HOW THE TOPS IN TARRANT WINNERS ARE CHOSEN: The Society Life ‘Tops in Tarrant’ list is a result of a website-based survey from the 4th quarter (October, November, December) of 2024 requesting suggestions for the top local leaders of each listed industry. The 100 industry categories were chosen by the Society Life magazine editorial staff. It was suggested that any business who serves the residents of Northeast Tarrant County was eligible—including, but not limited to, Society Life magazine advertisers. If any business was nominated for multiple industries, it appears under only one industry as decided by the Society Life staff. There are no duplicate business listings allowed—each business may appear only once in the Top 100 which includes only the Top nomination under each of the 100 industry categories. The final numbers are confidential and anonymous. The resulting list in this issue reflects the companies who received the most votes from the final survey nominations. All of the listings are alphabetical by their respective industry category—they are not listed by number of votes or any other such ranking or order.

Being the best of anything requires training, knowledge of the craft, and a positive attitude. It also requires an enormous amount of commitment, and most importantly — courage. Courage in our abilities, and more so in God’s, Who promised us that our “gift will make room for us” (Proverbs 18:16).
Romans 12:6 informs us that we all have differing gifts and are expected to use them according to the grace given to us. In 2 Timothy 3:17, we learn that we are each “outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work,” suggesting we should never covet another person’s gift, but operate in our own. We must “stir up” our unique gift(s), using them to glorify God by blessing others (2 Timothy 1:6). Keep in mind—the smallest feats can leave the greatest footprints.
In 1 Samuel 13:14, God recognized David’s diligence. Yet in 1 Samuel 16:11, we learn that his family viewed him as insignificant. To the average person, being disregarded could be discouraging, but God provides reassurance (verse 13) by reminding us that even when we are not someone’s first choice—we are His. In Acts 13:22, God identified David as “...a man after my own heart, who will do everything I want him to do.” God rewards our faithfulness, regardless if others think we deserve it. (1 Samuel 26:23).
Case in point: 1 Samuel 17 involves much chattering, and David himself has questions after arriving to camp. As far as he was concerned, he was inquiring about a promotion (verses 26-32). When he couldn’t get the answers he was seeking, he approached King Saul.
David discovered that Saul’s army was intimidated by Goliath the giant—even the king trembled in his boots. But David was not swayed by Goliath’s size and sought to slay the oversized bully. Though small in stature, David was packed with courage. After all, he had already experienced victory with a bear and a lion. How much more ferocious could a “man” be?
Well, how the story ends is well-known. Both rivals arrive at the agreed site. One glance at David, and Goliath begins to laugh and taunt. But he didn’t laugh for long—while Goliath was giggling, David was slinging. He hit Goliath’s head in the perfect spot, knocking him to the ground and to his eventual death. David’s unwavering faith in God allowed him to downplay his boyishness and overtake the giant before him.
When we place our trust in God, He assists us in overcoming obstacles. His guiding Hand will place a tally mark in the win column. As Believers, we are to “test [our] own work, so then [our] reason to boast will be in [ourself] alone and not in [our] neighbor” (Galatians 6:4). That’s exactly what David did when he refused to use Saul’s armor—he had great success with his own tools. His slingshot had always worked in the past. There was no need to “test” Saul’s equipment, because its effectiveness
had not been proven. Wearing armor “fit” for a king does not guarantee victory. If that were the case, Saul would have been brave enough to fight Goliath himself.
The story of David teaches us that even when we start without the best of circumstances, God gives us an opportunity to “become” the best. We accomplish this by trusting that God is on our side, and that He always gives us the proper tools to face the giants in our lives. As we embrace the new year, let us be “bold and courageous” (Joshua 1:9) and determine in our hearts that we are “well able to overcome any obstacles we may face” (Numbers 13:30). Let’s use the gift(s) we have (1 Peter 4:10), make the most of every opportunity (Ephesians 5:16), and do everything as unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23).
Finally, “Don’t allow anyone to look down on you because of your youth (or your circumstances), but be an example and set a pattern for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in [moral] purity (1 Timothy 4:12).
