HOW THE TOPS IN TARRANT WINNERS WERE CHOSEN: The Society Life ‘Tops in Tarrant’ medical list is a result of a website-based survey requesting suggestions for the top medical practice under each listed specialty. The 100 specialties were chosen by the Society Life editorial staff. It’s suggested that any medical practice serving the residents of Northeast Tarrant County was eligible—including, but not limited to, Society Life Magazine advertisers. If any practice was nominated for multiple specialties, it appears under only one category as decided by the Society Life staff. There are no duplicate business listings allowed—each practice may appear only once in the top 100. The final numbers are confidential and anonymous. The resulting list on pages 40-41 of this issue reflects who received the most votes from the final survey nominations. All listings are alphabetical under their respective medical specialty—they are not listed by number of votes or any other ranking.
Join me in congratulating the medical professionals and practices who appear on our list. It is an honor for them to be voted for and named one of the Top 100 medical practices serving the residents of Northeast Tarrant. We are truly blessed when we find a really good doctor who helps us keep our family healthy. If you’re currently looking for a good doctor under any of the specialties listed, I hope you’ll find the right fit for your family here (winners on page 40).

When my old grill bit the dust I shopped around and found this Fuego Element grill that’s as much an art statement of design as it is a powerhouse for outdoor grilling. The Fuego Element grill is designed like no other grill on the market. Its sleek design is perfect for small patios or balconies. Despite its small footprint at only 21” x 21” it still boasts enough cooking space for 4-6 people. I am shocked by how much fits on here!
I also love the pizza stone kit that you can get to use on this grill. Perfect for any grill master. fuegoliving.com

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” — Ecclesiastes 9:10 Do
To be top-notch at anything, we must first discover what we are genuinely passionate about. A skill, talent, or deed where we utilize our God-given strengths to tap into the wisdom and knowledge we’ve obtained over the years. Or perhaps a mission, though buried within our soul, brings joy and a sense of fulfillment.
In Romans 15:13, the Apostle Paul shares his desire that “the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you will abound in hope and be overflowing (bubbling over) with hope. Proverbs 10:28 explains that “hope brings joy” and Romans 12:12 instructs us to “rejoice in hope.” This infers that both are closely linked, but more so interdependent. When working, we are to operate in both— hope in our career aspirations and joy in our career obligations. Additionally, Psalms 32:11 instructs us to “be glad in the Lord, [and] rejoice and shout for joy”.
Walter Scott believed that “For success, attitude is equally as important as ability.” Does this mean that joy-filled people are the most successful? Possibly. Our frame of mind is strongly connected to our (spiritual and professional) success, but so is our work ethic. Proverbs 22:29 asks, “Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.”
THE LIVING BIBLE TRANSLATION:
“a hardworking man… shall be successful and stand before kings!”
THE MESSAGE BIBLE:
“Observe people who are good at their work—skilled workers are always in demand and admired; they don’t take a backseat to anyone.”
Based on this scripture, diligent prowess will capture the attention of powerful people. But it’s not enough to be the best at your job and not put forth the same effort at home. Ecclesiastes 4:5-6 serves as a reminder that we are to find balance between our families and careers, avoiding excessive work so our homes do not suffer. We accomplish this when we maintain our faith in God, knowing our reliance in Him gives us steadfastness in our careers. Possessing a spirit of joy and excellence gains the trust of others, but the ultimate aim is “doing everything as unto the Lord, while not trying to impress man” (Colossians 3:23). What we do in secret—God rewards publicly (Matthew 6:4). By virtue of that, we won’t stress so hard for the promotion—for God is the
One Who gives us the ability to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18). Admittedly, we should be more excited about our Kingdom work than a year-end Christmas bonus. It is His desire that we “let our light so shine before men, that they may see our good work and glorify God” (Matthew 5:16).
Whether a medical professional, the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, a local business owner, or a stay-at-home dad, becoming the best at anything requires an enormous amount of dedication and commitment. We must be dedicated enough to put in the work and committed enough to overcome any obstacle. All without grumbling or complaining (Philippians 2:14)—doing so will certainly help catapult our careers and improve our home life.
