Upcoming Course: Recognizing Signs of Targeted Violence Virtual, January 24th & 31st

SCOE is sponsoring a course for educators and public safety staff focused on threat assessment, led by Sergeant Jason Johnson of Campus Safety Consultation. Sessions will be held virtually, at no cost to participants.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Recognizing Signs of Targeted Violence is a course designed for the school site professional, administrator, academic counselor, or mental health clinician who works directly with students. This course will provide attendees with the requisite knowledge to recognize and identify the pathways to violence, known warning behaviors leading up to a targeted act of violence, as well as the impact of mental health. This course will cover the importance of partnership between the police departments and school districts, and how both entities can collaborate with a multi-disciplinary threat assessment team. Attendees will review several known commonalities of prior attackers, and how those common factors impact the threat assessment process. Lastly, this course identifies intervention and mitigation strategies to interrupt the pathway to violence and prevent a targeted act of violence using realworld case studies.
