SOAR PREMIER PROPERTY - CEDAR WINDS FARMHOUSE

Cedar Winds Farmhouse was selected as SOAR's Premier Property for the Debut Issue. This stunning luxury Columbia, TN farm house actually went under contract within just 24 hours of the magazine being published. We hope you will enjoy reading about the rich history of the property and the many stories shared within the article feature. SOAR would like to thank The Grgic family for allowing us to interview them and share this piece of heaven with our publication.
Before Cedar Winds Farm was ever thought of, the land belonged to James K. Polk’s grandfather. In that time, it was common for prominent men to be granted large areas of land in order to settle and bring an economy to the area. So in this spirit of progress and ambition, Columbia was born.

Cedar Winds Farmhouse - Sellers Mirko & Angela Grgic
Dubbed the Mule Capital of the world, to this day the anual “Mule Day Parade” is held in Columbia and draws thousands to celebrate our history and Americana traditions.” Even before the Civil War, Columbia was known as the ‘Go To Place’ for anything agricultural. On this land where my house sits, used to grow peaches and cotton. During the war, Yankee soldiers traveled from Nashville to Columbia, to the land now known as Cedar Winds Farm and ended up tearing up some bales of cotton and taking naps, possibly in my front yard. From the moment I arrived, this home has been a place of peace and solace, so learning this was no surprise.
I call it Cedar Winds Farmhouse because the original Cedar Winds Farm is behind our property. In the late 1800’s, the Foreman of Cedar Winds purchased a few acres to have a “close by place” to raise his family. Each beam, wood plank floor, and bead-board wall was milled from trees cut down on this very plot of land.
Last year I put a Christmas tree on our back deck area and we sang Christmas carols around the tree at the top of our lungs surrounded by all of our friends. On our first year here, we invited family over for our traditional get together and to start a new tradition. We decided a different (and silly) competition every year would be the right fit, so we bought stake flags and placed them in the ground in the yard in the form of an obstacle course. We led our families out to the back yard and let them study the route before racing our lawn mower around the flags, under trees, and across the finish line. While my dad didn’t have the fastest time, his wheelie was award winning. The next year was a fire building competition and I’m proud to say the house was not harmed.
The living room and kitchen were built on as an addition to the original 4 Square Farmhouse by the previous owners. There is a wood burning fireplace and in effort to mimic the original style and nature of the home, they added tongue and groove bead board to the ceiling and the bathroom wall to tie it all in. It’s new with an old world charm and perfectly fits the style of the original home. It is all the luxuries you would want of a modern home while being respectful to what this home actually is.

The Cedar Winds Farm IS a registered historic property but our property is not. My favorite thing about sleeping in this master bedroom is the serenity and how quiet it is. It feels safe. This home is peaceful and yet still a 5 minute drive to Target. If you walk down into the pasture there is a fire pit and a garden area with a charming white fence where we grow cucumbers, tomatoes, blackberries, cantaloupes, potatoes, and more bell peppers than we could ever consume. The barn is equipped with water, electricity, and a wood burning stove, but my husband’s favorite part is the wooden covered deck on the back of the barn that feels so serene and full of beauty.

BRING YOUR HORSES! (or livestock) The barn is truly a barn. It is horse ready. You could easily add stalls in the barn if you choose to make this home your own.
