Range of Courses We have almost 50 courses for students to choose from. The largest part of our provision are A level and A level equivalent courses, which are assessed by examinations at the end of two years of study. Our Applied Pathway and T level courses involve more coursework than A levels, but also include some external assessment.

Each student is allocated to a Personal Development set headed by an academic coach who, in most cases, will be associated with a student for the duration of their college experience. Personal Development is timetabled weekly and covers a range of topics from study skills to being future ready for progression into higher education, apprenticeships or employment, and society. All students will meet their academic coach for one-to-ones over the two years.

Summit Base Camp Solihull Sixth Form College is part of the Summit Learning Trust, which aims to scale new heights for its children, young people and communities. The Summit Base Camp offer exists to ensure all learners have their basic needs met to enable them to achieve the highest levels of academic progress whilst being provided with a rich educational experience.

our campus located in the heart of solihull... Situated on the edge of Brueton Park, the campus is tranquil and picturesque, with our Library and Learning Centre looking out over sports fields and a nature reserve beyond, which is ideally suited to study. The campus is divided into curriculum areas, with the facilities in those areas set up specifically for those subjects, with specialist resources like science laboratories, art workshops, drama studios, multi-media language labs, media suites and much more. PCs and Apple Macs with industry standard software are also available to aid learning and prepare students for what to expect in the world of work.

Brueton Home to Drama, Modern Languages and Enrichment Music, this area boasts specialist studios, rehearsal rooms and even a recording studio.

Art & Design School Two floors of this building are devoted to Art & Design, with facilities to suit the aspiring artist no matter what medium they want to use for their artwork. The lower ground floor also provides classrooms for Health and Social Care and T level Education & Early Years.

Malvern This building is home to Additional Learning Support, with quiet study spaces available for those learners who would benefit from an area away from the busier library and Learning Resource Centre. There are also classrooms for Sport and Health.

Hamilton Built with 100% recycled materials during the lockdown in 2020, this building is home to Chemistry and Applied Science. There is also an IT study centre on the top floor, which students use for their weekly Supervised Study session.

Turvey Our newest building, which opened in November 2024, is the home of Psychology. A net zero building, it has both the environment and learning at its heart.

Blythe Home to Accounting, Business, English and Law, as well as Applied Business, many of the classrooms were refurbished in recent years to give students top-quality facilities.
Claire Hicks Sports Centre This building boasts a large sports hall for basketball, netball and other recreational activities, a fitness suite that is free for students to use outside of lesson time and changing rooms. The sports hall is also where the majority of learners will sit their examinations.

Refectory Two food outlets and a Starbucks coffee bar provide a wide range of hot and cold food for students to enjoy, with vegetarian, vegan, halal and kosher options available. With plenty of seating, the Refectory is a focal point for learners to meet with friends outside of their lessons. The Help Desk in the entrance to the Refectory is staffed to ensure students can always get assistance if they need it.
travel Our Widney Manor Road campus is walking distance from Solihull town centre and serviced by two train stations and multiple buses from all over the region. The number 5 bus stops just outside the college driveway. There is a covered area to store bicycles. We actively encourage students to travel by public transport or bicycle, or to walk where possible.

FACE - TO - FACE TEACHING Students undertake 4.5 hours of face-to-face teaching time each week for each subject they take. This equates to 13.5 hours for students on a 3 A level or Applied Pathway/ T level equivalent programme or 18 hours for those studying 4 A levels.
START OF THE DAY The college day starts at 9.00am and goes on until 4.05pm, except for Thursdays when lessons finish at 3.30pm.
BREAK TIME There is a 15-minute break in the morning and the lunch break is 40-45 minutes long. Lunch is staggered for Year 12 and Year 13 to ensure the refectory is not over-crowded.
INTERVENTION 30-minute intervention slots have been added to the timetable on set days to allow teachers to provide one-to-one support. You must make sure you are available at these times. Intervention exists to help students achieve their potential and is compulsory if you are directed to attend by your teachers.
ENRICHMENT A dedicated 60-minute session for enrichments has been put into the timetable on Wednesday afternoons to ensure that all students can access a variety of enrichment options.
INDEPENDENT STUDY ACADEMIC COACHING Time is also allocated for personal development seminars and supervised study each week and students will have one-to-one meetings with their academic coach to discuss progress.

