Mothers
Few roles shape the heart of a family — and a community — quite like motherhood. Long before modern parenting books and social media advice, the Bible told stories of women who loved fiercely, prayed faithfully and trusted God even in seasons of uncertainty and heartbreak. Their journeys were not perfect, polished or easy. They were real women navigating fear, sacrifice, waiting and hope. Yet through their faithfulness, God used them to shape generations and fulfill extraordinary purposes.
In the wake of Mother’s Day, Scripture offers a beautiful reminder that motherhood is not defined by perfection, but by perseverance, compassion and trust in God’s plan. Throughout the Bible, mothers emerge not only as caregivers, but spiritual anchors whose prayers, courage and devotion changed the course of history.
One of the most well-known examples is Mary, the mother of Jesus. When the angel Gabriel told her she would give birth to the Savior, her response reflected remarkable humility and faith: “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled” (Luke 1:38). Mary could not have fully understood the challenges ahead, yet she chose obedience over fear. From the manger to the foot of the cross, she remained steadfast in her love and devotion to her son.
Hannah’s story in 1 Samuel is another powerful portrait of motherhood shaped through prayer and surrender. After years of infertility and heartbreak, Hannah cried out to God for a child. Scripture says she prayed “in deep
anguish” (1 Samuel 1:10). When God answered her prayer with the birth of Samuel, Hannah honored her promise by dedicating him back to the Lord. Her story reminds us that some of the deepest acts of motherhood involve trusting God with the very children He has entrusted to us.
Then there is Jochebed, the mother of Moses, whose courage saved her son’s life during one of Israel’s darkest seasons. In Exodus 2, she hid her infant son from Pharaoh’s deadly decree before placing him in a basket along the Nile River, trusting God to protect him. That act of faith preserved the life of the man who would one day lead the Israelites out of slavery. Jochebed’s example speaks to every mother who has faced uncertainty while doing everything possible to protect and guide her children.
The Bible also celebrates the quiet strength and wisdom of mothers in everyday life. Proverbs 31 describes a woman clothed “with strength and dignity” whose children “arise and call her blessed” (Proverbs 31:25,
28). Her value is not measured by perfection, but by character, integrity and the love she pours into her family and community.
Motherhood, whether biological, adoptive, spiritual or chosen through mentorship, has always carried sacred influence. Many women nurture, guide and encourage others without ever hearing the word “Mom,” yet their impact is no less meaningful. Scripture continually points to the power of faithful women whose compassion and wisdom leave lasting legacies. Stories of mothers throughout the Bible continue to offer hope and encouragement in every season of life. For some, motherhood is answered prayers and celebration. For others, it carries seasons of grief, waiting or heartache. Yet Scripture reminds us time and again that God walks beside women through both joy and struggle, providing strength, comfort and purpose along the way. Perhaps that is the lasting beauty woven throughout motherhood— ordinary women placing their trust in an extraordinary God and impacting generations through faithful love one day at a time.

Q: Can I Challenge my Divorce Decree?
Understanding Appeals in Family Law Cases

A: If you’re going through family court, you are likely experiencing one of the hardest moments of your life. It’s common to feel frustrated or even shocked by the court’s decision — whether it involves property division, custody, child support, or another intimate part of your life. If you disagree with the outcome, you can appeal. But there are some important things to understand first.
1. PREPARATION MATTERS
A successful appeal starts before you ever go to trial. This is because the appellate court looks at what happened at the trial level to determine whether “harmful error” occurred. Also, you must first tell the trial court of the error before you can raise it on appeal. If the trial wasn’t done right the first time, it makes winning an appeal harder. That’s why it can help to involve an appellate lawyer early on.
