Considered design and thoughtful innovation continue to shape our future

his season feels like an important one for Soho Lighting. We’re introducing our new Architectural Collection, a quieter, more pared-back expression of our approach to design, alongside our awardwinning Kinetic Technology – thoughtful innovation that makes beautiful interiors work better. “
We’re also proud to be a certified B Corporation. When we started Soho Lighting, we simply wanted to make things beautifully, choose materials carefully, work with good people and create pieces
that would last. As we’ve grown, those principles have become more important, not less. For me, it’s about creating pieces with integrity and soul – designed for today, but made to age beautifully and endure.”

A/W LOOKBOOK: INTRODUCING
The Architectural Collection Launching later this year, this new collection marries timeless proportion and contemporary restraint. With pared-back forms and a quietly architectural aesthetic, we’ve created a more understated expression of our switches and sockets, designed to sit effortlessly within considered interiors. Crafted from solid brass, our slimmest plate to date will bring balance and cohesion to your scheme.
THE ROTARY
It’s in the detail... We’ve reimagined every part of this collection, even down to the traditional rotary, adding a beautifully sculpted collar, which brings a new elegance to rotary dimming. THE CLEAR RECYCLED SWITCH & SOCKET
The Architectural Collection introduces our first switches and sockets crafted from fully recycled transparent plastic. Elegantly slim with a finely chamfered edge, the clear plate allows wallpaper and decorative finishes to remain visible, sitting almost seamlessly within the interior. A discreet, design-led solution that brings together responsible material choices and a distinctly contemporary aesthetic. THE TOGGLE SOCKET
Inspired by our Co-Founder Lee Lovett’s love of toggles, and a desire to bring the same elegance to sockets as switches, we’ve created our first-to-market Toggle Socket. Replacing the traditional rocker with our signature toggle, this innovative design brings a more considered, tactile quality to an everyday essential.

T Soho Lighting, sustainability has always begun with making things well. Choosing materials for their beauty and longevity. Engineering products to perform better and last longer. Working with skilled makers and trusted partners. Creating pieces that can live comfortably within a building for years to come. That thinking extends beyond what we make to how we make it. Becoming a certified B Corporation formalises an approach that has shaped Soho Lighting from the beginning: that the decisions
From repairable construction and batteryfree Kinetic Technology to solid brass designed to develop character with age, we consider the entire life of a product. Our collections are assembled in Cornwall, supported by long-standing relationships with British manufacturers and craftspeople, while considered material and packaging choices help us continually reduce our impact. ______ FIND OUT MORE...

As part of the Decorex Sustainability Task Force, we’re proud to work alongside like-minded brands to encourage more responsible choices across the design industry. It’s an approach that reflects our wider commitment to designing with greater consideration for materials, longevity, people and planet. Our award-winning Ocean Collection transforms reclaimed fishing nets and ocean plastics into 3D-printed lighting, with 10% of proceeds supporting Surfers Against Sewage. That same thinking extends into our Cleaner Ocean Project, where local Cornish schoolchildren explore plastics, recycling and sustainable design. One pupil’s winning creation, the Bluebell Light, was brought to life by our team and now forms part of the Ocean Collection. CLOCKWISE FROM LEFT:

Sustainability is an important part of both our stories. What role do antiques and vintage pieces have to play in creating a more considered, sustainable home? The wonderful thing about an antique is that it’s already proved itself. It has survived.

Lee Lovett chats to Toby Lorford about blending old and new – a theme woven throughout our Decorex stand
APPEAL of ANTIQUES
Our stand is centred around the idea of blending old and new. What do antiques bring to a contemporary interior that newly made pieces sometimes cannot? Time. You simply cannot manufacture it overnight. The surface has shifted, the colour has mellowed, it’s likely been repaired or adapted or lived with differently by whoever owned it before you.
There’s an obvious environmental case for reusing what already exists, but I think there’s a bigger cultural one too. We shouldn’t assume replacing something is automatically better than repairing it, or that new equals valuable. If a piece has survived a hundred or two hundred years because it was well made and people kept finding it useful or beautiful, that tells you something worth listening to. There is something particularly special about objects and materials that become more beautiful with age. Why do you think we are drawn to pieces that carry a sense of history and patina?
The enduring
As Lorfords brings history, character and soul to our Decorex stand, founder Toby Lorford reflects on the beauty of old and new, living with antiques and why enduring design will always have a place
At Lorfords we have pieces that have been used, moved, repaired and loved for generations, and they’re still very much good for another life. There’s something quietly optimistic in that.
That accumulation is what gives an object its character. None of which means antiques belong in traditionally decorated rooms. Quite the opposite. Some of the most exciting interiors we place pieces into now are properly contemporary. Sit an eighteenth-century commode against a beautifully plain wall, or an old table under contemporary lighting, and suddenly you see both pieces differently. That friction between periods is often exactly what gives a room its personality. I’ll take that over everything matching any day.
Because perfection is rather dull, isn’t it. Patina is proof of a life lived. A worn chair arm, the softened edge of a table, layers of old paint, they tell you the object existed long before you ever found it. You can’t fake that convincingly, and I think we all recognise the difference instinctively, even if we couldn’t explain why. When I’m buying, pristine conditions are rarely what I’m after. I want character, proportion, originality, something that stops me in my tracks. More often than not, it’s the imperfection that makes a piece irresistible. After more than twenty years of doing this, I still get that same jolt seeing something across a room and needing to know its story. That’s the whole thrill of it. You never stop looking. lorfordsantiques.com
