ETIQUESTIONS

Dr. Barbara Baggerly-Hinojosa

I am the leader of a small team, and I want to motivate the team to continue working so that we can make 2021 a better year. What are some virtual activities you recommend?

Virtual and remote working is probably here to stay, so it is a great idea for leaders to begin considering ways in which they can build the team in a virtual environment. Consider scheduling regular virtual team coffee sessions where everyone on the team grabs a cup of coffee and logs in to meet with everyone else. You can facilitate the gathering by asking prompting questions that get people to share experiences and get to know each other better. Additionally, there are many companies offering virtual teambuilding, so check out some of them to see if you find a good match for your team.

It is Black History Month, and I would like to celebrate with my friends at work. What are some ideas?

The NAACP has created a list of creative ways to celebrate Black History Month. Additionally, the NAACP has put together a list of activities for each day of the month. Check out the resource and share with your friends.

I really miss my friends! What are some ways I can socialize safely during this pandemic?

The pandemic has forced us all to rethink how we socialize. You may try scheduling one-on-one video calls with friends with the purpose of catching up. You can also try scheduling time to play online games or do virtual activities with your family and friends. Finally, always evaluate the risk of any in-person activities and make sure to follow the latest guidance from CDC.