2. THE APPELLATE PROCESS
Every case is unique, but the main steps in any appeal are (1) you file a notice of appeal, (2) the court prepares the record, (3) you file a brief explaining why the decision was wrong, and then (4) the appellate court reviews everything and makes a decision. Sometimes the court has oral arguments, where the justices who decide the case ask questions to better understand complex facts or legal issues, but no new evidence is presented. This entire process can sometimes take up to two years. And if either side appeals to the supreme court, it could take even longer.
3. THE APPELLATE COURT’S DECISION
The appellate court looks at what happened in the trial court to determine error. Factual issues are usually left up to the judge or jury, making these issues more difficult to challenge. Legal issues are reviewed without regard to what the trial court did, making these easier to challenge. Usually, even if an error occurred, it must be harmful, meaning it was significant enough to require a new trial.
4. AFTER YOU WIN
Once you win your appeal, the case is usually sent back to the same trial judge for a new trial. The appellate court cannot make a new property division or custody arrangement. For some legal issues, the appellate court can issue a new ruling.
5. WHAT DOES AN APPEAL COST?
Because every case is different, there’s no set cost. Factors like length of the trial, issues involved, complexity, and others can dramatically change the cost. Discuss these with your attorney and determine whether the potential costs are worth the risk and reward. Would it cost more to appeal than what you could get in a new trial? Are you willing to be in front of the same judge in a new trial? Or are there potentially better options, like modifying custody later?
You have the right to appeal. Discussing these issues with an experienced appellate lawyer can help you understand your options and decide what is best for your situation.

Southlake Women’s Club celebrated the final monthly luncheon of its milestone 40th anniversary year on Friday at The Westin Dallas Southlake. The event brought together SWC members and community supporters for an afternoon focused on fellowship, philanthropy, and recognition of service. Festivities included a raffle and live auction with proceeds benefiting the club’s philanthropic outreach programs, and an interactive Name-That-Tune trivia game hosted by a live DJ. The purplethemed luncheon was sponsored by Randy White Real Estate Services and Sterling Renovations. During the business portion of the luncheon, club leaders reflected on the organization’s major annual initiatives and community impact. Highlights included the continued success of Art in the Square, the School Supply Sale benefiting Carroll Independent School District campuses, and the Scholarship Committee’s selection of this year’s five graduating seniors to receive need-based educational assistance. Members also celebrated the club’s newly adopted stretch of Continental Boulevard as part of the Keep Southlake Beautiful program. The incoming 2026–27 Board of Directors was introduced and will be led by incoming President Minta Kulas. A highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of the club’s prestigious Member of the Year award. Club members selected Karen Malone for the honor alongside fellow nominees Minta Kulas and Mary Catherine Thampi. Malone has served multiple terms as treasurer for both the club and the Southlake Women’s Club Foundation and has chaired the Art in the Square Sponsor Party. 100 WOMEN WHO CARE N.E. TARRANT RAISES $6,000 IN 1 HOUR FOR NONPROFIT
100 Women Who Care Northeast Tarrant County hosted its second quarter giving event at the Colleyville Center, raising $6,000 in just one hour to support a local nonprofit serving the Northeast Tarrant County community. The organization’s quarterly meetings are designed to last just one hour, making it easy for busy women to make a meaningful impact in a short amount of time. The organization amplifies individual contributions into something far greater. At each quarterly meeting, members contribute $100, which is combined into a single, high-impact donation for a selected small, local nonprofit. For those who may feel that $100 alone is not enough to make a difference, this model proves otherwise—when pooled together and directed toward organizations serving a targeted geography, the impact becomes both powerful and tangible within the community.