You will have time each week without timetabled commitments. Taking responsibility for your learning means you decide what to do with this time. Many students make use of the Learning Resource Centre and library to complete independent study, as we expect students to complete as much time working outside of lessons as you do face-to-face with your teachers.

Going on the Team Gambia trip in 2023 was a highlight of my time at the college. The opportunity to experience a new culture and volunteer abroad was a oncein-a-lifetime chance. I also really enjoyed meeting a new and diverse range of people at college, as well as the greater level of independence.

While at the college, Hana was Chair of Student Council and undertook the Team Gambia enrichment, which saw her raising money for a school in West Africa, before travelling to The Gambia to teach the children in that school for a week.

The college consistently sees approximately three quarters of students attaining places at their first-choice university. Away from higher education, we assist students to progress onto other highly desirable destinations, including the very competitive higher apprenticeship and sponsored degree programmes and some go straight into employment.

For most, that is university with an 88.2% acceptance rate being well above the UCAS national figures for all applicants. Students progress to a variety of higher education providers. The percentage of students getting offers from a Russell Group university in 2025, including Oxford and Cambridge, was more than 28%, which is also above the national average.

INTRODUCING
Rohan Rana Rohan came to the college from Langley School. After achieving straight A* grades in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Further Maths, he earned a place at the University of Oxford to study Engineering. While at the college, Rohan benefited from the Stretch & Challenge programme, which provided him and other high achieving students with the opportunity to think beyond the syllabus.
I enjoyed the learning facilities and the relationships that I built with my teachers. I got some very useful support for my Oxbridge application from teachers and my academic coach and I am very grateful for that support. Rohan Rana

Entry Requirements All our courses are Level 3 qualifications. As such, students must achieve a certain level of academic attainment in order to join the college. We have set our entry requirements at this level because we believe that if you have achieved these grades you are prepared for the challenge of advanced level study and should start your courses with us with confidence. Enrol
After GCSE results, book your enrolment slot and bring your results and ID with you. We will check your results meet any subject specific requirements, discuss enrichments you want to add to your programme and give you everything you need to be ready to come to college.

Attend Preparation for College Day which will help ensure that you are able to get off to a really good start at SSFC when lessons start.

Here is what to expect f We will invite you (by email) to come into
college for an interview. Your interview will last around 15 minutes. You are welcome to bring a parent/guardian along, but most students sit their interview alone. Dress code is smart casual and most students wear school uniform. You will be given a date and time to attend.
f Your interviewer will be a teacher or a
member of support staff. You will find them to be friendly, easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. They will talk through your subject choices and your plans for the future.

f The interviewer will explain the entry
requirements to you, including whether the courses you have chosen require additional subject-specific grades at GCSE.
f All being well, we hope to be able to make
you an offer there and then and this will be emailed to you.
f Our interviewer will tell you about some of
the other opportunities available to you at the college. For example, we run some specialist enrichments, geared towards specific courses and careers, which might boost your prospects after college (see page 7).

All the offers we make are conditional on students getting the required grades. As such, enrolment takes place after you have received your GCSE results.

Enrolling at College

Here is what to expect f We will write to you over the summer.
The letter will tell you how to complete your enrolment and the Enrolment Guide should answer any questions you may have.
f GCSE results are published at the end of
August. On the same day, you should upload your exam results and book your enrolment appointment online. Enrolment takes place in person at the end of August and you will be able to choose your appointment time.
f You should not book holidays at the end of
August or beginning of September. Students who do not attend their enrolment interview will jeopardise their place at college unless they have informed us and arranged an alternative date.

f Make sure you have all the paperwork you
will need to enrol. This includes evidence of your ID (passport or birth certificate) and evidence of all your exam results (including any taken early.) Bring those into college at your appointed date and time. These must be original documents and not photocopies.
f At your enrolment appointment, you will have
a short interview to make sure your choice of subjects are still appropriate and that you meet the grade requirements. You will be given an enrolment confirmation letter, detailing your programme of study and the date of your Preparation for College Day in September.
f Preparation for College Day is a compulsory
part of your enrolment and takes place on campus on 2 or 3 September 2027.
f The start of full-time teaching will be on
Monday 6 September 2027. It is absolutely vital that you start lessons on this date and we cannot accept absence for any reasons other than serious ill-health or an emergency.
