Within Britain’s diverse architectural tapestry, our homes serve as unique expressions of individuality, each telling its own story through design and style. From the rustic charm of centuries-old sandstone farmhouses to the bold simplicity of modernist concrete structures, this rich heritage reflects a journey through time, artistic movements, and enduring craftsmanship.
Our timeless upholstered furniture is designed to complement a wide range of home styles. Whether enhancing the generous elegance of a Victorian villa or the clean lines of a contemporary apartment, our sofas and chairs can be fully personalised. With a choice of fabrics and bespoke details, they offer the flexibility to bring your vision of comfort to life.

Creative collaborations
We are proud to collaborate with some of Britain’s most loved and renowned heritage organisations, partnering with those who share our appreciation for what is beautiful, fascinating, exceptional, and meaningful. These collaborations celebrate the artistry, history, and storytelling that inspire creativity and great design.
From exploring the collections of the V&A and the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) to celebrating the ingenuity and vision represented by the British Film Institute (BFI) and Pallant House Gallery, each connection reflects our fascination with human creativity. In 2025, we look forward to partnering with the Royal Ballet and Opera (RBO) to further this celebration of skill and artistic excellence.

Design inspiration from the V&A archives
Our collaboration with the V&A is founded on a shared passion for textiles, decorative arts, and exceptional design. Established in 1852 to make art accessible and inspire designers and manufacturers, the V&A’s collections continue to spark creativity worldwide. Drawing from this remarkable archive, we reimagine historical motifs and artistic traditions, blending timeless beauty with contemporary interiors.
The latest collection, Threads of India Opulent Velvets, deepens our exploration of Indian, Persian, and South Asian textiles. It extends the tribute to this rich heritage first explored in our Threads of India linen collection, reinterpreting traditional Mughal and Indian motifs onto luxurious velvet.
Inspired by textiles from the 17th to 19th centuries within the V&A’s archives - including palampore patterns, ikat, and paisley - these designs are printed on sumptuous velvet in a rich, burnished palette, merging luxury with a profound sense of history.
Available across our made-to-order upholstered furniture, as well as by the metre for other interior projects, these fabrics bring a unique blend of heritage and elegance to any space.

Bringing the outside in
Nature is a perennial source of design inspiration. Little can surpass the beauty of the natural world, both in form and colour palettes, and we delight in bringing elements of this bounty into living spaces through our fabric designs. This desire to bring the outside in has nurtured our collaboration with the RHS and the exclusive fabric designs we have created from the archives of the RHS Lindley Collections.
Our latest RHS fabric collection, Botanicals, brings centuries-old fascination with botanical exploration into modern living spaces. Inspired by the artistic endeavours of intrepid naturalists and the golden age of botanical study, it celebrates humanity’s enduring fascination with plants, in a fusion of history, artistry, and natural beauty.
Following its launch at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024, Botanicals is now available to explore in our showrooms and online, alongside our previous RHS collections. These designs bring a unique harmony of heritage and natural beauty to your interiors.

Tread lightly
Linen holds a special place in our fabric collection, embodying qualities of durability, authenticity, and sustainability that align perfectly with our commitment to quality craftsmanship and environmental responsibility.
Breathable, absorbent and durable, linen perfectly suits modern living, resisting dirt and stains better than many fibres, while its lovely texture matures gracefully over time. Beyond these immediate benefits, linen production is significantly more sustainable. Linen typically requires less land to cultivate compared to cotton, and a fraction of the water. Flax is sufficiently irrigated through natural rainfall, requires minimal pesticides and fertilizers, and generates very little waste.