Yes, we should all strive to be a person who is good at what they do. But more importantly, we should do everything in our power to be a person who operates with the utmost character. Placing our confidence in God rather than our own abilities serves as a roadmap to success and points us toward our desired outcome. It is my prayer that each of us will ‘enjoy the journey’ (Psalms 23:3) and continue to rest in the presence of God; where there is fullness of joy; and pleasures at His right hand (Psalms 16:11).
Blessings!

If you took the film “When Harry Met Sally,” added lots of teenage angst and sprinkled in some time travel, you’d have a good start on “This Time Around” by Kimberly Packard. While it might be shelved with the Romance novels in the library, it goes much deeper than your average meet-cute.
Things couldn’t look much worse for main character Josie Berry Gardner. Her soon-to-be-ex husband has announced his bid for primary custody of their children just before he and his half-his-age live-in whisk them off for a ski vacation. Her eco-friendly cleaning products business just lost a huge bid for shelf space in a nationwide grocery chain. Her future looks bleak enough to throw her into a full blown panic attack. And then she wakes up at the beginning of her senior year in high school.
Josie reconnects quickly with her friends Emily and Sofia. This “ride-ordie” crew shares everything about the last year of high school including Trash Can Punch hangovers, senior pictures and parents’ shaky marriages. Everything except the fact that Josie has done this once before.
A few of Josie’s classmates manage to discover her secret. She reaches out to the local trio of science nerds to
help her get back to her own time and especially her children. These guys turn out to be great friends, but no real help in solving her problem. She does, however, give them some tips on the future that will change their lives dramatically.
Josie keeps a secret journal where she lists the things that happened during her first senior year that she would like to keep from happening the second time around: a classmate’s death by drowning, her parents divorce, her favorite school librarian crushing an ankle in a fall and never fully recovering. And most important of all, losing her best friend and one true love, Daniel.
Josie rejected Daniel when he finally professed his love for her at the end of their senior year. Then she spent the next 30 years regretting it. Can she make a different choice this time around? But if she does, how will that impact her life back in the real world?
This is a fun return to high school days with an even balance between humor and the depth of the life-changing decisions we all make. Characters ring true with quirks and needs that make readers connect with them right away. And nuggets of wisdom in the text could jump of the page and right onto a bulletin board near you.

For more than 138 years, the State Fair of Texas has been the home of all things Texan and our guests play the biggest part in creating this unique atmosphere every year. Every corny dog fried, every light bulb switched on in the Midway, and every Main Stage sound check leads to one end goal: creating 24 days of incredible memories for all the guests who come to celebrate with us. It’s our hope that those memories bring guests back each year, thus creating traditions that are unique different but equally magical to each of us.
What traditions created at the Fair are your favorite? We asked fairgoers that very question and many of them shared some of the same insights. Taking a yearly photo with Big Tex, sharing new fair food, or taking a swan boat ride on the lagoon – we heard it all and it inspired us to create a list of 24 fair traditions that best represented all those incredible stories. Why 24 fair traditions? One for every day of the fair!
Working together with The Matchbox Studios, a design agency in Dallas, we set out to visualize that list of 24 fair traditions in a fun and engaging way. Finding a way to combine them into one image proved challenging, but we took a page from Big Tex’s book, rolled up our sleeves, and got creative. There were a few draft ideas that didn’t make it to the final artwork but the best ones embodied the spirit of the State Fair of Texas.
The unforgettable memories we make at the fair stay with us, long after we leave the lights of Fair behind. In this way, we all take home a “haul of experiences” with us. Each year when Big Tex leaves his hospitality post at the end of the Fair, we like to think he takes a “haul of memories” with him too. And how would he transport them? In the back of his pickup truck of course!
Colorful representations of some those popular Fair traditions our guests recalled, slowly came to life in a series of images that everyone could relate to. From pigs to blue ribbons to marionettes, Big Tex’s truck eventually filled up and amusingly overflowed with elements from our list of 24 Fair traditions. Of course, we couldn’t leave out the big guy himself. He happily posed for the artwork.
For 2024, it’s our hope that you’ll join us in taking the opportunity to spend 24 days creating new memories and traditions at the Most Texan Place on Earth. Thats 24 days of food, ride, games, shows, music, and so much more. Or simply put, the Fair is “24 Days of Fun.” Ready to get your 2024 season pass? Sign up at BigTex.com to become a Big Tex Insider and we’ll let you know when pre-sale and on sale dates for 2024 Season passes become available! See ya at the fair!

