IB CREDIT WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE? Navigating the college admissions process is tough. Let William Woods University make it a bit easier by explaining the differences between the types of credit that you can transfer to our institution.

AP classes are college-level classes also taught at your high school, to prepare you for AP tests, which you take at the end of the school year to earn college credit and/or “advanced placement” (hence, “AP”). Advanced Placement Exams are administered primarily in the high schools. They are usually culminating exams for high school students enrolled in honors courses.

The AP exam has two parts: a multiple-choice section and an essay portion that will be added together to determine your score on a scale of 1 to 5. Students must score a 3, 4, or 5 on the exam to receive college-level credit. There is a $75 per hour charge for transcripting AP credit.

When you are completely finish with your AP course and you have taken the AP exam, you will need to have your official scores submitted to the William Woods University Registrar office. To do so, you will need to access the College Board website at:

If you have never logged in before, you will need to do so, (the website will walk you through this process). Find and click on the button that reads, “send your scores now” and find William Woods University (our submission number is: 002525). A dual credit class is also a college-level class given at a high school, but it counts for both college and high school credit. It is offered at your high school through a higher-education institution. In some cases, high school students may also take dual credit in the form of an online course or even at a junior college location. Unlike in AP classes, you don’t need to take an exam at the end of the year to gain college credit.

If you took a dual credit course in high school, you paid a higher-education institution (either a community college, four-year college or university) for that course.

William Woods University accepts dual credit much like transfer credit.

When you are completely finished with your dual credit course, and you have your final grade, you must contact the higher-education institution though which you are receiving said credit and formally request an “official” transcript be submitted to the William Woods University office of the Registrar. In most cases, you will request your official transcript on the institution’s website.

The International Baccalaureate is a rigorous program offered in approximately only 400 participating schools. It is designed as a comprehensive curriculum for university—bound students who engage in a study of language, science, math and humanities in the final two years of their secondary school.

At the conclusion of their high school career, students take the IB examination. There is a $75 per hour charge for transcripting IB credit. Much like AP credit, your IB results or “transcript” of scores must be sent to William Woods University. To do so, you will need to access the IB website at:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1.

My Dual Credit grade/AP course grade is on my High School transcript, do I still have to contact the institution/college board website to request my official transcript/scores be sent to WWU? You still have to contact the institution (for your dual credit) and/or the college board website (for AP scores) /IB website (for IB scores) and request the official transcript/ scores be sent to William Woods University.

Since my official transcripts won’t be ready until I finish the class, how do I avoid being registered for a class in which I’m receiving Dual Credit/AP Credit/IB Credit?

Once you pay your deposit at WWU, your admissions representative should send you the Dual Credit Survey which will ask you if you are planning on transferring any Dual/ AP/IB credit. Navigate to https:quicklaunch.williamwoods.edu. Sign in with your WWU username and password. Once you are signed into Quicklaunch, scroll down to Student Forms. Choose the Dual Credit, AP, and IB Exam Form from the bottom of the list, under General Forms. When can I register for classes?

Incoming freshmen can register for their Fall courses sometime during the end of March.

If My Math or English ACT/SAT sub score is below the benchmark, do I HAVE to take the developmental course?

Yes, and we usually recommend that you take any developmental courses during Freshman Advantage (if you decide to attend), or your first semester at WWU. If you feel you have been improperly placed in mathematics, your only alternative is to take a math placement assessment. These are ONLY offered during Woods 101 and it will be YOUR responsibility to let your Admissions representative know it is your wish to take the exam.
