PERSONAL PROTECTION FOR THE MOST VULNERABLE
Since March 2020, the foundation recognized the necessity to be more flexible than ever before as unmet needs arose throughout our communities, especially among those most vulnerable to COVID-19 and its effects. Our close connection with our sister ministries within the health system, including those serving older populations and individuals experiencing homelessness, revealed a clear need for masking supplies that could be worn by all individuals.

SOCF Cleveland purchased more than 30,000 masks, enough for an emergency supply for staff and clients at Joseph’s Home, Light of Hearts Villa, St. Vincent Charity Medical Center and all congregation members of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine.
Through the work of program officers, SOCF Cleveland also distributed masks among those populations who could not access resources, like partners and residents in the Central neighborhood who had to remain isolated at home. Several thousand went to the Cuyahoga County Office of Homeless Services for their frontline staff.
SOCF Cleveland offers special thanks to David Breen of the National Bias Fabric Company, Cleveland, who assisted the foundation with mask distribution. With his partnership, we were able to store and distribute essential materials to several partner organizations and ministries.
Additional support for the masks has come from the board of directors at SOCF Cleveland, who donated funds toward the purchase of another several thousand masks to respond to unmet needs in the community.