How did Lake Grapevine come to be? An exhibit will run July 15th to August 24th at Southlake Town Hall, located at 1400 Main Street. Presented by the Southlake Historical Society, the exhibit will tell the stories of people impacted by the lake and showcase historical U.S. Army Corps of Engineers photographs, aerial maps and family photos. It’s called “Making a Splash: How Lake Grapevine put Southlake on the map.” The exhibit is free and open to the public.
The exhibit will be displayed in the lobby of Town Hall. Exhibit hours will be: Monday through Thursday
10am-8pm Friday and Saturday 10am-6pm Sunday
closed
From 1947-1952, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers constructed a reservoir (artificial lake) and dam designed to control Trinity River flooding and act as a source of water for Dallas. The 5-year endeavor began with the clearing of 15,000 acres of Denton Creek bottomlands and ended in the summer of 1952. It wasn’t until 1957 that the lake filled up. During those years, Southlake was born.
“Obviously, Southlake was named with the lake in mind,” said historical society president Connie Cooley. “But before the town was incorporated in 1956, Hurst was making moves to annex unincorporated areas all the way to the lake. Folks who lived here didn’t like that and acted quickly.”
The lake was a big deal to locals who remember driving down into the construction site to watch. At the July 3, 1952, ceremony marking the completion of the lake, Grapevine Mayor Gordon Tate (father of today’s Mayor William Tate) greeted dignitaries that included Amon Carter and John Carpenter.
Small town Southlake—popular on 1,023 in 1960—saw a jump in families moving to the area. In 1963, Carroll Superintendent Jack D. Johnson told a Fort Worth Star-Telegram reporter, “People are moving out of the cities looking for the country life and the lake.” Longtime residents today fondly recall learning to drive a boat, water skiing, fishing in lake sloughs and riding their horses around the lake. Oh, and dinosaurs roamed there 96 million years ago.
This is the 10th exhibit presented by the Southlake Historical Society. Past topics have included hobby airstrips in Southlake from about 1950-1980—how the war “over there” impacted now-Southlake and Texas, the centennial of Carroll Hill School, the birthplace of Carroll ISD and the city of Southlake; and an awardwinning story of Bob and Almeady Chisum Jones (much of whose property, interestingly enough) was taken in 1947 with the creation of Lake Grapevine. – –

YOUNG WOMEN EMBARKING ON HIGHER EDUCATION JOURNEY
Girls Inc. of Tarrant County (GITC) hosted a celebratory College Signing Day event recently, recognizing the academic achievements of 40 graduating high school seniors. The event, held at GITC’s headquarters (304 E. Vickery Blvd, Fort Worth, Texas), was filled with excitement and pride as the girls announced their acceptances to 13 different colleges and universities, including Texas Christian University (TCU), University of Texas, Texas A&M, University of North Texas (UNT), and Prairie View A&M University.
The ceremony also highlighted the generous support of private donors who awarded scholarships ranging from $500 to $15,000 to deserving GITC participants. These scholarships will provide critical financial assistance as the young women embark on their higher education journeys.
“We are incredibly proud of all our graduating seniors,” said Jennifer Limas, President and CEO of Girls Inc. of Tarrant County. “Their dedication to their education and their commitment to pursuing their dreams is truly inspiring. These scholarships will make a significant difference in their ability to achieve their academic goals. We’re grateful for our generous donors who make events like this possible."
The top two scholarship recipients are Jamere Thomas and Jocelyn DeLeon. Thomas, a student at Young Women’s Leadership Academy, received a $15,000 scholarship to attend Texas Woman's University where she has plans to study sociology. She’s also the vice president of the Teen Advocacy Council through Girls Inc. of Tarrant County and spoke at the Day of the Girl rally in October.
DeLeon received a $7,500 scholarship to attend UNT where she plans to study psychology. She’s currently a student at I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA, an Alcon intern and has been in Girls Inc. of Tarrant County since 8th grade.
All 40 girls are now members of GITC’s College Shower Cohort, allowing them to create a wishlist of items they will need for their college journey. Donors from all over Tarrant County will sponsor the girls and gift the items during GITC’s College Shower in July.

