrincham!

We’d like to thank all the visiting Alty supporters who have made the 88 mile trip to the West Midlands for this evening’s match.

MEET THE BOSS

Phil Parkinson was appointed on 28 April 2017, the eve of the last game of the 2016-17 season in which Altrincham had been relegated to the Northern Premier League. Phil enjoyed promotion from the NPL as champions in his first season and reached the play-offs in 2018-19 in National League North before wining promotion to the National League via the play-offs in 2020. On 9 April 2021 it was announced that his contract had been extended to the end of the 2023-24 season.

ONES TO WATCH

Altrincham significantly increased their goal threat in February 2023 after signing free-scoring striker Regan Linney from FC United of Manchester for an undisclosed fee. Alty bosses had been monitoring the 26-year old centre-forward's unstoppable form on a regular basis and are delighted to have secured the signature of a player who has been consistently lethal in his four seasons at Broadhurst Park.

Alex Newby joined Altrincham on a permanent deal from Colchester United in January 2024.

The forward originally signed on loan at the J.Davidson Stadium in September and made an instant impact scoring within minutes of his debut against Ebbsfleet United.
