Ÿ Pedestrian Bridge Design
PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE Best Entry; City Level Competition01
The Competition was initiated by Karachi Development Authority(KDA) whereby to build pedestrian bridges in Karachi in a new innovative design assortment retaining their constraints and structural basis. Hence the project got 1st prize awarded bu Government Officials and Vice Chancellors due to its compatibility with the design brief and details accomplishing the core purpose.

GEOMETRIC
SUCCESSION
The design reflects principle of repetition of the most stable primary shape the triangle. The form transcends triangles laid geometrically alongside design that frames repetition, The overall scheme emphasizes the depth of the structure such that resulting configuration creates a visual sensation of layers maintaining transparency.

FORM Transformation
The form has been evolved overtime through conjunction and adjunction of geometric principles in collaboration with one another; in such a way that the whole looks more emphasized to the sum of them. Likewise here in order to synchronize the truss structure with column the angle has been slanted to a calculated degree retaining structural constraints and aesthetics as a cherry on the top. Moreover the balusters have been improvised accordingly to establish a coherence in design.

PLAN Illustration
The siteallocated was Sharafi Goth, Korangi Industrial Area; the benefit or maybe called off as a challenge was the central median of length 45' which aided us in substituting a structural element. Alongside which the site itself was challenge dealing with a pure industrial backdrop; with least vegetation hence the design has to compliment it in most economic & sustainable way

This diagramis used as a gadget to explain the site in cognition with our design and in what patterns will it eventually exerts necessary design intervention to be considered.
The basic dogmatic detail or the primary function of the foot bridge is showcased in the following diagram which illustrates the pragmatic details in relation with the ambiance created alongside and also the functioning and inhabitation by the users.

Permeability | Structure
The structure encompasses a fluid rhythm of geometry that eventually generates a passive impact on the viewer while having a gaze at the outlook that the primary concept that initiated with one triangle has been gelling in throughout the crossways.
Icon | Architecture
An iconic resemblance of inclined column details overpowers the bridge and its existence such that it reminds the viewer about the exploited use of triangles thoroughly while passing by.

ELEVATION Development
The modular aspect and ratios have been maintained and echoed throughout the elevations from front to side keeping the visual tactility , harmony and balance. The railings have been designed in a similar modular echoing aspect painting the structure’s truest and purest form .


INTERIOR Experience
The interior crossway follows the modular geometry seen throughout , echoing not only in broad daylight due to sun movement and orientation but also due to the proposition of the way the light inlets have been arranged , this pattern follows day and night keeping it in tact with the concept and feasible for users safety and security.

CANOPY for supporting roof
The canopy has been carved out within being under the exploitation of our concept and the play of triangles accomplish the pragmatic requirements of solar panels and the shelter through creation of shades of shadows disrupting the monotony
CIRCULATION as functional priority
The most significant factor of a foot bridge i.e. the feasible circulation of pedestrians have been kept as simple as possible to make the design more concerned towards the primary aspect of merely crossing the gap between. BALUSTRADE as safety measure
Continuing the trend of breaking the stereo type, a bold attempt has been taken to enhance the modular balustrade typology in cognition with the structural rhythm being followed that respectively inhabit triangles.
TRUSSES as structural member
The typical truss structure has been modified and enhanced in ordinance with the other functional requirements appropriately.
COLUMNS as structural members
Exerting the maximum level of focus onto the structure, the columns have been thought over in detail and coming into the conclusion of inclining them to 20 degrees that could stand out the applied load perfectly without compromising the aesthetics.



The project was a combined effort of a group of 3 people; where me & my fellow Hasham Ali have done all the graphical works.