ALLIANCE VISION INSTITUTE
In the kaleidoscope of human experience, vision serves as our window to the world. And behind the intricate workings of our eyes lies a complex interplay of biology, optics and neuroscience. As guardians of this precious faculty, expert eye doctors stand at the forefront, wielding their knowledge and skill to preserve and enhance our gift of sight. That’s where the medical professionals at Alliance Vision Institute dominate. Eyesight embodies our connection to the world, shaping our understanding of beauty, identity and the very essence of existence. In this article, we highlight the pivotal role of Alliance Vision Institute as they provide unmatched eye care to our communities.
Q: Is LASIK painful? A: Not at all! LASIK is not painful. Before beginning the LASIK eye surgery procedure, the team of LASIK experts will apply anesthetic eye drops to numb your eyes. You may feel some slight pressure, but you won’t feel any pain. –
Q: Is LASIK safe? A: All surgeries have some risk of side effects, but LASIK is one of the safest and most common surgical procedures performed today. According to the American Refractive Surgery Council, less than 1% of LASIK patients experience complications. Temporary side effects like dry eye and light sensitivity are normal and should clear up quickly. You can find out more about what you can expect from LASIK during your free consultation at AVI.
The clearest reason to get LASIK is that it can significantly enhance your vision and reduce or eliminate the need to wear glasses and contacts. It’s impossible to put a value on the convenience and improved quality of life LASIK can bring you. That said, the cost of LASIK can be a concern for many of patients. If you share this concern, please give AVI a call so they can help you learn more about their financing options.
Most motivated adults are a great fit for LASIK. During your free consultation, they will determine if you’re a good candidate for the surgery by confirming that you:
• Are at least 18 years old
• Haven’t had a change in your vision prescription in the past year
• Don’t have eye conditions, or signs of eye conditions, like glaucoma or cataracts
• Are ready to rely less on contact lenses or glasses

MEET YOUR LASIK SURGEON,THE OPHTHALMOLOGIST BEHIND ALLIANCE VISION INSTITUTE AND PRECISION AMBULATORY SURGERY CENTER
Dr. Taylor Strange is an experienced, board certified LASIK surgeon who has completed thousands of successful eye surgeries. He places the highest value on offering personalized patient care and attention, and personally explores your case. He works with you to find the vision correction solution that best fits your needs. Dr. Strange graduated near the top of his class with a perfect GPA and brings that perfectionism to every surgery he performs. In addition to his reputation for precise surgical technique and optimal outcomes, Dr. Strange is well-known for his bedside manner and sense of humor. When not saving people’s vision or moonlighting as a certain popular hero, Dr. Strange enjoys spending time with his children and wife (to whom he credits his entire career), staying active in his church, playing basketball, cycling, and enjoying football games on fall weekends.
Since Dr. Strange started Alliance Vision Institute (formerly Alliance Ophthalmology) in 2017, it had been his dream to create a world-class, all-inclusive facility incorporating an amazing clinic, laser vision correction center and eye surgery center. With the opening of the 24,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility in North Fort Worth, that dream became reality. Expansion of their practice to Southlake, Northlake and Decatur is a further vision of that dream made into reality.
At Alliance Vision Institute’s recently opened Southlake and Northlake locations, their team of highly skilled LASIK eye surgeons, ophthalmologists and optometrists are dedicated to delivering exceptional eye and vision care services for a lifetime of healthy eyes. Highly experienced eye doctors will combine top-of-the-line technology with a patient-centered approach in order to bring you an exceptional eye care experience. They offer a full range of vision correction options, including LASIK, PRK, EVO ICL, and RLE, as well as custom cataract surgery. They have helped thousands of patients experience life with improved vision and we look forward to helping you with a treatment plan that is customized for your unique needs. AVI has helped bring better vision to thousands of patients across Texas—and beyond! Their doctors are more than simply trained in using cutting-edge technology to treat your vision, they’re experts with decades of experience of helping patients see more clearly. In fact, the only thing they’re prouder of at Alliance Vision Institute than their tech, is their team. These dedicated, compassionate experts of their craft don’t settle for anything less than your best vision—they take the time to carefully consider your case and walk through your options with you so you can be confident that any vision correction they prescribe is the optimal solution for you. You deserve the clearest vison—achieve it with AVI.