Admission to all events is $100, which becomes the donation. Any woman can attend. Women who commit to supporting all four annual giving receive the privilege of nominating a 501c3 organization and voting to determine final recipients, ensuring a collaborative and community-driven approach to giving. The evening also featured a presentation from Amy’s Wish With Wings, the organization’s inaugural beneficiary. Executive Director Doreen Bruton shared how the group’s first-quarter donation of $5,700 funded 77 horseback riding lessons for children with diverse abilities. At the conclusion of the Q2 event, sustaining members selected Serving Our Seniors as the recipient of the $6,000 donation. Their mission is to preserve the independence and well-being of senior citizens throughout Northeast Tarrant County by providing transportation, minor home repairs, and social engagement. Serving Our Seniors Executive Director Elizabeth Grace expressed her gratitude, stating, “100 Women is incredible! The gift will be such a blessing to our area seniors.” 100 Women Who Care Northeast Tarrant County continues to grow, connecting local women who share in the belief that philanthropy does not have to be complicated.

The 2026 GCSML Great Gala: Enchanted Garden was a magical and meaningful evening dedicated to supporting the work of Stepping Stones Foundation of Keller. The sold-out event brought together generous sponsors, donors and community supporters for a night filled with heartfelt moments, and inspiring generosity—all in support of at-risk youth in the community. One of the evening’s most memorable highlights was a beautiful live butterfly release, symbolizing hope, transformation and new beginnings. Thanks to the incredible support of gala attendees and contributors, the GCS Moms League raised more than $215,000 to further the foundation’s mission and impact. The elegant Enchanted Garden-themed gala reflected the compassion and unity of the community while reminding guests of the powerful difference they can make together. Long before becoming a business owner, Jennifer developed a strong work ethic helping manage her family’s gas station, convenience store and also commercial property businesses while also working as a dental assistant and office manager. Dream Vacation | My ideal vacation is anywhere near the water with a beautiful spa, amazing food, and plenty of opportunities to experience local culture. numbers alone. Some of my proudest moments come from creating experiences that spark excitement, inspire others and connect people.
Challenges | One of the biggest challenges is that The Rose Table is a one-woman production. I develop recipes, style tablescapes, cook the food, direct and film the videos, photograph content and edit everything myself. While it’s incredibly rewarding, it can also be exhausting wearing so many hats at once. Balancing creativity with the business side of content creation requires constant dedication and adaptability.
Greatest Professional Accomplishment |
As a lifelong Disney fan, partnering with Disney has been one of the most surreal and rewarding moments of my career. When I first started my Disney Dinners series, The Rose Table had a much smaller audience, but after several episodes went viral, everything changed. Opportunities with Meta and later official collaborations with Disney helped grow the brand beyond anything I imagined and confirmed that taking creative risks can truly pay off.
Work-Home-Life
Balance | Since I work from home while also running my PR company, balance can definitely be challenging. I often work long hours because I genuinely love what I do, but I also know how important it is to disconnect and recharge. Spending time outdoors grounds me—whether I’m gardening, walking my dog or spending time with my horses. Nature helps me reset creatively and mentally.
You Should Know | Whoever said fairytales aren’t real never met me! I’m a dark chocolate lover, equestrian, gardener, Disney enthusiast, and dog mom and I believe in writing your own fairytale. On weekends I am either on a picnic blanket, taking in a show, hosting a magical themed party, or enjoying lake life. A native Texan, I love sharing my life with readers. After work I like to curl up with my dog and a glass of wine by the fire pit and cook dinner for friends.

Milestone | This year marks 25 years in business and honestly, it feels surreal. I started photography before social media even existed, before digital cameras were really mainstream, and somehow I’m still here, still evolving, still creating. I think what I’m most proud of is not just surviving in a creative industry for 25 years, but continuing to grow and reinvent myself while staying true to my style and my clients.
Beyond the Lens | I’m really leaning into elevated, experience-driven sessions and helping women feel confident in front of the camera. I also have a new branch of the brand launching soon called Savage Beauty, focused on luxury beauty and empowermentstyle portraits. It’s something I’ve dreamed about, so I’m excited to bring it to life. At the core of everything I photograph is connection and storytelling. Whether it’s a businesswoman, senior, family or dog lover, it all comes back to capturing what matters most to them.