Lest we forget, David began his journey as a shepherd boy and became an ancestor of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It doesn’t get any better than that!
– Have the Best Year Ever!

In “Love Remembers” author Kathe Ambrose Goodwin invites us along as she and her family navigate the choppy waters of her husband’s life with Alzheimer’s Disease. This experience proved an educational one, including the definition of the word “fiblet” and the four magic distractions: children, music, sweets and animals.
Their experience began when Kathe’s husband Steve started having trouble on the job. He had worked for years as a renowned attorney in Dallas, accomplished and admired. In the spring of 2015, Steve’s colleagues began to notice that he couldn’t mentally track their discussions. His comments often seemed out of context.
Kathe was horrified, of course, but not greatly surprised. For a period of about two years, she had watched while Steve had more and more trouble finding the appropriate words to express himself.
A gifted writer, Kathe describes their journey, with emotional, physical and spiritual aspects that bring it into sharp focus for the reader. Her ability to discuss this struggle in clear and flowing language makes it accessible and very readable.
The family had previous experience with dementia. In her later years Kathe’s mother sometimes asked about her own mother, who had passed away decades earlier. Her family explained that her mom was held up in traffic or at the store and would arrive soon. Kathe learned, in an Alzheimer’s support group, that this kind of coping was called a “fiblet, and served as a much kinder and gentler way of helping than the cold, hard truth.”
Kathe depended heavily on her faith as she and her two children, Angela and Stephen, continued to love Steve through this loss. Each chapter begins with a passage of scripture and Kathe often illustrates how God came to their rescue or provided in ways they did not expect.
She also takes time to focus on the joys of this time in her life. Both children married and gifted her with grandsons after Steve moved into a memory care facility.
This book effectively combines the losses and sorrows, as well as the gifts and joys that fill our lives. It would make a caring and thoughtful gift for anyone dealing with a diagnosis of dementia.
Alzheimer’s is a merciless thief, but it can’t steal love.

Grapevine Colleyville Southlake Moms League invites you to don your finest for “The Queen’s Ball,” the 2025 black-tie gala, scheduled for April 5th at The Bowden in Keller. “We are honored to support the incredible work of Stepping Stones Foundation,” said Meg Brandon Garman of Colleyville, a member of the Moms League. “Each year, we select a deserving organization to champion, and we hope our community will join us in making a meaningful impact.” With a Bridgerton-inspired theme, the gala will raise funds for Stepping Stones—a North Texas 501c3 that’s dedicated to empowering youth in crisis. Since its founding in 2009, Stepping Stones has provided critical resources such as food, housing, and job support to at-risk teens. “As mothers, we want to uplift all children and ensure they have support they need to thrive,” said Katie Cassell of Keller, co-chair of the gala. “Today’s youth face immense challenges and we’re committed to being part of the solution.” GCS Moms League, a thriving group of nearly 300 North Texas mothers, is celebrating its 31st year fostering friendship, philanthropy and community. League activities include educational events, philanthropic initiatives, children’s playgroups and social gatherings. Last year’s gala raised over $75,000 for Christ’s Haven for Children. This year’s event will feature an elegant evening of dinner, drinks, raffles live auction and dancing. Special guest and local author Tamika Taylor will emcee the night’s festivities. Sponsorship opportunities are available, offering individuals and businesses a chance to support a life-changing cause.

Advisors take the time to explain various options and encourage clients to discuss these with their families before making decisions. Clients feel supported, valued, and empowered to make sound decisions. This collaborative approach not only builds trust, but also helps to ensure that financial plans are well-received and effectively implemented. “We’re just here to talk to people. You’re not going to come in here and feel like you’re at the dentist or at a used car dealership,” describes Wealth Advisor Kyle Imhof. “We’re people just like you. We have families, lives, and we know how deeply personal money matters are, so we understand what’s at stake when you come to us.” It’s this kind of intimacy with information that makes this relationship similar to one you have with a family doctor. Just as your primary care physician takes the time to understand your unique needs and concerns, runs labs to get a complete picture of your health, and coordinates every aspect of care, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® similarly has full knowledge of your progress toward retirement goals, tax bracket, liquidity needs, composition of assets, and more.