“In middle school, I noticed my vision changing, and it became more difficult to see the teacher’s lessons from the back of the classroom. I had developed myopia and astigmatism—forcing me into glasses and contact lenses. Adjusting to the hassles and frustrations glasses and contacts brought made that time in my life difficult. For those of you struggling with poor vision, I can relate to your visual anxiety and desire to see better without the obstacles poor vision brings. After decades of dealing with the headache of glasses and contacts, I decided to pursue laser vision correction surgery. Waking up every morning and being able to see the world around me with perfect vision was absolutely life changing!”
“I am grateful to have the opportunity to relive that same joy with my patients after their vision correction procedures. I have performed more than 15,000 vision correction procedures, and the list of happy patients include people who have traveled from all over the great state of Texas, as well as my closest friends and family, including my mother, father, several aunts and uncles and other eye surgeons and their families.”
“Thank you for considering Alliance Vision Institute for your vision correction needs. For those of you who have entrusted me and other doctors at Alliance Vision Institute to correct your vision, I can’t say thank you enough! For those of you trying to decide which way to go regarding your eyesight, it is my hope you will be able to experience the same vision correction miracle that my patients and I have experienced. I am excited to help you see to your full visual potential. Let’s sit down for a consultation to decide which of these life-changing vision correction procedures are right for you.”
Alliance Vision Institute offers a wide range of vision correction options to meet specific needs of each and every patient, no matter their eye health or lifestyle. They’ll help you choose the best vision package for you!

The medical practices listed here are the result of our website-based survey requesting votes for the top local leaders in 100 common medical specialties. These 100 specialties were hand selected by the Society Life editorial staff and voting took place online on our website. It was suggested that any medical practice or facility serving residents of Northeast Tarrant was eligible—including, but not limited to, magazine advertisers. If any medical practice or facility was nominated for multiple specialties, it will only appear once in the Top 100. The list includes only the Top nomination under each specialty and all of the winner’s listings are in alphabetical order by their respective specialty nomination, not in any order of ranking.

No one dreams that their future might hold a pair of dentures soaking in a cup... these traditional dentures used to be the only option available to replace missing teeth, but today’s a new day for those patients who have lost most or all of their own natural teeth! Implant dentures are a modern and highly effective solution for these individuals. Unlike traditional dentures that rest on the gums or rely on adhesives, implant dentures are securely anchored to dental implants that are surgically placed into the jawbone. This provides a more stable and comfortable fit — allowing patients to speak, chew, and smile with confidence.
The process of getting implant dentures typically involves several stages. First, Dr. Steven Branberg will evaluate your oral health to determine if you are indeed a suitable candidate for dental implants. Then, dental implants are surgically inserted into the jawbone, serving as artificial tooth roots. Over a healing period of a few months, the implants fuse with the bone. Once the implants have integrated, dentures are custom-made and attached to the implants—providing a secure, lifelike replacement option. One of the key advantages of implant dentures is their improved stability. Because they are anchored to dental implants, there is no risk of them slipping or shifting while talking or eating. This stability allows for a more natural biting and chewing function, enabling patients to enjoy a wider range of foods. Implant dentures also help preserve the integrity of the jawbone. The presence of dental implants stimulates the bone, preventing bone loss that typically occurs when natural teeth are missing. This both helps maintain the facial structure and prevents the sunken appearance that can commonly result from long-term denture use.
Overall, implant dentures offer a durable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing solution for individuals who have lost their teeth. They provide a secure fit, improved oral function, and help maintain oral health. However, the suitability of implant dentures can vary depending on individual factors such as bone density and overall oral health, so it is essential to consult with a qualified dentist or prosthodontist so they can determine the best treatment option for each specific patient’s needs.
“Every year the number of Americans missing teeth is on the rise. And around the world, tooth loss is a common condition. Around 50% of the population is missing at least 1 tooth — or around 178 million Americans. Forty million Americans and 250 million people in Asia are missing all of their natural teeth! This increase is caused by many factors — caries or cavities, tooth infections, periodontal disease, and medication-induced dry mouth. This increase is also due to the rise in the percentage of people over the age of 65 in Europe and the United States as the Baby Boomer population continues to age. The good news is today we have better options for replacing missing teeth to improve quality of life.”
