ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER: Dominek Architecture June, 2016 – April, 2019 Portland, Oregon Architectural Designer and assistant project manager, working on various scale residential and commercial projects from concept, through permitting to construction administration.

DESIGN INTERN: Jessica Helgerson Interior Design Jan, 2016 – June, 2016 Portland, Oregon Design intern, assisting design and production for residential interior design and architecture.

Supported the design team, researched product and materials, specified preliminary FF&E for review by design team, assisted with design production for permit documents, managed materials library, and facilitated communication with product representatives and subcontractors ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER: Kohn Pederson Fox & Associates July, 2013 – August, 2013 New York, New York Assisted concept design and production for mixed-use project, Al Bateen Wharf.

PROJECT DESIGN ASSISTANT: Kohn Pederson Fox & Associates December, 2011 – July, 2012 New York, New York Worked as a designer on Hudson Yards, NYC. Created and modified existing design documents for presentation and communication between the design and marketing teams. Presentations were used to communicate with a number of user groups, including tenants, relevant city agencies and the public. Work includes: architectural drawings, renderings, explanatory diagrams and coordinating among consultants.

URBAN PLANNER/PROJECT COORDINATOR: Solace International March, 2011 - October 2011, Sokode, Ghana Responsibilities included project management, urban development, crisis assessment, financial strategies, business development and fund raising. Assisted with developing water and sanitation solutions for New Seed International - clinic, school and orphan care.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER: Freelance January, 1999 - September 2009 Package design, logo and identity design, print design, graphics for textiles, web interface design, layout and production, strategy, branding, copywriting and mechanicals.

Project description: Apartment housing development in Redmond, Oregon. The project consists of 9 buildings comprised of a 30-unit, 2-story apartment complex on the properties at 1576 SW Juniper Avenue and 1027 SW 15th Street. The two adjacent properties total approx. 1.75 acres. This project was my major focus while working at Dominek Architecture. We began in 2017 and it is currently in development. Completion March 2020.

AMBER ROAD TREKKING CABINS Dominek Architecture, LLC.

The competition called for designs for a series of trekking cabins to be situated along the immense and beautiful Amber Road trekking path. The path will span the full length of Latvia, running along the Baltic Sea beaches which are an undiscovered gem of Northern Europe’s pristine natural beauty.

AMBER ROAD TREKKING CABINS Even as the Traveler moves through an unpredictable landscape, the forms of nature exist within the realm of the known and familiar.

The built world is an opportunity to challenge this, sculpting a reality defined by imagination, to create that which is more alien and surreal.

The Traveler will come upon this strange monolith, an interruption from the familiar, a curiosity to discover. Finite structures, which feel separate from the vastness of nature in their stark contrast, yet reframe the space beyond, return the traveler to an intimacy with nature in each framed view.

How can these cabins be deployed throughout such a vast and varied terrain by using a simple, repeatable and easily constructible form, that isn’t monotonous and predictable? How can variation and surprise for the weary Traveler be created upon each encounter, while utilizing the same basic kit of parts? How can the variety of site conditions be absorbed?

What kind of story could the cabin’s presence tell about the natural landscape and ancient cultural context in which it is found? How can cabins sit lightly on the land while engaging fully with its beautiful surroundings?

A cabin is sited horizontally on the beach, tipped vertically and perched at the edge of a sandstone bluff, suspended at an improbable angle, high in the trees as if it fell from the sky. The orientations engender delight and surprise and create different spatial experiences within. At some sites there may be multiple monoliths that communicate with each other.

The cabin’s striking and unexplainable presence in the context in which it is discovered raises as much curiosity about the breathtaking places in which it is found, as it does about the form itself.

Encountering this unexpected form in a variety of settings, suggests representation of a higher order marking a threshold into a new stage of human consciousness and establishes a dialogue about the specific conditions found there.

DEMATERIALIZATION

Thesis Project, Southern California Institute of Architecture

This thesis confronted the issues of self-actualization through dematerialization, illuminating the fetishization of objects and materiality, and how humans in our culture attach identity to these objects. In order for identity to adhere to the object, there is an assumed permanence or stability. The process of dematerialization implies the transitional nature of things and destabilizes the environment for the subject in order to become inhospitable for attachment.