Unfortunately, it’s been observed in client discussions that many investment brokers who do not hold a CFP® designation (and who have not created an actual written financial plan) will immediately prescribe investments to a client, sometimes benefiting the broker more than the client. As fiduciaries, Focus Partners Wealth Advisors are legally and ethically required to act in your best interests ahead of their own. Think of it as having a financial “guardian” who prioritizes your needs and goals above all else.
Before these types of situations even arise, advisors may offer the kind of foresight that could mitigate these kinds of situations. “Having emergency reserves or liquidity is the cornerstone of any solid financial plan,” counsels Clintsman. “Without it, you're setting yourself up for potential trouble down the road.” Sharing this kind of foundational knowledge, coupled with the fiduciary framework, can go a long way to cement trust and strengthen peace-of-mind.
(continued)
Financial planning can be very complex, even for the savviest among us, but especially for those who need it most. When building a comprehensive financial plan, an advisor must address all aspects of a client’s life. The advisor evaluates every dynamic, from estate planning to investments, risk management planning, education planning, tax planning, and even charitable planning. As in all facets of a client’s financial well-being, it’s about understanding the bigger picture to better address the smaller implications.
“It may start with crunching numbers, but in the end, it's really about what truly matters to our clients,” says Wealth Advisor Greg Lanier. “We get to know our clients and their specific life situations to understand their best way forward and ensure that they feel comfortable in their financial decisions.”
A culture of integrity, high ethical standards, and fiduciary responsibility is woven into the very fabric of Focus Partners. This drives them to continuously improve and evolve, ensuring that they remain at the forefront of their industry. Clients benefit from an enhanced suite of services due to Focus Partners ‘ever-growing resources, promising that all aspects of their financial health are meticulously addressed. At the core of their work is a deep-seated passion to serve. Advisors at Focus Partners Wealth believe in the power of collaboration and teamwork, eschewing silos and territorial boundaries to harness the collective intelligence and experience of the team.
“What sets Focus Partners apart is the incredible team of people who are here to support each other and see everyone thrive,” says Wealth Advisor Mandy Sessler. “It’s a culture of genuine care and collaboration.”
The key elements of the Southlake team at Focus Partners are a client-centric culture—including a strong emphasis on mutual respect, leading with empathy and support—and the faith-based values that have always been at its core. These contribute to long-lasting client relationships.
Focus Partners sees themselves as more than just a financial planning firm—they are a community of trust and support. The firm’s commitment to transparency, client education, and empathy sets them apart. Clients are not just numbers on a spreadsheet—they are individuals with unique stories and aspirations. By taking the time to understand this, Focus Partners strives to make their financial plans effective and deeply personal. “Money is just a tool,” admits Imhof. “Ultimately, relationships are what matter."
While financial planning can often feel impersonal and transactional, Focus Partners Wealth stands out as a firm that truly cares about their clients. Their commitment to fostering deep, trusting partnerships, emphasis on transparency and education, and holistic approach to financial planning make them a standout choice for anyone looking for help to secure their financial future. Whether you are just starting your financial journey or looking to refine your existing plan, you can be sure to have a partner that’s focused on what truly matters for your financial well-being.

(1) In Case of Emergencies, Liquidity is Key:
Don’t get caught without quick access to cash or assets that can be easily converted to cash. Build an emergency fund and maintain readily accessible access to savings.
(2) Protection Is Peace-of-Mind:
Not having proper insurance is too big of a risk. Talk to your CFP® and a qualified insurance professional about life insurance and other important protective policies. Above all, don’t go without health insurance.
(3) Estate Planning Isn’t Only for the Rich:
Ensure your assets are distributed according to your wishes and protect your loved ones. You can start by creating a basic will with a qualified estate attorney.