My Advice | My best advice for any women building businesses right now is don’t wait until everything feels perfect to start. Most successful businesses are built through consistency, adaptability, and learning as you go. Also, community matters more than competition. Some of the best opportunities in my career have come through relationships and collaboration.
Something Surprising | Most people probably don’t realize that as a photographer you wear about 37 different hats besides “photographer.” You are also a marketer, editor, creative director, social media manager, salesperson, accountant, therapist, problem solver, and sometimes dog wrangler..
My Inspiration | After 25 years, I am inspired by the people. Every client has a story, a season, a reason they’re stepping in front of the camera. I still love capturing that. And as far as creatively, I’m always brainstorming new concepts, themes, and experiences. I don’t think I’m wired to stop creating.
My Superpower | My photographer superpower is getting people who “hate being photographed” to relax within about 10 minutes. Also, somehow getting dogs to stare directly into my soul on command! –

Defining Success | For me, success is when you have loyal clients who come back year after year, who respect and value your work, and that feeling you get when they love their images so much that they are near to tears.
Work-Home-Life Balance | To be honest, the edges are very blurred. I set boundaries although they are not set in stone. Part of my life surrounds dog rescue and I’m a ‘special needs and hospice’ foster for various rescues in the U.S. By it’s very nature, that role is not 9-5 and sometimes I travel long distances to bring a dog back for care. By the same token, photography commitments are not always 9-5. I pride myself on being very flexible in accommodating client needs. My day starts
early but even days I don’t need to be up, I enjoy that extra hour or two spending time with my wonderful dogs. They give me so much joy and love that it sets me up for my day—and with my 7 dogs plus two fosters that’s a whole lotta love!
Challenges | Many challenges starting anew in a foreign land. I’m British and when I moved here from England over two decades ago I was on a visa with my (also British) husband so I was allowed to live here, but not work. The first few months I could go nowhere nor do anything. It was tough, but I had my camera so it was put to good use and saved my sanity!
Giving Back | I support many dog rescues, by fostering, donating (money or my photography skills for fundraising events and calendars). My husband and I also have a small beekeeping business and 25% of all proceeds goes to various local dog rescues.
Words To Live By | Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.
What Clients Can Expect | First meeting is a fact finding exercise about what the client wants, expectations and goals. It’s a friendly, very relaxed meeting in person, or by phone. Then a follow up written communication outlining and agreeing to the shoot plan (date, time, location, costs, contingencies). It’s very fluid and efficient, and completely stressfree. I communicate well with my clients so there are no surprises. Shoots themselves are typically relaxed and most clients think they’re even fun!
At The End of a Long Day… I have all the fun I need doing my photo shoots and activities with my dogs. But if I have an hour at the end of the day, I practice my violin. A skill that I have been trying to master for years. Progress is slow, but I enjoy using a different part of my brain. My deaf fosters are my biggest fans—no judgment if I hit a wrong note!

Through videos, documentaries, blogs and social media, they work to showcase the importance of pro-life views and voices.
Diana chose life for her daughter on a Mobile Medical Clinic. “Seeing my baby…. it was really cute and I did not take my eyes off the screen and I wanted them to keep going… It’s just a miracle just watching her… because of seeing my baby on screen, it changed my perspective from abortion to adoption to keeping the baby no matter what.” More than 80 percent of abortion-minded women choose life after they see their unborn child on an ultrasound.
At Save the Storks, they understand the fear and confusion of an unplanned pregnancy. In a culture where abortion is seen as the only option, many women feel alone and unsupported. It’s one of the best times of the year — peach season in Texas! Peaches grow really well in Texas and they’re so juicy, they make every baked good insanely moist. This recipe takes about 3-4 peaches depending on the size of each fruit. You start by quartering them, then slice the quarters in half. In a pinch you could just toss the peaches in the pan, but they’re so beautiful arranged in a circle. This one-layer 8″ cake begs to be served with vanilla ice cream or freshly whipped cream. Just peachy!
