Hey folks, I am Chanpreet Singh, your ESS co-President. I am a 5th yr software engineering coop student, sadly who is going to graduate coming June. I grew up in Dubai and came to Canada as a student in 2018, what a remarkable journey it has been ever since. I am still learning skiing as it was a significant shift coming from the desert, however, I have grown fond of camping in the Rockies, going on trails and discovering new places. I never thought in my early years that I will be leading ESS one day, however now that I have the chance to do so, thus I am going to give my best to give you all the campus experience that you deserve after all these covid years. Make sure you get out and give time to yourself as school can get quite tough but you will make it as I did.

What is a secret skill that you have?

A secret trick, I can read minds and people in general. Quite a magical trick.

Hi everyone, I am Hafiz — I hail from Rangpur, Bangladesh and I am one of the Co-Presidents of the ESS for the 22/23 academic year. I’ m currently in my 4th year of pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering. Amongst my friends, I am known as a strong advocate for nature and wildlife conservation. My aim is to promote widespread implementation of sustainable design and ecofriendly engineering methods on a global scale. Aside from being an overworked (!) Engineering student — I also happen to be a passionate soccer fanatic, and an avid supporter of the London-based football club Arsenal. I love to travel and my goal is to visit 30 countries before I’ m 30. I earnestly enjoy exploring the wilderness of mother earth while framing precious moments with my long-time trusty sidekick: the Nikon D500, whenever possible!

TAHA ZAFAR (HE/THEY), VP COMMUNICATIONS

What is a secret skill that you have? My not-so-secret secret skill is convincing unsuspecting people into joining the ESS Comms team.

Hellooo, it' s me again! I' m Anwesha, the Executive Assistant and the Co-director of Publications for the ESS. I was born and raised in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, India and I speak three languages (English, Hindi & Bangla!). I' m currently in my 4th year of Mechanical Engineering (the superior discipline, ofc). I'd love to be a part of the Aerospace industry one day, which is why, I' m a part of Mission SpaceWalker under SPEAR (a very cool rover club!). You can find me crying about life or buying iced capp from Timmies when I' m not napping! :)) Hey everyone! My name is Taha and I am your Vice President of Communications this year. I am currently in my 4th year of Civil Engineering Coop, and I am also the Co-VP Marketing for Diversity in Engineering as well as the Social Media Co-lead for Engineers for a Sustainable World, an up-and-coming project group. When I’ m not doing assignments or trying to oversell you multiple pads of Engineering Paper at the Geer Store, I make music under the alias “PVRPLE. ” and steal my friends’ pets. I also like to skateboard and spend my entire paycheque at Remedy when I go there to “study ” . I look forward to continuing to make sure all students are aware of the events they can attend and the opportunities that are available to them.

ZACK DORWARD (HE/HIM) & HOLLY CLARK (SHE/HER), VP INTERNAL AFFAIRS

Hi, I’ m Zack, Co-VP Internal for the ESS. I’ m in my 3rd year of software engineering at the U of A. My favourite food is chicken noodle soup. When I’ m not studying, you can probably find me rock climbing, playing chess, or listening to a TMG podcast. Fun fact about me: I am deeply afraid of spoons.

What is a secret skill that you have? One of my secret talents is that I can do a backflip!

I am Holly! I’ m in my fourth year of Environmental Engineering and loving it. My current hobbies are gardening (mostly potatoes), climbing (and falling) and reading! (Current read: An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green)

What is a secret skill that you have? My secret skill is baking - I used to rock baking competitions!

VIENNA CHEN (SHE/HER) & EVERETT HORNER (HE/HIM), VP EXTERNAL RELATIONS

Hellooo! My name is Vienna, and I’ m in my 3rd year of chemE (CPC). I started volunteering with the ESS as a director on the External team last year, and I’ m excited to be back as an exec this year! Outside of school, I enjoy swimming, reading, and sleeping. Recently, I’ ve also been re-learning how to bike :)

Secret skill: I take apart used disposable cameras and reset them so that they ’re reusable — I can do this all with my eyes closed!

What is a secret skill that you have?

Hi! My name is Everett and I’ m in my fourth year of Civil-Environmental Engineering. I’ m originally from Barrie, Ontario and I’ m one half of the VP External for the ESS this year. I’ve been involved with the ESS since my second year and last year I was the director of research and advocacy. When I’ m not doing homework or supporting the ESS, I like to do taekwondo and alpine skiing.

What is a secret skill that you have? A secret skill of mine would be that I can fillet lake trout and northern pike!

MICAH LIM (SHE/HER) & ELLY BORDIAN (SHE/THEY), VP COMMUNITY

What is a secret skill that you have? My secret skill is getting 8 hrs of sleep from a 10 min nap. �� Hello, everyone! I' m Micah Lim and I' m the ESS CoVP Community for the year 2022-2023. I' m in my second year of electrical engineering and I' m stoked to get started with the ESS this year! I was also the VP Communications for the First Year Engineering Club for the year 2021-2022. I love getting involved and volunteering for events because I get to meet amazing, dedicated people, while improving my leadership skills at the same time! I transferred into engineering from the Faculty of Science after my first year of university because I realized that I enjoy problem-solving. I' m also interested in many things, but right now I' m focused on astronomy, music, and learning languages. I' m currently learning French, and I can also speak Tagalog fluently! A fun fact about me is that I’ ve been to 7 countries!

Hi! My name is Elly, I’ m in my second year of civil co-op, and I’ m one of the ESS Co-VPs of Community. I love a good iced oat milk latte and I have growing collections of platform shoes and cds. Two of my favourite things are music and travel, so a good chunk of my free time (and money) is spent going to concerts. Most of the things I own are covered in stickers, keychains, pins, or buttons, and I’ ve been through four different hair colours in the last six months.

My (sort of) secret skill is drawing, so I’ m super excited to be a part of the team that’ll be putting on the Engineering Art Show this year!

My name is Anushka, I am a fourth year Computer Engineering Co-op student and the Co-VP Academics and Services. I have volunteered with the ESS over the past two years as a coordinator of Public Speaking and Director of Professional Development. I’ m looking forward to serving as the co-VP Academics and to represent student voice and concerns.

My secret skills and things that I enjoy doing in my free time are making realistic sketches of different animals and learning how to hack.

CAMERON SCOTT (SHE/HER) & ROANNE ANDAYA (SHE/HER), VP SOCIAL EVENTS

Hello! My name is Cameron and I am one half of your VP-Social Events. I am currently going into my fourth year of mechanical engineering and am particularly passionate about project management, automotives, and robotics. While I love planning some kick ass events to help students get away from the books, I am very much an introvert myself. On Saturday nights you can find me playing video games, trying out new cooking recipes, and watching a movie with my lil family.

I can sleep for 12-24 if allowed. I am always sleepy and can always go for a nap!