(4) Know How Much You’re Putting Away:
Contributing to a 401K or IRA? Don’t just wing it and hope it’s enough. Work with a planner and be strategic.
(5) Know How Much Your Portfolio Is Earning:
Rates of return can’t be controlled, but at least know the number you’re aiming for so you can structure your investments accordingly.
Focus Partners Wealth invites you to take the first step toward financial clarity. Schedule some time to get to know us and discover how a tailored financial plan can empower your future.

Following God’s direction, Inspire Academy was founded on Christian principles. All four of Dr. Dana’s children struggled with dyslexia and dysgraphia and also had secondary challenges of anxiety and ADHD. Passionate to meet the needs of not only her own children, she created Inspire Academy—a Christian learning environment for intelligent yet ‘outside the box’ students. Believing all children are “...unique, marvelously made by God,” Inspire Academy was created to provide a Christian school for the language learning challenges and emotional secondary symptoms that have resulted from previous school environments that failed to meet the fundamental needs of the student.

Texans on Mission is a 501c3 non-profit organization (formerly known as TBM – Texas Baptist Men, Inc.) that transforms the lives of people in crisis through disaster relief and water ministry. Texans on Mission mobilizes Christian volunteers to impact the world by sharing God’s love and discipling the next generation to do likewise. Texans on Mission seeks to develop and send out an unending stream of volunteers to deliver help, hope and healing in the name of Christ to hurting people in Texas, across the United States and around the world.
THEY'RE ON MISSION FOR CHRIST... TOGETHER
In a world full of pain and hurt, God calls His people to be beacons of light. Since 1967, Texans on Mission—historically called Texas Baptist Men—have sought to do just that by meeting needs and sharing God’s love with millions of people during their most difficult days. These Christian volunteers have served after hurricanes, tornadoes, fertilizer plant explosions, floods, a pandemic, and more. Texans on Mission volunteers walk alongside those
who are suffering and change the world one act of service and compassion at a time. By meeting crucial needs after a disaster, providing clean drinking water for people around the globe and undertaking construction projects, volunteers share God’s love with hurting people in Texas, across the U.S. and around the world.
Since 1967, volunteers have delivered help, hope and healing to millions of hurting people and raising up the next generation and discipling them to do likewise.
As a result of that service, the nonprofit organization has helped start and train disaster relief groups in all 50 states, and giving birth to the third-largest disaster relief network in the nation.
Texans on Mission seeks to develop and send out an unending stream of volunteers to deliver help, hope and healing in the name of Christ to hurting people in Texas, across the United States and around the world.
Texans on Mission mobilizes Christian volunteers to impact the world by sharing God’s love and discipling the next generation to do likewise.
Texans on Mission is a Christian ministry. As such, the staff and volunteers affirm the following core values and beliefs:
.....................................................................
• Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came into the world, born of a virgin. He lived a sinless life and died on the cross for the sins of the world. He rose again to give us eternal life and is alive today interceding for those who place their faith in Him alone as Savior and Lord.
• Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven.
• Each of us should have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
You can help bring spiritual and physical healing to hurting people. Texans on Mission helps put lives back together. They give structure and process to channel volunteer work into productive assistance for people in need. They don’t just jump and do what they want to do. They find out the specific needs and then connect volunteers with ways to meet those needs in an organized and helpful manner—passion to serve, structure to be effective, effort to change lives.
Texans on Mission has responded to every major natural disaster in Texas since 1967 and many beyond it, including the Southeast Asia tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, the September 11th terrorist attacks, and currently the wildfires raging throughout Southern California,. Through a diverse array of ministries, their volunteers have provided the calm after the storm for millions of people.
Water Impact initiatives are systematically placed where the greatest water need is. They are sustainable and provide an entire community-wide structure that catalyzes long-term change. And Gospel-centered, always beginning with a village Bible study led by local leaders.
The organization’s Builders volunteers empower churches, camps and other ministries to accomplish their God-given visions of expanding the kingdom of God. Over the past 20 years, members have had their hands in the construction of more than 1,600 church and camp facilities— saving these ministries millions of dollars in construction costs.
