DanielgraduatedsummacumlaudewithaBMinCompositionasaDistinguishedHonorsScholarfromthe UniversityofNorthTexasin2014.HethenearnedhisMMin2017fromThePeabodyConservatoryofThe JohnsHopkinsUniversity,whereupongraduation,hewasgiventhePBruceBlairAwardinCompositionby thefaculty.Histeachershaveincluded:KevinPuts,PanayiotisKokoras,JosephKlein,WilliamCoble,and AndrewMay.
Danielgraduatedin2024asadoctoralstudentandSageFellowatCornellUniversity,wherehestudied withKevinErnste,MarianthiPapalexandri-Alexandri,andRobertoSierraDanieliscurrentlyapostdoctoral fellowattheMaisondelaCréationetdel’InnovationofUniversitéGrenobleAlpesinFrance.
Forthepastfewyears,Ihavebeenfascinatedbythewebofconnectionsthatexistbetweenusandwhat wecreate.Inparticular,themyriadofinfluenceswetakeinthroughoutourlivesandhowtheseinfluences commingletomakeuswhoweareHowoneinfluenceinfluencesanotherandthechainthatformsinthese interactions:theleftoversofleftoversformingtheirownentity.
Residues,Iaminterestedinexploringthewaysthatsoundsandpracticesinfluenceseachother,notsimply asmimicry,butasthingswhichexistasthingsthemselves,relatedtotheirsources,butnotattemptingto bethoseseparateconstituentparts.
Inthisfirstworkintheset,thevoiceof20th–centurymastervocalistDelkash(ﺶﮑﻟد)takesthecentralrole exploredthroughtheguiseofthevocalityoftheclarinet.Thevehicleforthisexplorationistheclassic songĀtash-eKārevān(ناورﺎﮐﺶﺗآ)“CaravanFire”byoneofDelkash’sclosecollaborators,masterviolinist andcomposerAliTajvidi(یﺪﯾﻮﺠﺗﯽﻠﻋ) anostinatofromtheoriginaltunebecomestheanchorpoint.Tied intothisdualfocusonthetuneandDelkash’spowerfulvoice,isthevehicleforthesetwocomingtogether andourabilitytolistentoandrememberthesetwoartiststoday:themagnetictapeIremembermyfather listeningtothistapeSundaymornings,inallofitsnoisyandrichimperfection thepianoechoingthis memoryinawarmbedofnoise,aresonantdinoftinnybass(DanielRezaSabzghabaei)

Violinist Margaret Leenhouts is currently on the faculty of Nazareth University and a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. She earned a bachelor of arts magna cum laude in European History from Yale University and a doctorate in violin performance and literature with Charles Castleman at the Eastman School of Music. She performed in master classes with Josef Gingold, Henryk Szeryng, and Glenn Dicterow Additional musical studies included work at the Mannes College of Music and the Juilliard School with Dorothy DeLay A frequent performer, Dr Leenhouts has appeared regularly with Eastman faculty in the Kilbourn Hall recital series and returned to her native Arizona several times to give benefit concerts for the Sedona Chamber Music Society and the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra The recipient of the First Prize for Chamber Music at the American School of Arts in France, Dr Leenhouts appeared with Amadeus Trio members Marian Hahn and Jeffrey Solow and has performed chamber works at the British Arts Center of Yale, at the Eastern Festival of Music and in Eastman School of Music’s Virtuosi Series with RPO concertmaster Ilya Kaler In addition to her solo and chamber music work, Dr Leenhouts has been a member of the Honolulu Symphony, the Grand Rapids Symphony, and the Aspen Festival Orchestra. She toured throughout Germany with the American Sinfonietta.
Flutist Lana Stafford grew up in CNY and earned BM and MM degrees in flute performance as a Millonzi Distinguished Honors Arts Scholar and inaugural flute fellow at the University at Buffalo. In the 20232024 concert season, Lana played multiple performances with Society for New Music, the new Schola Cantorum of Syracuse instrumental ensemble and the Chelsea Opera, and a duo concert with pianist Sabine Krantz for Civic Morning Musicals Sundays Live! She maintains a flute studio at Pebble Hill Presbyterian in Dewitt and the Center for the Arts of Homer and works for the CNY Jazz Arts Foundation as social media manager At SNM, Lana works as social media manager, a concert program designer/ editor, email campaign manager and serves on the board Past roles include Weekend of Chamber Music Assistant Director (Jeffersonville, NY, 2023), Symphoria Youth Orchestras Manager (2018-2020) and University at Buffalo Summer Strings Workshop Assistant (2010-2014) Lana was awarded full scholarships for performing arts and academics to Manlius Pebble Hill School and University at Buffalo, where she took first place in the university concerto competition as a sophomore and went on to be Flute Teaching Assistant as a graduate student She has performed extensively in central and western NY and beyond, including the University of Maryland Baltimore County, an immersive theatre tour of historic mansions with Breadcrumbs Productions and Staten Island Arts LUMEN Festival with choreographer Laura Neese. In 2010-2012, she commissioned and premiered three works for flute and percussion with percussionist Shelly Purdy.
Sar-Shalom Strong is known as a pianist with the versatility to jump between styles and genres. For over 35 years, he has worked with the fine musicians and international artists who live in or visit upstate New York. He has performed concerti and orchestral keyboard with the Utica Symphony, Hamilton College Orchestra, and Symphoria, and frequently appears on concert series throughout Central NY and the northeast In CNY, he performs most frequently with The Society for New Music and has premiered many works with them Mr Strong is Lecturer in Piano and Coordinator of Staff Pianists and Piano Maintenance for Hamilton College, where he has been since 2001 He also teaches privately and regularly coaches and collaborates with aspiring young musicians, many of whom go on to professional careers in music He is Co-Chair of the Junior B-Sharp Musical Club and serves on the board of several CNY Arts organizations His recordings, including eight with Ronald Caravan, can be found on Mark Recordings and Naxos online; those with the Society for New Music on Innova Records Recent honors include an award from Society for New Music for his overall contribution to musical life in CNY, and a Top Teacher Award for 2022 from Steinway and Sons Pianos In October 2023, Sar was inducted into the Steinway Teacher Hall of Fame during a special ceremony at the factory.
Andrea Scheibel holds a Bachelors of Music in Percussion Performance, with teacher’s certification, from the University of Iowa She was trained in orchestral, jazz, and world percussion She is the principal percussionist in the Onondaga Civic Symphony Orchestra and was chosen as the featured soloist for their Fall 2021 concert, performing two xylophone rags with orchestral accompaniment She is an active member of the Society for New Music in Syracuse, serving on the Executive Board as Secretary She has played percussion in a variety of local contexts, including the following: Pushed Aside: Reclaiming Gage (2019), an opera about women ’ s suffragist and Central New York native Matilda Gage; the premiere of Diane Jones’s score accompanying the silent film The Doll (1919) at the Palace Theatre in 2019; a percussion trio that performed Olivia Kieffer’s Play the Robot for its East Coast premiere in February 2020, and the premiere of Erin O’Hara’s score accompanying the silent film Pandora’s Box (2022) at LeMoyne College Performing Arts Center. She is also a member of the new music ensemble created by composer Chris Cresswell: 315 Ensemble. Based at Onondaga Community College, she works as the music technical specialist and manages the Music Resource Center, where she created a new music library website and corresponding library catalog for OCC’s Department of Art,Communication, Media, & Music.
