2014 SHAWNEE BEAUTIFICATION AWARDS
Mayor presents certificates to winners Shawnee Mayor Wes Mainord recently presented certificates to the winners of the 2014 Shawnee Beautification awards. They have divided their awards into two parts, the first being the Spring and secondly the Fall awards. There were two business awards presented. The first was La Quinta Hotel and it was presented to Christine Clements, the General Manager. The second business award went to Cracker Barrel Restaurant, Brian Rouk, General Manager. The individual residential yard award went to Louella and Allen Hurst. Their well-kept property is on Harrison Street.
The Church award was given to St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. Annual flowers grace the church’s property along with crape myrtles and cannas. To enter submit a photograph of your garden or yard, or front planters for judging between Aug. 1 and Oct. 1, 2014. All photographs become the property of the City of Shawnee Beautification Committee and will not be returned. People may also submit a high resolution digital photo to: w.peace@ shawneeok.org. Gardens/yards will not be eligible for judging unless a photograph is submitted.

Winners will be recognized at a December meeting of the Shawnee City Commission and certificates awarded by Mayor Mainord. The Beautification Committee is accepting donations to be used as gifts to the winners in any of the categories. The members of the City Beautification Committee are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City
Commission. The city beautification committee meets on the second Thursday of the month at City Hall at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend any meeting or to find out more information about these awards. Clean, beautiful visual landscaping and good maintenance is a way to display civic pride.