Step 1: Determine the Position of the Dental Implants on the Digital Treatment Planning Software
After reviewing your 3D CAT scan to evaluate the amount of bone and the number of dental implants that can be placed, a surgical guide will be made based on the denture tooth setup. This will allow the dental implants to be positioned correctly underneath the denture teeth for an ideal result.
Step 2: Place the Dental Implant Using A Surgical Guide and Deliver Temporary Dentures
The surgical guide will be used to place between two and four dental implants in the jawbone depending on the treatment plan. After the surgery is completed, temporary dentures will be lined with a soft material for added comfort. The soft reline will also improve the fit of the temporary dentures and prevent excessive pressure on the dental implants as they heal.
Step 3: Deliver Your New Implant Dentures
After 4 months of healing, a final impression of the dental implants and gums will be made to begin making the implant denture. After the dentures have been made, the implant dentures will “snap” on to the dental implants providing a stable, retentive denture with natural-looking denture teeth.
The DFW Dental Implant Center office is truly unique because unlike most dental implant centers that only focus on implant dentistry, they realize everyone does not need a dental implant or a full set of replacement teeth. BY MARY MACDOWELL SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK
Love. Family. Ambition. Betrayal. Welcome to the People’s Theatre. Shakespeare Dallas, the beacon of North Texas’ professional theatre scene, has been bringing these timeless themes to life for almost 50 years. They firmly believe that Shakespeare is for everyone, and their offerings reflect this inclusive spirit. From fun and accessible indoor and outdoor theatre to integrated school programs and cultural enrichment, they cater to people of all ages and backgrounds. For many, interacting with Shakespeare Dallas is a tradition that has crossed generations—fostering a sense of belonging and delighting guests since its founding. ..................................................................................................................................................................
It all began in 1972 when long-time Dallas actor, director, producer, and author Bob Glenn was inspired to bring Shakespeare to the masses. He performed his free, one-man version of “Hamlet” at Dallas’ Fair Park, and thus, a theatre company was born. Initially known as the Shakespeare Festival of Dallas, it has evolved into the area’s premier theatre company performing Shakespeare. Today, it is best known as Shakespeare in the Park—a name that evokes nostalgia and anticipation in the hearts of many.
..................................................................................................................................................................
The company performs entirely produced plays featuring classically trained actors each summer and fall. Their outdoor performance series is held at Samuell-Grand Amphitheatre in East Dallas. Home to the Dallas Shakespeare Festival, this outdoor theater is located amid rolling hills and permanent floral landscapes with plush grass seating. With a pleasing, family-friendly setting, affordable ticket price, and the ability to bring in your own food and beverages, Shakespeare in the Park has been a staple of many North Texan’s cultural experiences for years. In recent years, the company added a Winter Season held at Moody Performance Hall in the Dallas Arts District.
Shakespeare Dallas is not just about live performances. They are equally dedicated to education and community engagement. In addition to their indoor and outdoor productions, they offer a diverse range of in-person and digital educational programming for grades 2 to 12. These School and Youth Education Programs include summer camps, after-school drama classes, and special Student Matinees with post-performance talkbacks and educator resources. WHAT: 52ND SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK FESTIVAL PRESENTS:
FROM THE ODYSSEY
By Mary Zimmerman, adapted from the translation of “The Odyssey” by Robert Fitzgerald and directed by Danielle Georgiou, Justin Locklear, and Jenni Stewart A modern young woman is struggling to understand Robert Fitzgerald's translation of Homer’s The Odyssey when suddenly a Greek muse appears, and the young woman becomes the goddess Athena and a tireless advocate for Odysseus in his struggle to get home. Watch as the epic story of Odysseus's ten-year journey with characters such as Circe, the Cyclops, Poseidon, Calypso, the Sirens, and others unfolds!
By Shakespeare Dallas and Directed by Rob Clare Hilarity ensues in this classic Shakespeare romantic comedy through a classic case of mistaken identity. When Viola and her twin brother Sebastian are shipwrecked on the African coast and believe the other to be drowned, Viola disguises herself as a young man and, under the name of Cesario, gets a job as a servant for the Duke, Orsino. This production is set in the 1930s and is perfect for those who want a more modern version of Shakespeare.

