Teaching and Learning Framework Foreword As educators, our purpose is to awaken and nurture our learners’ self-belief, self-worth and sense of wonder and curiosity. We aspire to deliver world-class educational experiences that meet the needs of our learners and the educational demands of an ever-changing world. The SMGS Teaching and Learning Framework is drawn from researching and evaluating the best global educational practices, infused with our own tailored approach, that complement our context and the educational needs of our local and global community. The Teaching and Learning Framework represents what we believe to be the most powerful approach to achieving the realisation of true inspirational learning. Our Teaching and Learning Framework is purposefully designed with three interrelated structural layers to provide our teachers with clear direction on achieving our shared goal. Elevations represent the six key Waypoints are markers that Pathways help our teachers aspects of our Framework that guide our teachers to reach their navigate their way to each support and lead our teachers to potential within each Elevation. Extend and Inspire Learning is the ability to empower our students to ignite their curiosity and their critical and creative thinking to develop and deepen their understanding. The curriculum is used as the vehicle to drive the exploration of how we learn. Deep learning is achieved when students are provided with opportunities to find relevance in their learning and are afforded time and space to critically analyse concepts and apply new knowledge. Our teachers challenge, stretch and build expertise in all of our students across a diverse range of subject areas by promoting high expectations, fostering curiosity and agile thinking and instilling an openness to new learning. Our teachers promote a culture of collaboration through intentionally designing experiences that enable students to justify their thinking and contribute to the intellectual life of the class.