A commitment to longevity
In a world of fleeting trends and disposable goods, we remain dedicated to creating furniture you’ll cherish for years. With timeless designs and exceptional quality, our sofas are built to last four or five times longer than cheaper alternatives - an investment in lasting value.
While our sofas may cost a little more upfront, their longevity offers exceptional value. They’re not just furniture but lifelong companions, woven into the fabric of your home and memories. From shared laughter to quiet moments, a well-loved sofa can even be passed down, becoming a part of your family’s story. Reconnect with what true value means: personalised choices, comfort and quality designed to last a lifetime.
Honouring heritage
Trends may come and go, but great design endures. At Sofas & Stuff, we blend timeless elements from the history of furniture design with modern sensibilities. The Chesterfield, with its high arms and deep-buttoned back; the elegant Howard arm, synonymous with classic English style; and the iconic Knole sofa, with its dramatic, adjustable splayed arms, have all remained popular because they are both practical and beautiful.
Our deep understanding of these enduring designs allows us to reimagine them for contemporary living, while preserving a sense of heritage.
The legacy of the Knole sofa
With its dramatic, high splayed arms, the Knole sofa has captivated imaginations for nearly 400 years. Its striking silhouette pairs beautifully with rich velvets or textured linens. Dressed in bold florals or stripes, it blends heritage with contemporary style.
At Sofas & Stuff, we’re inspired by its legacy as the precursor to modern splay-armed sofas. Some design stories never fade - they evolve and continue to captivate.
The art of pleating and button tufting
The pleating and deep buttoning on a Chesterfield sofa are not just stylish - they are a testament to craftsmanship. Each button is placed individually, requiring precision to achieve the symmetrical folds and tufting that are the hallmark of quality.
Developed over 300 years ago, this hand-tufting tradition remains integral to our furniture-making process. While materials have modernised, the skill and attention to detail continue.
The comfortenduring of serpentine springs
Serpentine springs - introduced in the early 19th century - remain the essential foundation for our sofas. These steel springs, tied with silent wire for more consistent support, bring durability and a smoother and more comfortable seating experience.
Why the Howard arm still captivates
The Howard arm is synonymous with understated elegance. Its soft curve, crafted through expert shaping and padding, offers both comfort and visual balance. The low profile and gentle slant invite relaxation, while the tailored finish showcases the artistry of the upholsterer.
This blend of style and substance is why the Howard arm remains popular today. Featured in several of our models, including the bestselling Alwinton and Kentwell, it embodies enduring British style.
The craft behind every cushion
Feather-filled sofas exude heritage charm and a luxurious, sink-in feel. For those seeking easier maintenance, we also offer feather-wrapped fibre cushion interiors, combining indulgent comfort with practical care. The choice is yours.
Embracing innovation
We uphold the best traditions of upholstery while also looking to the future. By offering innovative materials like Quallofil recycled plastic fibres in our cushion interiors, we move the dial forward on sustainability, while maintaining the quality, comfort, and style you expect.

We are more than a retailer of furniture; we are a retailer that manufactures. This is a key part of what makes us different and gives us complete control over the quality of what we produce. Your specific furniture order is known by your name to each craftsperson involved in its manufacture, and is created with care and the utmost attention to detail.
Good foundations
All of our sofas and chairs have a solid birch wood frame. The timber is sourced from European FSC-certified forests, kiln-dried to stop it warping, then glued, screwed and dowelled. This strong foundation means we can use serpentine springs, which, secured together to spread the weight load, bring durability and give a really comfy feel. Built to last from the inside out, we are proud to offer a lifetime construction guarantee.
‘White glove’ delivery
Your furniture will be delivered to your home by our in-house delivery team, managed by our logistics department in Milton Keynes. Our Trustpilot reviews frequently sing the praises of our delivery drivers, whose careful and skilful handling is only surpassed by their friendly attitude.
Design is an adventure; a spirited exploration driven by curiosity. From the captivating beauty of the natural world to the narratives woven through history, literature and art, we look to create pieces that resonate not just as furniture but as expressions of the creative influences that shape our world.

The stuff of life
We’re often asked what the ‘Stuff’ in our name means. On the surface, it refers to the items we create alongside our bespoke sofas - the fabrics, beds, and smaller accent pieces. Historically, ‘Stuff’ also described the materials - the fabrics and fillings - used in upholstery.
But its meaning runs deeper. Just as the phrase “the stuff of life” evokes the rich and varied elements that bring depth to our homes and relationships, ‘Stuff’ symbolises more than materials. It represents the craftsmanship and care that shape each piece into something special, with every detail relating to your individual story.
So here’s where you come in: the choices you make - from fabric to finish - infuse every piece with its unique character. With your vision and our expertise, furniture becomes more than a product; it becomes a reflection of your style and a meaningful part of your life.