PEACH UPSIDE DOWN CAKE INGREDIENTS
3-4 fresh peaches
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar (divided) 1 stick unsalted butter, at room temperature
3 large eggs, at room temperature
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 tsp baking powder
1 cup flour Serving suggestion: vanilla ice cream or whipped cream
(1) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Thoroughly grease the bottom and sides of an 8″ cake pan. Optional, but recommended: line the bottom of the pan with parchment paper and grease the parchment paper.
(3) In a small sauce pan, cook 1/2 cup of sugar with 3 Tbsp water over medium-high heat until the sugar turns an amber color. Immediately pour caramel over peaches.
(4) In medium bowl, beat butter with 1 cup of sugar until combined, then beat in eggs one at a time. Add vanilla, sprinkle flour, baking powder, and salt and mix just until combined.
(5) Spread cake batter evenly over peaches, then bake in preheated oven for 40-45 minutes. Let cool for 30 minutes, then run a knife around the edges and flip onto serving platter. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Tucked along the charming stretch of Grapevine’s Historic Main Street, Karmma and Kocktails is quickly becoming one of the area’s most buzzworthy dining destinations. I’d heard about it from more than a few people before deciding to give it a try. Truth be told, I waited so long because it was described as Indian food. The last time I ventured into the cuisine, I quickly learned that the “mild” spice level was still above my tolerance. But I couldn’t ignore the hype any longer and decided to give it a go for a moms’ night out. It wasn’t hard to drag a friend into it because it does, after all, also have “Kocktails” in the name.
The fare is technically not Indian, but rather Nepali—or from Nepal. If you need a geography refresher, Nepal is a country in southern Asia. It heavily borders India and China. This is reflected on the Karmma and Kocktails menu. You’ll quickly spot Chinese favorites, such as Fried Rice, Chow Mein and Dumplings, amongst Indian favorites, such as Naan and Tandoori Chicken. It’s easy to find something for even the weeniest of spice palates.
Our extremely helpful server said that the Crispy Momo Reloaded Dumplings are an absolute mustorder to start. Perfectly crisp on the outside with a savory, juicy filling, each bite offers a satisfying crunch followed by a burst of flavor. They’re the kind of appetizer that disappears quickly, so ordering an extra round isn’t a bad idea. Equally impressive are their Balsamic Sprouts—an elevated take on a classic vegetable. Roasted to perfection and layered with bold seasoning, these Brussels Sprouts strike that ideal balance of crunchy, slightly sweet, and deeply savory that keeps you coming back for more.
When it comes to entrées, the Butter Chicken is a standout that truly showcases the kitchen’s ability to blend comfort with sophistication. This is also a great intro to Indian food if you are a newbie. Rich, creamy, and deeply spiced, the sauce wraps around tender pieces of chicken and, though flavor-ful l, when ordered mild is not spicy at all. It’s the kind of dish that satisfies immediately yet leaves you thinking about it long after the meal ends. It
comes plated with tender white rice. However, pair it with the Fried Rice, and you’ve got a combination that rounds out your Nepali experience. The Fried Rice is anything but an afterthought—lightly crisped, flavorful, and expertly seasoned, it truly complements the Butter Chicken beautifully while holding its own as a dish worth savoring.
Of course, no visit to Karmma and Kocktails would really be complete without exploring its extensive cocktail menu. The Strawberry Lemon Drop is a crowd favorite—bright, vibrant, and just the right amount of sweet and tart. It’s refreshing and easy to sip, making it a perfect choice to kick off the evening. For those who prefer something a bit richer, the Espresso Martini is a standout.
Smooth, velvety, and perfectly balanced between coffee and cocktail, it delivers that ideal after-dinner pick-me-up with a touch of indulgence. It’s energizing and decadent, a combination that feels especially fitting once the sun goes down and the night life energy picks up.
With its stylish ambiance and oneof-a-kind menu, Karmma and Kocktails has carved out a unique space on Main Street.