Student Discipleship helps churches transform their communities by empowering youth to do more for others outside of
their church walls and equipping students with the tools that they need to become disciples of Christ.
Royal Ambassadors began as an organization in 1908. Since then, over 2.5 million boys and their leaders have participated in RAs and learned how to help others in Jesus’ name. Throughout the years, countless lives have been changed as boys and their leaders have prayed for, given to and participated in mission projects. Royal Ambassadors is engaging young men in God’s work around the world.
God calls His people to serve locally, across the nation and to the ends of the earth. You can read stories online featuring how Texans on Mission volunteers have answered God’s call to deliver help, hope and healing to thousands of people all over the globe.

Astra Lumina Dallas is presented by Fever. With a mission to democratize access to culture and entertainment in real life through its platform, Fever inspires users to enjoy unique local experiences and events, from immersive exhibitions, interactive theatrical experiences, and festivals to molecular cocktail pop-ups, while empowering creators with data and technology to create and expand experiences across the world.
WHAT: Astra Lumina Dallas is an immersive one-mile enchanted night walk amongst the stars that’s created by Moment Factory and presented by Fever in association with Secret Media Network. Astra Lumina Dallas is the 23rd experience in the Lumina Night Walk series and was created by the visionary minds at Moment Factory. Blurring the lines between the real, the imagined, and the digital allows Moment Factory to unlock new ways to tell stories, engage the senses, and elicit strong, lasting emotions. The stars are descending from the night sky. Set off across mysterious grounds to discover a celestial pathway of lustrous light, cosmic visions, and astral song. Immerse yourself in illuminating encounters of lighting, projection and sound, and connect with the stars before they return to the sky above. Successful immersive experiences achieve this through the precise, often imperceptible orchestration of tangible and intangible elements—music, motion, video, lighting, architecture, and special effects merged into one seamless, unified whole. When done right, audiences are fully immersed, living the experience rather than merely observing it and connecting with each other and the world around them in new and unexpected ways. Through the magic of projections, lighting, and music, astral energy transforms the Trinity Adventure Forest into a celestial pathway, connecting visitors to the stars and the vast world. Guests will also find snacks, beverages, and cool merch for sale.

THE ROSE TABLE
I designed this board with a charming heart-shaped dish of rich chocolate ganache at the center. After all, what embodies Valentine’s Day more than dipping fresh fruit into warm, velvety chocolate and fluffy whipped cream? You can choose any fruit you love, but I found that strawberries, raspberries, and bananas created the most delightful presentation.
Besides the chocolate ganache, whipped cream and fruits, I also included pretzels and pound cake hearts. To make the heart, I stood store bought pound cake up on one end, then sliced it in half and each half again. Each slice gives you 3-4 hearts depending on the size of your cookie cutter. I filled the board in with assorted heart-shaped chocolates and chocolatecovered popcorn. What’s cute about this board is you can not only dip goodies into chocolate, but also build your own pound cake dessert. Pro tip: build the board first, then make the ganache. The ganache takes about three minutes to make, but you want to dip your goodies in it while it’s warm, so do it last when you’re ready to serve. Possibilities are endless. For instance, marshmallows, shortbread cookies, and Valentine’s Day-colored m&ms would be adorable.
Chocolate ganache (recipe follows)
Whipped cream (recipe follows)
Pound cake
Strawberries
Raspberries
Banana slices
Pretzel rods
Chocolate-covered popcorn
Assorted heart-shaped chocolates (such as Reese’s and Ghirardelli)
Also adorable: marshmallows, Valentine’s Day M&Ms, apple slices, rice Krispy treats, shortbread cookies, or anything else you love dipped in chocolate!
(1) Slice poundcake into slices, then use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out pound cake hearts out of each slice.
(2) Build the board, starting with a container for the ganache and your pound cake hearts. Add piles of fruit and heart-shaped chocolates.
..........................................................................................
