Pancake Perfection

“Excuse me!!”

I panted while racing up the street, nearly bumping into a lady and her German Shepherd. My limbs ached from running, but I continued to dash, faster and faster. I needed to arrive at the Flippy Pancakes restaurant, which my family owned, before three. We were short on waiters around the kitchen, and business hadn’t exactly been booming. Because of this, I had quickly volunteered to help around the kitchen.

Despite the blasting cold and the foggy, mournful sky that day, I sprinted forward, and weaved through a clump of ladies selling snacks in small tents along the sidewalk. My watch ticked. 2:59 pm. I breathlessly zoomed up another bumpy hill, stopping to rest at the top.

Suddenly, something shiny caught my eye. Curiosity took over, and, ignoring the time, I went over to investigate the street pole. Taped to it was a colored flyer flapping in the wind. In big, bold letters were the words "PANCAKE FLIPPING COMPETITION. Come show off your pancake skills in the battle of flavor, strategy, and delicious tastes!" But what caught my eye were the letters listed below a detailed cartoon drawing of a French chef: "$250,000 grand prize and free advertisement for the winning pancake recipe! Held at FoodMaster Hall this Saturday, April 3rd, at 5:00 PM. "

In my excitement, I ripped off the flyer and ran faster than I had before.