Firework Fruit Wands
Looking for an adorable addition to any 4th of July party? Make my Firework Fruit Wands! You don’t even need to know how to cook to be the star of any potluck with this cute 5-minute recipe. Don’t cut the watermelon slices too thick or it’ll be difficult to cut out into stars. Don’t cut the slices too thin or they’ll break easily. An inch or a little less is perfect for your slices. You could use one size of cookie cutter but I think an assortment of stars is adorable. I threw a pool party for my family and then served these alongside some sliders and potato salad. These would even be adorable as part of a 4th of July breakfast! My little niece loved her firework wand! Obviously, keep a close eye on littles when eating these, as skewers do have a sharp point.
INGREDIENTS
1 whole watermelon
1 pint blueberries

Keller’s newest eatery is a modern tea room that’s already become a beloved retreat for locals and visitors alike. This whimsical establishment, known for its Alice in Wonderland-esque ambiance, is renowned for chicken salad and egg salad croissants, an impressive selection of teas and memorable tea service.
Owner Patti Gibson says Pattea Lou’s has been her dream for over a decade. “I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, but I needed something more to fill my cup,” says Patti.
She says after years of steadfast prayer, God lit her path and ideas began flowing like water. “We live in a world of so much negativity, so much unhappiness and loss. Once I began to make plans for my business, I realized life needs more happy, more positivity, more hope.” Originally, Patti Lou’s was intended to be just a small retail space with a tea cafe providing space to sit and chill, cozy up with a book or maybe catch up with a friend. “I wanted to uplift people, promote positivity and kindness,” says Patti. However, once she began researching tea and tea rooms, the plan took a little detour and Pattea Lou's became so much more—a sanctuary where people can escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and indulge in moments of magic.
Pattea Lou’s has two aspects. During normal business hours you can walk in and enjoy one of their dozens of teas, hot or iced, a pastry or a complete lunch plate with sandwich, chips and a little sweet treat. It should be noted here, as a parent that is working from home this summer, Pattea Lou’s is an excellent place to escape if you need to work away from the kids for a bit. They have a sizeable charging bar and lots of caffeinated options.
The menu at the tea room features what you would expect at such, but reimagined even better. My not-to-bemissed items here are undoubtedly the chicken salad croissant and the bacon rosemary scone. The chicken salad, while being nostalgic in flavor, takes on a new refreshing texture with very finely chopped green apple and green bell pepper. Each bite includes all flavors as opposed to the traditional, chunky, what-am-I-going to get next style. The bacon rosemary scone is an unexpected savory twist on an otherwise sweet treat. It’s a perfect on-the-go breakfast or lighter lunch. The bacon provides a little saltiness. The gruyere cheese provides a creaminess. Craisins throw in a bit of sweetness and the rosemary provides that finish you were not expecting.
In addition to its exceptional pastries and sandwiches, the tea room boasts an extensive selection of teas—featuring over 20 varieties from around the world. Whether you prefer a classic English Breakfast, a fragrant Earl Grey or something a little more exotic, there is something to satisfy every palate. Some of my favorites include Tea in Mexico, a smooth black tea with a creamy, nutty coconut finish, and the Fresh Cucumber and Lemon. This uncaffeinated tea features refreshing cucumber and bright lemon flavor with subtle notes of apple and hints of spicy ginger. And for the little ones you might have in tow this summer, their Bubblegum tea is a fan fave. It combines caramel with strawberry and lemon undertones to create a taste sensation for the younger set.
The second aspect to Pattea Lou’s is, that on select days, you can make reservations for traditional afternoon tea service—a tea party, if you will.
One of the tea room’s most cherished offerings, these events have become a highlight for many, providing the perfect opportunity for friends and family to gather and celebrate special occasions or simply enjoy each other’s company with a little extra pomp and circumstance. The tea parties are a feast for the senses, featuring an array of finger sandwiches, scones and a selection of fresh seasonal pastries and cakes, all accompanied by a pot of the guest’s favorite tea.
The tables are set with fine china and fresh flowers, adding an extra touch of elegance to the experience. In a world that often feels hurried and impersonal, Pattea Lou’s Tea House stands out as a place where people can slow down, connect, and enjoy the simple pleasures of good food and great tea. Whether you’re in the mood for a leisurely lunch or a festive tea party, be sure to visit this enchanting tea room and discover the magic for yourself.