(3) Whip the cream according to recipe below and spoon onto board. Tuck chocolate-covered popcorn or Valentine’s Day M&Ms around the board to fill it in.
(4) Finally, make the ganache according to the recipe below, pour it into the container, and serve immediately.
4 oz dark chocolate, chopped 1/2 cup heavy cream ..........................................................................................
(1) Finely chop chocolate and place in a glass bowl. Heat cream in the stove or in the microwave just until it starts to bubble. Pour warm cream over the chocolate pieces. Let sit for one minute, then whisk until smooth and glossy. Transfer to serving dish.
WHIPPED CREAM INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup whipping cream
2 Tbsp powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
(1) Whip ingredients together with a whisk in a metal bowl until soft peaks form.
REVIEW BY JENNIFER SLOAN
Rock & Brews, the rock ‘n’ roll-themed restaurant co-founded by KISS frontmen Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, has been making waves in Texas with its recent expansion. The first location in the Grandscape area of the Colony was kind of a hike for us Tarrant County folk, but a Grapevine location, which opened last July, offers the same dynamic dining experience that combines classic American cuisine with a vibrant, music-driven atmosphere.
The menu at Rock & Brews Grapevine features an extensive representation of American classics, each prepared with a—let’s call it Rock & Roll—twist and fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Guests can start with some familiar, yet elevated, appetizers, such as their SGT. Pepper’s Handcrafted Jalapeño Poppers, Crispy Calamari, or the Sweet & Spicy Asian Wings. My not-to-be missed “opening act,” which I actually like to get as my meal so I don’t have to share, is the BBQ Nachos. It features seasoned corn tortilla chips, topped
with chile con queso, Monterey jack and cheddar cheese, lime crema, fresh cilantro and your choice of Memphis BBQ pulled pork or grilled chicken— both variations are spectacular.
For the main course, options include the Baby Back Ribs, Sweet Heat Fried Chicken and a variety of craft burgers. One local favorite is Alice Cooper’s Poison Burger. It features a brioche bun, pepper cheese spread, “reaper” ranch (read: very spicy), fresh fried jalapeños, crispy onion strings and a dose of Alice Cooper Poison Hot Sauce. Salad enthusiasts might enjoy the Hot Chick Salad or share a Front Row Pizza. Rock & Brews also caters to dietary preferences by offering both vegetarian and gluten-free choices.
Complementing the food is an extensive drink menu that includes over 40 craft beers on tap from local, national and international breweries. Signature cocktails and a wide selection of bourbons and tequilas are also available. For
gin drinkers, the Bee’s G’s Knees is an expert blend of Beefeater Gin, blackberries, blueberries, basil, honey and aquafaba. For the Bourbon bunch, the Nu Fashioned is a fun spin on an old classic blending 1792 Small Batch Bourbon, cinnamon simple syrup, orange bitters, Amarena Toschi black cherry and orange peel. My not-to-bemissed cocktail is for the tequila lovers. The Strawberry Basil Margarita goes down way too smooth with Familia Camarena Reposado Tequila, Cointreau, fresh strawberry and basil with agave nectar. It’s subtly sweet with a savory finish.
Grapevine location boasts a spacious interior with 7,000 sq. ft. of indoor seating and an additional 5,500 sq. ft. of kid and pet-friendly indoor/outdoor patio space. The decor immerses guests in a 360-degree rock ‘n’ roll experience,
featuring iconic rock art, concert lighting and large screens displaying rock videos and sports events. Live music is a staple, with performances scheduled multiple times a week, enhancing the energetic atmosphere.
Building on success of the Grapevine venue, Rock & Brews is set to open a new location in the Alliance area in 2025. This expansion reflects the brand’s commitment to bringing its unique blend of dining and entertainment to more communities. Alliance Rock & Brews promises to deliver similar amenities—including a diverse menu, extensive beverage options, live music and a rock-inspired ambiance. If you’re a rock ‘n’ roll enthusiast or just looking for a lively place to enjoy a meal, Rock & Brews provides an atmosphere where music and dining exist in perfect harmony.
